Cutworm Damage
to Com Reported
Numerous calls have been re
ceived at the Holt county agent’s
office relative to spraying for
cutworms.
County Agent A. Neil Dawes
states that cutworms may be
poisoned or sprayed. However,
spraying may not always be as
effective as poison baits, but
spraying with some of the newer !
chemicals such as dieldrin ald
rin, toxaphene, clordance and
DDT.
Extension circular 1504 gives
directions for spraying and bait
ing. It is available by writing or
contacting the county extension
service in O’Neill.
Com that has been replanted
should be sprayed. If you use
toxaphene apply one gallon of
60 percent to three acres. If using
aldrin use one gallon to four
acres. Spray directed down the
rows may be more effective than
a general broadcast spray.
Overnight Guests—
Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Butter- }
field and daughter of Winner,
S.D., were Sunday overnight
guests of Mr. and Mrs. Elden
