Amelia News Mr. and Mrs. Richard Bergen and children, who have been visiting her parents, Rev. and Mrs. Albert Luginsland, return ed to their home at Ponca City, Okla., home on Monday, July 5. Rev. Albert Luginsland and son, Kenneth went to Omaha Tuesday, July 6. Harry White ac companied them as far as West Point and spent the day visiting Mr and Mrs. Mike Philben. C. E. Remington o f Sedro Wooley. Wash., and his neice, Mrs. Lilac Lewis of Grand Island were visiting old friends in Amelia and vicinity Tuesday and Wednesday, July 6 and 7. The Remingtons are former residents ef the Amelia community. Mrs. Remington died one year ago. Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Widman and family left Tuesday morning for a visit with an aunt in Gor don before returning to their home at Ferndale, Wash., Miss Joan Adair, who has been visiting her mother, Mrs. Gertie Adair, and other relatives the past three weeks, returned to Byran Memorial hospital at Lin coln Sunday where she will com plete her nurses’s training. Mr. and Mrs. Bert Laney of Wausau, Wise., were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Johnston the past week. Mr. Leney and Mr. Johnston were school chums. Miss Zoellyn Gilman spent the weekend with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Gilman. Zoe has been employed at Burlington. Ia. She returned to Burlington Sun day. Miss RaeDee Wickham, who has been visiting her grandpar ents, accompanied her to her home at Omaha. Mrs Edith Anderson, Mr. and Mrs. Ernie Johnston and Mrs. Julia White were Sunday dinner guests at Ed White’s. Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Coolidge and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Cool idge and Kenneth were Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Glee Grimes near Chambers. Mr. and Mrs. Gale Fix and fam-, ily of Scottsbluffs came Monday to help his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fix, during haying. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Fullerton and daughters, Joan and Beth, and Mrs. Art Doolittle were in Omaha last week. They visited last Thursday night with Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Tesch and family at Columbus. Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Dultez and Gaylen called on Mrs. Edith Anderson Sunday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Wade Davis and family and Mr. and Mrs. L. H. Burgett and family visited the W. E. Ragland family near Sun day. Julie Rees, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bob Rees, celebrated her eighth birthday anniversary Sunday, July 11, Grandma Rees baked and decorated a cake for her. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Coolidge and Kenneth returned from Colorado where Charles had been working. Due to a back ailment, he was unable to work for awhile. They expect to return to Colo rado later. Mr. and Mrs. Hank Slightan and four children of Auburn, Wash., visited Mrs. Oscar Peter son and Maxine several days last week. They had been visit ing her parents in Minnesota. Mr. Slightan and Dunk worked together at Bowring air base at one time. Miana Lou White, O’Neill, July Bride Miss Miana Lou White, daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis A. White of O’Neill, and Albin Ken neth Hubenka, son of Mrs. Elsie Hubenka of Omaha and Dr. A. H. Hubenka of San Diego, Calif., were united in marriage Monday, July 12, at the Augustana Luth eran church in Omaha. Rev. F. H. Hanson of Omaha performed the 3 o’clock afternoon rite. The bride, given in marriage by her father, chose a ballerina length gown of lace and nylon net over taffeta. Her silk illusion fingertip veil fell from a tiara of seed pearls. She carried a cas cade bouquet of Johanna roses. The maid-of-honor, Miss Mere dith Gottula of Omaha, and the bridal attendant, Mrs. Louis Fi done of Council Bluffs, la., were gowned in ballerina - length gowns of orchid and spring green nylon net, respectively. They carried colonial bouquets of yel low and pink carnations to con trast with their dresses. The flowergirls were the Miss es Joanne and Diane Fidone of Council Bluffs, la. Lewis E. White of Omaha was the bestman. Ushers were Louis Fidone and Engene Hubenka. Following the wedding, a re ception was held at the home of the bridegroom’s mother. Can delabra and the bridal cake dec orated the bride’s table. Mrs. Hubenka graduated from Technical high school in Omaha and attended the University of Omaha. Mr. Hubenka is a grad uate of South high school, Oma ha, and is employed by the Lew White Motor Co. in O’Neill. Fol lowing a wedding trip through southern California and Mexico the couple will live in O’Neill. BACK FROM KOREA Cpl. Floyd K. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Cunning ham of Fremont came Friday for a few days visit with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy Cunning ham, at Page and with her rela tives. Mrs. Carl Matschullat and two children of Springfield, O., and her father, J. C. Havel, spent from Tuesday, July 6, until Thurs day, July 8, visiting Mr. and Mrs. Otto Matschullat and the Dale Matschullat homes. The Golden Rule extension club members held a picnic for the families at the Page park Sunday evening. All members were represented. Mr. and Mr. Harold Kelly and daughters, Marlen, Karen Kay and Peggy Sue, departed Monday for Los Angeles, Calif., where they will visit at the homes of Mr. Kelly’s sister, Mr. and Mrs. W. C- Hightower, and his bro ther, Mr and Mrs. William Kelly. They plan to be gone for two weeks. Afternoon callers were Ed Carsen, Mrs. Mary Wolf and Mrs. Dora Townsend. Mr. and Mrs. Lem Webb and son of Mitchell came Sunday to visit Mrs. Webb’s parents Mr. and Mrs. Anton Nissen and other relative. Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Roach and Larry and Mrs. Warren Cronk and Joan returned home Sunday from a vacation trip of over two weeks to California, Oregon and other states. They visited Mrs. Boach’s sister, Mr. and Mrs. Hut fless at Healsburg, Calif., and a niece, Marilyn Rechstatter, at Cloverdale, Calif., Mr. Roach’s brother, John Roach, and fam ily at Portland, Ore., also friends at Gold Hill, Ore., and Laramie, Wyo. Mrs. Elsie Ballantyne ana raye Irene returned home Saturday after being away for a week. They first went to Lincoln and from there accomponied Jimmie Ball antyne to Independence, Mo., where they visited at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Sinclair. Mrs. Sinclair is the former Carl otta Ballantyne. They were join ed there by Mr. and Mrs. Robert Ballantyne and family of Kansas, City, Mo., Mr. and Mrs. Roy Ball-; antyne of Wauchula, Flor., and Morris Ballantyne of Chicago and all enjoyed their meeting there. Nineteen members of the Page Amrican Legion auxiliary met at the Legion hall Monday even ing for a regular meeting that was presided by the president, Mrs. Milo Landrith. hostesses were Mrs. Ed Stewart and Mrs. Dale Matschullat. Door prize was won by Mrs. Floyd Frahm Mrs. George Wettlaufer the prize by holding the lucky number for the money put in the Flag fund. Mr. and Mrs. William Neubau er and Mrs. Neven Ickes, sr., drove to Norfolk Sunday where they attended the services at the Methodist church. Mr. and Mrs. Neubauer were dinner and sup per guests of Mrs. Carrie Taylor and daughters. Mrs. Ickes visited Mrs. Emma Dorr and also called on Mrs. Sue Clark. Mrs. Anna Tegeler accompanied them as far as Tilden and will spend a week with relatives there and at Battle Creek. Mr. and Mrs. James Stevens and daughter and his mother, Mrs. Mary Stevens, came Sunday to visit Mrs. Eva Cunningham and other relatives. On Tuesday accompanied by Mrs. Cunning ham they left for Eugene, Ore., where they will visit with Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Ames. Mrs. Ames is a sister of Mrs. Cunning ham and a sister-in-law of Mrs. Mary Stevens. They plan to be gone about three weeks. Best Things About Dad Listed in Roll call— A monthly meeting of the Eagle Creek 4-H club took place at the Frances and Vincent Ernst home on Sunday, Julyll. In spite of the terrific heat, all club members except one answered roll call. Roll call response was telling what you liked best about your father. It was discussed what to do for the program at the old settler’s picnic. Vincent Ernst demonstrated the correct way to wash the hands. The next meeting will be with Peggy and Helen Rakes on Aug ust 8' Anything that is to be tak en to achievement day is to be brought to this meeting. —By Betty Curran, news reporter. Returns to Missouri— Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Young drove his sister, Mrs. Walter Huston, to Eskridge, Kans., Wed nesday, July 7, where she was met by her husband, who drove there from Kansas City, Mo., to meet her. The Young’s visited at the home of Harold Young in Eskridge until Sunday. Boy, 8, Saves Self from Possible Bums PAGE — An 8-year-old boy near Page showed unusual presence of mind and saved himself from possible serious burns late last week. Randy Stauffer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Stauffer, was curious as to what would hap pen if he tossed a lighted match into a can of tractor fuel. He found out. The resulting explosion set fire to his clothing, but the boy quickly rolled in loose dirt and doused the flames. He was not seriously hurt. His curiosity is satisfied, too. Wedding Details Told in Roll Response— CHAMBERS — The Lutheran Ladies Aid met in the church basement Thursday afternoon, July 8. This was a LWML meet ing. Sixteen members answered roll call by naming the date of their wedding anniversary, col or of wedding dress and where they were married. The pastor, William Roth, op ened the meeting by reading the 24th Psalm and led a topic dis cussion on inspiration and ob servance of the Bible. The president, Mrs. William Jutte, had charge of the business meeting. The project for next month was discussed. The purchasing committee bought some paper cups to be put in the kitchen. The meeting closed with the Lord’s prayer. A lunch was served by Mrs. L. Peterson and Mrs. William Rieck. O’Neill News Miss Pauline Paul of Toledo,' O., arrived Monday and will vis it until next Monday at the homes of Mrs. Tess Murray, An drew Wettlaufer and Mrs. John Schmidt and family. T/Sgt. Charles E. Worth ar rived in O’Neill last Thursday to spend a 30-day leave visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Worth, and other relatives and friends. f Miss Claudia Wildes left Mon day, July 5, to visit for several weeks with Mr. and Mrs. Edward Belzer in Norfolk. Mr. and Mrs. Edward Schmit and family visited his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Schmit, in Nenzel over the weekend. Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Hemel strad and family returned to Denver, Colo., Friday after vis iting relatives and friends in O’ Neill for a week Mrs. John Dal ton returned with them and will visit there with her son-in-law ajid daughter for several weeks. Mr. and Mrs. Martin J. Walter and Mrs. Ray Bartos spent the weekend in Lincoln visiting Mrs. Ethel Willm. Miss Rosemarie Walter, who had been visiting her grandmother for six weeks, returned to O’Neill with her par ents. Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Johnson and family of Lincoln visited their parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Van Every and Mr. and Mrs. Victor C. Johnson, from last Thursday until Monday. George Fuller returned to Lin coln with them and will visit them for a week. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Benash and family and Mrs. Clarence Benish of Beatrice are visiting friends in O’Neill. Dinner guests Sunday at the Russell Yusten home were Albert Giedd, and C. Giedd of Wagner, S. D. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Farr and son, Mrs. Lloyd Johnson and family and Mr. and Mrs. Carl Schenzel were Friday evening guests of Mr. and Mrs. Russell Yusten. Mr. and Mrs. Donald Brehm and Elizabeth Claire of Minn eapolis, Minn., left Tuesday for Watertown, S. D., where they will visit Mr. Brehm’s parents. They have been visiting Mrs. Summer Downey and Mr. and Mrs. William Artus in O’Neill for the past 10 days. Mrs. Brehm is the former Leah Claire Iler.. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Rushton of Chicago. 111., visited from Satur day until Monday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. A. Neil Dawes. Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Clyde were Mr. and Mrs. Frank Follette, Miss Fay Timm and Mrs. Hazel Timm, all of Nor folk. Wild Flowers Gathered During Field Trip— The Beautiful Valley Sprout ers met with Jim and Denny Doolittle on Tuesday afternoon, June 22. Twelve members an swered roll call. A field trip was taken to gath er wild flowers, which will be pressed, identified and placed in their scrapbooks by members. Lunch was served by the host ess. On the way home we stopped at Mrs. C. V. Robertson’s and studied her flowers. She gave each one two named varieties of iris. Our next meeting was to be with Karon, Mary and Gay Far rier July 13.—By club reporter. Miss Ina Bennett went to Lin coln Saturday where she will join Ruth Ann Groski and Mrs. Josephine Waples on a vacation trip to the Ozarks. Miss Bennett is from Ewing.
