engagement of their daughter.
Miss Shirley Joan (above), to
Edgar Leslie Bailey, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Bailey of
Bonesteel, S.D. Miss Clinton is
employed at the Becker drug
store in Spencer. Mr. Bailey,
who is with the seabees, is now
stationed at Cubi Point, Phil
ippine Islands. They plan to
be married when he returns
to the United States.

for Young Flannigan
Stuart Soldier Gets
l-to-3 Years
STUART— Daniel Flannigan,
18-year-old Stuart soldier, will
serve a sentence of from one to
three years in the reformatory
for causing the February 23
traffic death of Mrs. A. H. And
ersen of Grand Island. The youth
was sentenced in Grand Island
by District Judge E. G. Kroger.
Young Flannigan, who had re
cently returned to the U.S. from
Austria on an emergency leave,
entered a plea of no contest to
a charge of motor vehicle homi
cide. He testified he had no
recollection of the accident or of
events leading up to it.
Mrs. Andersen was fatally in
jured when a car driven by her
husband was struck by a ma
chine driven by Flannigan at a
Grand Island intersection on a
wintry night. Mr. Andersen was
seriously injured and is still hos
pitalized.
Judge Kroger said the youth
was violating the law by drink
ing, speeding and running a stop
sign.

daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thom
as J. Davis of Inman, recently
was initiated into Kappa Delta,
a national panhellenic sorority

given the title of “activity gill”

Miss Davis, who is a sopho
more at the University of Ne
braska, has also recently receiv
ed several other honors. She was
honored scholastically by being
on the honor roll of the Univer
sity of Nebraska as being ;n the
upper 15 percent of the class.
She was one of the nine chosen
as “outstanding” from the soph
omore class to present the soph
omore recital for the university.
In connection with music; Miss
Davis was pledged by Delta
Omicron, national music frater
nity, and was just informed of
being cast in the Kismet Klub
spring show presented each year
at the Nebraska theater. This
year’s show is “Fenian’s Rain
bow.”
Imogene has also made several
appearances on television, her
latest being on “Recital” over
KFOR-TV.___
More Feeder Pigs Than Usual
• There will be more feeder pigs than usual consigned -to
our sale today (Thursday), including one consignment
of 40 head of Yorkshire pigs, weighing around 40 pounds
each; also 15 head of very good, triple vaccinated Spotted
bred gilts to farrow in mid-April. There will be the regular
run ot fat hogs. The hog sale starts at noon.
• Around 250 cattle are expected, including 10 head of
registered Hereford bulls from the Don DeVoss herd
(see advertisement elsewhere), several good consignments
of calves and light yearlings, and the usual run of butcher
cattle.
• In our March 18th sale. 190-270 pound butcher hogs
sold from 25.75 to 26.90. about 40c over the river mar
ket top. Sows were quoted from 22.50 to 24 00. In the cattle
sale, steer calves were bringing 20.00-22.00; heifer calves,
16.00-17.25. Yearling steers demanded 19.50 on down to
17.50 and yearling heifers. 15.00 down to 13.50. Cannex and
cutter cows were quoted from 9.50 to 11.00 and fat cows,
11.00 to 13.00.

or Mrs. Mary Siebken LaFoy,
lie former Mary Gilman, were

ilarch 22, from St. Joseph’s
Catholic church here. Burial was
it Chambers.
The late Mrs. LaFoy died on
rhursday afternoon, March 18,
in Atkinson Memorial hospital,
after having been criticaly ill
for a week.
Mrs. LaFoy went to Sidney a
few months ago to reside with
her son, Glenn, and family. She
returned to Atkinson to attend
the funeral of a relative and
while here became ill and nev
er recovered.

oration, entitled “Let’s Take Off
Our Moral Blinders,” and Jean
ene Backhaus delivered a dra
matic reading, entitled “Eyes.”
Members of the play cast, en
titled “Eh,” included Marilyn
Lindberg, Duane Alton, Owen
Davis, Larry Chace and Pat De
Bolt. Members of the cast in the!
other play, which was entitled,
“One Happy Family,” included I

ger, Richard Gaskill, Janet Hull,
Janice Holsclaw, Dwayne De
Vall, Pat DeBolt and Robert
Sanders.

were entered in the district for

day. All three entries received
“excellent” ratings.
