The meeting was called to or der and the following proceedings were had and done: The Clerk presented the final reports and estimates of J. M. Thorburn, Special Engineer in charge, on the paving and street improvements in Paving Districts and Street Improvement Districts numbered 7 and 8, which reports and estimates have been filed in the Clerk’s ofice. After consider ation thereof, Councilman Uhl offered the following Resolution and moved its adoption: “WHEREAS, the special engi neer employed by the City of O’Neill to make the plans and specifications for and supervise the construction of street im provements in Street Improve ment Districts numbered 7 and 8 of said City, has certified that said paving and street improve ments have been completed ac cording to the plans and specifi cations adopted by the Council and the construction contracts let therefor, and have filed the final estimate of cost . thereof, and, ‘•Whereas, the mayor and coun cil by a personal inspection of said Districts have found that said paving and street improve ments have been completed ac cording to contract; NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF O’NEILL, NEBRASKA; 1. That the paving and street improvements constructed in Paving and Street Improvement Districts numbered 7 and 8 of said City be, and the same are hereby accented by the City of O’Neill. . 2. The Mayor and Council find and certify that the cost of con structing said paving and im provements under contracts here tofore let by the City and which is to be paid by the City is as fellows: . _. No. Intersection District 7 $13,291.84 $19,016.75 8 $20,612.57 $19,368.20 The foregoing Resolution hav ing been read, Councilman Stutz seconded the motion for its adoption, and after discussion, the roll was called thereon and the following Councilmen voted in favor of the passage and adop tion of said Resolution: Uhl, Stutz, Merriman, Crabb and Johnson. No votes were cast against the Resolution. Such Resolution having received more than a majority of the votes in favor thereof, the Mayor declar ed the same duly passed and adopted. Thereupon Councilman uni offered the following Resolution and moved its adoption: BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND COUNCIL OF l'HE CITY OF O’NEILL, NE BRASKA: .. . , The Mayor and Council hereby find and determine; That pursu ant to a contract heretofore made, Dobson Bros. Construction Company of Lincoln, Nebraska,, ^"i ' has performed work and fur nished nrtaterials for the con struction of street improvements in certain Street Improvement Districts in said City and the engineer in charge has filed with the City Clerk a certificate showing the furnishing of said materials and the performance of said contract, and there is due the said contractor from the City of O’Neill on account therof, as follows: Final Estimate No. 2, Street Improvement District 7, $26, 171.45. Final Estimate No. 2, Street Improvement District 8, $16, 346.17. The Mayor and Council here by find and determine: That pur suant to a contract heretofore made, J. M. Thorburn, Engineer, has performed engineering ser vices for the construction of street improvements in certain Street Improvement Districts in said City and the engineer in charge has filed with the City Clerk a certificate showing the performance of said services and the performance of said contract, and there is due the said J. M. i Thorburn, Engineer, from the | City of O’Neill on account there of as follows: Final Estimate No. 2, Street Improvement District 7, $943.57. Final Estimate No. 2, Street Improvement District 8, $487.30. That there is hereby ordered issued to the said Dobson Bros. Construction Company, and charged to said Districts, war rants for the above amounts found due, and that there shall likewise be issued to the said J. M. Thorburn, warrants for the above amounts found due, same to be charged to said Districts, all of the same being the final amounts found due to said par ties. That all of said warrants shall draw interest at the rate of 3 per cent per annum until January 1, 1954, and 6 per centum per annum thereafter. The warrants hereinabove au thorized to be issued, and all warrants heretofore issued for the purpose of making partial pay ments as the work progresses, shall be paid out of the proceeds of the sale of Intersection and District Paving Bonds which the City shall cause to be issued; provided, however, before the District Paving Bonds are issued, there shall be applied to the payment of said costs all moneys collected in cash from the special assessments levied on the proper I ty in said Districts. The foregoing Resolution hav ing been read, Councilman Siutz seconded the motion for its pas sage and adoption, and after con sideration thereof the Yeas and Nays were called on the passage of said Resolution and the fol lowing Councilmen voted Yea and in favor of the passage of said Resolution; Councilmen Uhl, Stutz, Merriman, Johnson and Crabb. Nay: None. The passage of the Resolution having been concurred in by a majority of all the members elected to the Council, was by the Mayor declared passed and adopted. Thereupon Councilman Uni introduced the following Reso lution and moved its adoption: Whereas the Special Engineer in charge of work and plans, has submitted his final certificate, certifying that the work, and materials called for in the con tract for construction of a swim ming pool has been completed in a good and workmanlike man ner and in strict compliance with the terms of the contract by Dobson Bros. Construction Com pany, and that the final amount of payment due the said Dobson Bros. Construction Company un der said contract for said work and materials is the sum of $10,-1 380.00, and further certifying that there is due J. M. Thorbum, Engineer in charge, for engi neering services in connection therewith, the sum of $104.00, and, Whereas the Mayor and Coun cil being satisfied that said con tracts have been performed in full and according to the terms thereof, NOW THEREORE, BE IT RE SOLVED, that the work and ma terials furnished by the Dobson Bros. Construction Company in the construction of the Swim ming Pool be and same hereby are accepted by the City; That the services of J. M. Thorburn, for engineering work in conneciton with said swim ming pool contract be accepted by the City; That there is hereby ordered issued to Dobson Bros. Con struction Company, warrant of the City for said final estimate in the amount of $10,380.00, and to J. M. Thorbum in the amount of $104.00; that said warrants shall be drawn upon and paid from funds from the sale of Park Improvement Bonds of the City of O’Neill, previously issued and sold for such purpose. The foregoing Resolution hav ing been read, Councilman Stutz seconded the motion for its pas sage and adoption. After consid eration thereof, a roll call vote was taken on said motion, and resulted as follows: Yea: Uhl, Stutz, Merriman, Johnson, and Crabb. Nay: None. Said motion having received the concurrence of a majority of all of the mem bers elected to the City Council, same was by the Mayor declared passed and adopted. FRENCH City Clerk Doolittles Observe 50th Anniversary Parents of 7 Living Children AMELIA—Mr. and Mrs. Tom Doolittle celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Wednesday, December 30, and to observe the occasion, open-house was held at the home of their son, Tommie, that afternoon from 2 to 4 o’ clock. Nearly 150 relatives and friends signed the guest book. Ice cream and cake were served. The nonored couple received many gifts. The children present ed their mother a diamond ring and their father a wristwatch. The Amelia community gave them a platform rocker and a floor lamp. Their daughters, Mrs. M. 3. (Ruth) Kennedy and Mrs. Harold (Birdie) Fullerton, baked the cake which was a three-tier angel mod. Mrs. Ralph Rees decorated the cake in white and gold, top ped by a miniature bride and oiidegroom. Mr. and Mrs. Doolittle came to the Amelia community in their early married life and resided on the ranch on which their sons, Tom.nie and Clyde, now live, un til about three year's ago, wnen they exchanged places with their son, Tommie. Then are the parents of 10 children, seven of whom are liv ing and attended the celebra tion. They are: Mrs. Herman (Myrtle) Medlin of Red Cloud, Mrs. Kennedy and Mrs. Fuller ton, both of Amelia, Art, Tom mie, Clyde and Clinton, all of Amelia. There are 25 grandchil dren and several great-grand children. Those attending from a dis tance were Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Doolittle, Mr. and Mrs. William Boward and Mr. and Mrs. Jim Doolittle, all of Cortland; Mr. and Mrs. Herman Medlin of Red Cloud and Mr. and Mrs. Carl Smith of Atkinson. Mrs. Iva Hopkins returned home Sunday after a three weeks’ visit at the home of her son-in law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Morey, in Sioux City. Mr. and Mrs. John Kramer, ji\, of Stuart were Sunday eve ning dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Borg. Wil liam D. Kalal, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Kalal. Sergeant Kalal died while on duty in Korea. He was fatally injured when a buddy stepped on a mine which blew up, fatal ly wounding Sergeant Kalal. He was killed November 9. He was to have been rotated back to the U.S. within a week. Sergeant Kalal attended school in the Knoxville school, having lived in this vicinity all his life. Survivors include: Parents — Mr. and Mrs. William Kalal; sisters—Mrs. C. E. McCollum of Omaha, Mrs. Gordon Ba^ta of Redbird and Miss Darlene Kalal of Verdigre. Origin of Buttons Told by Clubbers EMMET—The South Side club met with Mrs. Georgians Mc Ginnis on Tuesday, January 5, with all but three members pres ent. Six visitors were guests. Each member brought buttons with a story of each. A lesson on buttons and their origin was giv en by Mrs. Ralph Fritton. Following the lesson a Chinese auction was held, netting nearly $12. Mr. and Mrs. Howard McCon nell of O’Neill visited his par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Alex McCon nell, on Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Harold McMillan of Newport were Sunday, Janu ary 3, guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ce cil McMillan. Jeanie Kay Foreman was a Sunday, January 3, overnight guest of Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Fox and Barbara.
