The defeat closed the OHS

won 10 and lost six.
O’Neill jumped to a seven
point lead in the early minutes,

guards, Robinson and Johnson,
who collectively accounted for 41
points.
Larry Chace hit 20 points for

Stuart Wins 2
Class C Upsets
(Special to The Frontier)
ATKINSON — Those Stuart
high Broncos are the talk of the
district class C basketball tourney
in progress here, having scored
two stirring upsets.
First Round . . .
(Monday Night)
Stuart 60; Bartlett 45
nto Stuart high Broncos laun
ched the class C basketball tour
n*y in Atkinson Monday night
with a rousing upset, defeating
Wheeler county high (Bartlett),
w-4o. Bartlett was one of the
seeded teams
Stuart’s scoring was led by
Shald with 21 points, while Rosso
led Bartlett.
Stuart led Bartlet; 12-3 at the
first quarter, 24-13 at the half.
and 44-33 at the end of the third
• * *
St Joe 56; Butte 40
Two well-matched teams squar
ed off for Monday’s number
two game, but St. Joseph’s hall
(Atkinson) proved too much for
the strong Butte team, *56-40.
St. Joe was in front 34-19 at
the half, and moved to a 45-29
margin at the start of the final
period.
Clarence Schmit tallied 22
points for the victors, while
Quick was best for Butte with 11.
The fourth quarter turned into
a half-hour affair because of the
many fouls that were called.
Atkinson 55r St. Mary's 49
Best game of the evening was
the Atkinson-St. Mary’s (O’Neill)
"o wHch ended 55-49 in favor of
the elongated Balers.
Atkinson, which sported an
-in . and . aown season’s record,
jumped to an early lead sparked
by Freddy Dobrovolny’s two,
fielders and five free throws dur
in~ the first half.
The Balers owned a 21-11 ad
jutage when St. Marys Terry
Wanser sank four successive
I fielders in four tries. Atkinson
was in front, 24-23, at intermis
sion
The third period was a weird,
see-saw affair and ended 36-ali.
St. Mary’s moved ahead three
points as the fourth stanza open
ed. But personal fouls were the
C* undoing.
The Balers succeeded in mak
ing only one fielder during the
frantic fourth but cashed in on
15 consecutive freethrows t o
ice the victory and knock the
Cards from tournament running.
Duane Weier, SMA center,
was chased from the game via
the foul route with five minutes
to go and the Cardinal cause was
completely lost when Guard
Dick Graham was escorted to the
showers, same reason, with 3
minutes remaining. Wanser roll
ed ud 18 pcdnts for SMA; Gary
Small hit 18 for Atkinson.
It was curtains for Coach
Fritz Bazelman and the 1954 edi
tion of the Cards, who returned
home to pack their togs.

Those Stuart Broncos, who
Monday ousted Bartlett, roared
back Tuesday to whip the Ewing

two of these suites more than
we needed so last week they
were put on sale at $189.50.
Only one sold.
The boss called up Monday
and wanted to know if both
No. 750's moved.
I answered: "One left." He
said, "Cut it to $119.50.” and.
as an after-thought, he asked:
"How much did they cost us?'
Before I got back to the tel

with the words stuck in my
mouth, "$141.00 and $13.40
freight apiece.” Old 750 will be
on display in our east window

you from seeing this one if you
need a bedroom suite.
