Spending Christmas North of 38th Parallel STUART—Army Pfc. Charles G. Campbell, 21, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Campbell of Stuart, will gpend Cristmas north of the 38th parallel in Korea. On security duty with the 45th infantry division, he will have the opportunity to attend special religious services and share the traditional holiday feasts. Camp bell. a cannoneer with the 189th field artillery battalion’s battery B, entered the army last January and arrived overseas in July. Yule Decorations in Home— EWING—The Thursday bridge club met last Thursday evening at the home of Mrs. Lyle Dierks Her home was decorated in a Christmas theme. Score winners were Mrs. Grace Briggs, Mrs. Earl Billings and Mrs. R. G. Rockey. After the games there was a social hour with an ex change of gifts. Douglas St., O’Neill Phone 138 Nativity Pageant Highlights Program A large audience attended th.i Christmas program presented by the Sunday-school classes of the First Presbyterian church Sun day evening. The program opened with the congregation singing the carol, "O, Come All Ye Faithful," fol lowed with recitations and songs by the kindergarten, first and second grades. The nativity pageant, given by the primary, junior, junior high and senior high classes, presented *he Christmas story in word and song while the various scenes were pantomimed by the pupils; a background painted by Mrs. Ray Bettenhausen showed the stable setting and added to the manger scene. The program was directed by the teachers of the Sunday school: Mrs. Arlo Hiatt, Mrs. Guy Johnson, Mrs. Dwight Harder, Mrs. Felix Hendrick, Mrs. Dewey Schaffer and Miss Helen May. Mrs. John Harbottle was the pianist for the program. — To Spend Christmas n Iowa— Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Grady and son, Jimmy, plan to leave today (Thursday) to spend Christmas with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Pray of Ft. Dodge, la. Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Harding expect to spend Christmas day in Ord at the home of her broth er-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Dale Norman. John Joe Uni went to Omaha last Thursday on business. Hugh and Elwin Benson went to Sioux City Sunday on busi ness. Page News Mr. and Mrs. Duane Gray and family of Butte visited Saturday with the former’s mother, Mrs. Evelyn Gray. Mr. and Mrs. John Walker and son of Ewing were guests Sun day at the home of his brother, C. E. Walker, and family. The Just-A-Mere club met Fri day with Mrs. E. H. Farnsworth with a 1 o’clock no-host dinner. Members had their exchange of Christmas gifts. The afternoon was spent playing rook. Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Chase of Keystone, S. D., left for their home Friday after a few days visit with relatives at Page and Plainview. Mrs. Frank Chmeler and dau ghter, Mrs. Thomas Gilmore, and son of Norfolk spent an afternoon last week with Mrs. Chmeler’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Townsend. Mr. and Mrs. R. D. Copes and Mr. and Mrs. Lester Riege were guests at an oyster supper last Thursday evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. P. E. Nissen in observance of the birthday anni versary of Mrs. Riege. Lyman Park, jr., of Wemble don, N. D., came last week to visit his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lyman Park, sr., and other rel atives and to attend the wedding of his brother, Donald Park and Miss Mary Halstead. Elwin Haynes of Denton came to Page Saturday night where he visited his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Allen Haynes, and to attend the Halstead-Park • wedding. Rev. and Mrs. L. E. Mewmaw and family are spending the holi days visiting with relatives in Donnellson and Robinson, 111. The GGG & G club met with Mrs. Bert Finley Friday after noon. Mrs. Otto Matschullat won high score, Mrs. Hester Edmin ! isten, traveling and Mrs. Anton Nissen, low. There was an ex | change of Christmas gifts. The next meeting will be with Mrs. Mattschullat. Mr. and Mrs. William Watter man entertained their pinochle club. High score prizes went to Mrs. Alfred Connor and Herbert Steinberg. The low to Mrs. Ed ward Shaw and Leland Finley. Lunch was served by the hostess. Mr. and Mrs. Allan Haynes and Mr. and Mrs. Harry Harper were guests at a no-host dinner at the J. I. Gray home Saturday evening. The occasion honored the birthday, anniversaries of Mr. Haynes, December 11, Mr. Har per, December 17, and Mr. Gray, December 18. The evening was spent playing cards. Mr. and Mrs. Keith Kennedy returned from Camp Pendleton, Calif., where he had spent about two years. He left for service December 13. 1951, and returned home December 13, 1953. Mr. and Mrs. Kennedy will live on the Wendell Quigly farm the coming year. The NOK club met at the home of Mrs. A. T. Crumly with Mrs. Josie Crumly as hostess for an all-day session. A no-host dinner was served. Thirteen members were present. They held an ex change of gifts. They drew names for the mystery pals for 1954. Officers elected were Mrs. Ar thur Grass, president; Mrs. A. T. Crumley, secretary and treasurer. O’Neill News Ralph McElvain and his lis ter, Mrs. R. K. Platt of Chim hers, went to Norfolk Sunday to visit their sister, Mrs. Zada Russ who is a patient in Our Lady of Lourdes hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Edward Moos it to Omaha Sunday evening to bring their son, LeRoy, home for the Christmas holidays. The little boy drank some lye water about four years ago and has to spend most of his time in or | near a hospital in Omaha. Others there in cluded Mr and Mrs Warren Miller of Butte, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Wells and Leo Thomson Miss Marilyn Duffy of Casper, Wyo., came Tuesday to spend nie Christmas holidays with Mr. and Mrs. Ralph McElvain and family and other relatives and friends. Dale Beilin, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Beilin, came home Monday evening from North Ho. lywood, Calif., where he has been employed for the past two months. ,, , Arnold Miller, son of Mr ana Mrs. Ewalt Miller of Star, came home on Monday from North Hollywood, Calif., where he has oeen employed for the past two months. Billy McElvain, who attends the Nebraska university at Lin coln, is spending the Christmas vacation with his parents, Mr and Mrs. Ralph McElvain. Richard Hungerford is shown (above) receiving his wings from the commandant of the navy flight training school at Pensacola, Fla. Lieutenant Hungerford, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Hungerford of Bassett, is a former O’Neill high school athletic great. He graduated from high school and later graduated from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. His wife is the for mer Wilma Davis of Lincoln.
