AMELIA—Merschon Lierman,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Claude
Lierman, will submit to an op
eration at the Emanuel hospital
in Omaha Friday, June 11. . . Ir
ven Forbes'met with a painful
accident last week. A board he
was using in prying broke. It
struck him on the face. His
cheek bone was broken and a
big vein injured which caused
a severe hemorrhage. Mrs.
Forbes took him to Omaha for
treatment. . . Ralph Barnes re
ceived a deep cut on his foot
Sunday while mowing the lawn
with a power mower. Twelve
stitches were required to close
cne of the cuts.
CHAMBERS — Rose Marie
Gibson returned on Wednesday,
June 2, from Rochester, Minn.,
where she had undergone major
surgery on her back. . . Ed Har
vey returned Saturday from St.
Anthony’s hospital in O’Neill. . .
Mrs. Lois Adams returned Sat
urday to the home of her son
in-law and daughter, Mr. and
Mrs. G- H. Grimes, after spend
ing a few weeks in St. Anthony’s
hospital.
INMAN — Harry Moore and
daughter, Dotty, Miss Elsie
Krueger and Mrs. Kenneth Cov
entry and Bob spent last Thurs
day in Sioux City, where they
visited Mrs. Harry Moore, a hos
pital patient. Bob had X-rays
taken of his recent shoulder
fracture.

Henry Trennepohl is a patient in
the Neligh hospital following a
severe stroke.
CELIA — Paul Focken broke
his left wrist while playing last

PAGE—Members of the Page
Improvement club enjoyed a
breakfast at the park Monday
morning. Mrs. Otto Matschullat,
president, called the meeting to
order. Busmess matters of the
past year were completed.
The new officers were install
ed: Mrs. C. E. Walker, president;
Mrs. Melvm Held, vice-presi
dent; Mrs. Melvin Smith, secre
tary, and Mrs. Melvin Roach,
treasurer. They were installed
by Mrs. Harry Harper. Each of
ficer was presented a corsage.
The new officers took care of
new business and the meeting
closed.
Following are some of the pro
jects the members of the Page
Improvement club had charge of
during the past year — doing
much work for the city of Page,
including having gone to a great
deal of expense for material and
the hiring of help.
Repairing playground equip
ment, having the trees trimmed
in the park mowing of the park
lor the season, painting the front
of the theater and the name of
the theater. The ladies served
dinner to the O’Neill Saddle
club community day, sponsored
the parade and served1 lunches
m the Legion hall during the
day and evening. They took
charge of selling tickets and
popcorn at the theater for a few
weeks to help the business men.
They served lunch at a school
for a machinery show sponsored
by Carl Max. They cleaned and
painted the interior of the the
ater and furnished new curtains
for same. They served supper for
the alumni banquet, sponsored
the polio drive, bought new
lights for the theater, had the
water fountain at the bank cor
ner repaired and had the fire
places in the park rebuilt.
Mrs. C. A. Townsend donated
a picnic table for the park.

EWING — The 23rd annual
Cary, reunion was held Saturday,
June 5, at the Lionel Gunter
home near Ewing. After the pic
nic dinner some of the young
folks went fishing; others visit
ed.
Philip Lee, acting chairman,
conducted the business meeting.
Miss Lela Cary, secretary, read
the minutes. Roll call was taken
by Florence Van Ostrand. The
record shows 293 enrolled.
During the past year there
have been three marriages—Zoe
Hiner to George Mattson, Sep
tember 4; Alice Hensman to
Kenneth Schneider, March 14;
James Pogue to Joan Hartman,
April 16. Meanwhile, there have
been nine births — Bernard Eric
to Fred and Marilyn Vanosdall,
February 1; Douglas Dale to Es
tel and Arlene Cary, July 31;
Debra Lynn to Myrle and Carl
ene Proctor, October 22; Samuel
Gene to Wayne and Ethel Lee,

Woodrow Melena presented a
c'ance recital Friday night „ at
the O’Neill public school audito
rium — more than 50 dancers
participating. The affair was
sponsored by the Brownie troops
and proceeds went to their
treasury.
A highlight of the program
was a Negro minstrel dance (set'
photo above). Another feature
was a ballet-like dance by a
group of eight.
George Hammond was master
of - ceremonies; Miss K o n n i e
Kurtz and Mrs. Marvin Johnson
were pianists.
Mrs. Melena, a professional
tap dancer before her marriage,
has been conducting classes for
two years.

EWING—Mrs. William Wulf
accompanied her daughter, Mrs.
Mark Maben of Clearwater, to
Spalding on Friday where they
attended a pink-and-blue shower
honoring Mrs. Maben’s daughter
in-law, Mrs. William Maben.
