Devotions were led by Grace Gannon, fol lowed by the business meeting in charge of the spring chairman, Ethel Tompkins. The living room in parsonage has been newly-papered and Mr. and Mrs. Vaden Kivett have moved in. After the business meeting, a birthday lunch was served by Elsie Krueger and Gertrude Youngs. The birthdays of mem bers falling in March, April and May were honored and they seated at the birthday table, which was decorated with paper mats, placecards and flowers. Five new members joined the society—Mrs. Roy David and Arthur Tomlinson. Mrs. Grover Shaw will depart Sunday for Cowley, Wyo., to visit her husband and son, Ralph, and the latter’s family for the ensuing three weeks. Carter were entertained at an 8 o'clock breakfast Wednesday morning, May 12, by the Wo men’s Society of Christian Ser vice at the parlors of the Ewing Methodist church. The class colors red and silver were 'caried out in the table dec oration with house plants in blossom. The centerpiece was a graduate and a globe ci the world. Members of the Society in charge were Mrs. R. G. Rockey, Mrs. Ralph Eacker. Mrs. J. L. Pruden and Mrs. Sis Ebben gaard. Sick & injured PAGE—Mr. and Mrs. Roy Da vis and son of Omahcf spent Sat urday night at the home of her brother, Harry Davis, and fam ily. On their return home Sun day they went to Sioux City to visit his mother, Mrs. Mabel Da vis, who is a patient in the Meth odist hospital there. Mrs. Dsvis had spent the week in the hos pital following surgery. She planned to leave the hospital Monday and will stay at the Melvin Lamason home in the city. . . Edd Stewart drove to Sioux City Saturday to bring his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clar ence Stewart, to their home here. Mr. Stewart had been a patient in the Methodist hospi tal there. . . Miss Ruth Parks entered St. Anthony’s hospital at O’Neill Sunday for surgery. . . . Mrs. Joe Noble from north of Page suffered a stroke and was taken to St. Anthony’s hos pital Sunday. . . Bonnie Jo Rie ge, who had been a patient in St. Anthony’s hospital in O’Neill, being treated for a throat infec tion, returned to her home on Tuesday. O’NEILL—C. J. Gatz submit ted to surgery Saturday at Ro chester, Minn. . . Tim Gilligan returned to school Monday after having been absent 10 days be cause of mumps. . . A/lc Duane Cavanaugh and Mrs. Richard Perry and family went to Oma ha last Thursday where they visited Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Cavanaugh, sr., patients in the University hospital there. Mrs. Cavanaugh had undergone sur gery. She returned to O’Neill Saturday. Sunday, Richard Per ry went to Omaha to be with Mr. Cavanaugh, who underwent surgery at the University hospi tal Monday. . . Sunday, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph McElvain and John Lee and Mrs. Ted Platt of Chambers visited Mrs. Zada Russ at Our Lady of Lourdes hospital in Norfolk. CHAMBERS—Gleason Grimes returned Friday from St. Jo seph’s hospital in Sioux City where he had undergone treat ment. . . Mrs. LeRoy Holcomb was taken to St. Anthony’s hos pital in O’Neill Wednesday, May 12, following an accident in which she was thrown from a trailer. . . Mr. and Mrs. Duane McKay left for Omaha Sunday where she will consult a skin specialist. . . Mrs. Lois Adams was taken to St. Anthony’s hos pital Sunday for medical care. . . . Mrs. William Turner took her mother, Mrs. H. W. Tomlin son of O’Neill, to Lynch Sunday to consult a doctor. . . Rose Ma rie Gibson of Chambers submit ted to a major operation at the Methodist hospital in Rochester, Minn., Friday. Her father, Jim Gibson, is with her. AMELIA — Edward Coolidge was to be brought to the home of his parents, Mr. and Mi's. Ray Coolidge, from the O’Neill hos pital last week. Edward has been suffering with broken bones in his foot. He has been working for Tim Reed near Chambers j where the accident occurred. . . I L. C. Forbes of Atkinson, father of Irven and Alvin Forbes of Amelia, has been a patient in the Veterans hospital at Grand Island for several weeks. He was to submit to surgery this week. . . . Harold Fullerton was able to return home Tuesday from the Methodist hospital at Oma ha. He had submitted to a back operation. Blood clots developed and he was confined to the hos pital about five weeks. RIVERSIDE — Jackie Mosel underwent an appendectomy at the Memorial hospital in Neligh Tuesday morning, May 18. . . Rev. William Bomer and Mrs. Lionel Gunter visited Mrs. Nel iie Conner in the hospital at Ne ligh Friday. . . Mr. and Mrs. Bert Fink visiteu the Russell Fink family in Fremont over the weekend. Beverty Perry had her left ankle sprained and bruised. She caught her foot in a bicycle wheel last Thursday evening and had to be taken to a doctor for an X-ray and treatment. DELOIT — Royvan Day has been ill with mumps. . . Danny, small son of Mr. and Mrs. Ron nie Hemenway, received a seri ous cut across his nose and face i.i play. Several stitches were required to close the wound. The stitches were removed on Fri day. CELIA—Mrs. Mark Hendricks had the misfortune to run her left arm into the wringer of,her washing machine Saturday to within two inches of her elbow. No bones were broken but her arm was badly bruised and swol len. O’NEILL—M. J. Wallace is in the hospital suffering from a heart ailment. He was taken to tne hospital by ambulance. . . . H. E. Asher entered St. An thony’s hospital Wednesday. Rhodes Home Scene of Family Reunion STUART—The home of Mr. j and Mrs. Roy Rhodes was the scene of a family reunion over the weekend when their children, Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Rhodes of Wichita, Kans., Mr. and Mrs. Don (Lila) Everingham and family of Idaho Falls, Ida., and Mr. and Mrs. Marvin (Donna) Foxworthy and son of Petersburg came for a | few days visit. Hamilton, 24, and Miss Marjorie Chaney, 18, both of Stuart, May 19. DOCTOR BENNETT HURT Dr. H. L. Bennett suffered a dislocated elbow early Sunday near Valentine. He had gone to a lake to fish, his car had be come mired in the sand, and he engaged two boys on a tractor to pull out the auto, the doctor riding on the hood of his own vehicle. The tractor lurched, Doctor Bennett was thrown to the ground. The tractor, making a sharp turn, ran over his arm. He is in St. Anthony’s hospital. Plan Kid Rodeo This Summer— The 4-H Fancy Ropers held the second meeting Saturday, May 15. Record books for this year were distributed and plans were made and dates set for sub sequent meetings. Later, we discussed plans for a kid s rodeo to help raise money for the new 4-H building in Chambers. After the meeting was adjourned a lunch was served. FREE ON BOND Ronald Bazelman, 18, and Gay len Hull, 18, Monday were re leased from the Holt county jail when $2,000 bond was furnished for each. They are charged with grand larceny. County Attorney William W. Griffin said their cases would come for trial in the fall term of the dictrict court. Mrs. Shiexk Hostess — Mrs. Paul Shierk entertained at a 6:30 o’clock dinner at the M & M cafe Tuesday evening followed by bridge at her home. Mrs. Esther Harris had the high score, Mrs. Arlo Hiatt had the evening’s low score and Mrs. H. S. Moses won the all-cut. Bridge Club Meets — The Bridge club was enter tained by Mrs. Verne Reynold son Tuesday evening. Preceding bridge at her home, the group had dinner at the Town House. Prizes were won by Mrs. Win nie Barger and Mrs. A. W. Car roll. CELIA NEWS Mrs. D. F. Scott attended a noon luncheon meeting of the Iris club Friday. Miss Dorene Tangeman came from Colorado recently to spend a week visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Tangeman, and Lawrence. Mr. and Mrs. Hi Conery, who have been on a trip to California and Colorado, spent the weekend in Chambers. They returned to Montrose, Colo., Monday. Mrs. John Nachtman left Sun day for Sioux City and on to Odebolt, la., where she will spend a week visiting her sister, Mrs. N. Bower. Mrs. R. V. Bishop and baby of Grand Ieland came Sunday to spend a week with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Leon Hertel.
