Weekly Market Report
of
The Atkinson Livestock Market
Atkinson, Nebraska
December 15th Auction
Cattle receipts totaled 2236 head at Tuesday’s auction.
Most all classes sold steady to a little stronger on the higher
quality kinds which were in very short supply. There was a
large crowd in attendance but most of the buyers were want
ing stockers and feeders and our run was top heavy with
breeding cows.
Choice steer calves sold mainly $18.00 to $20.50 with an
extreme top of $22.70 on some 430 lb. weights. Heifer calves
cleared mainly at $14.00 to $16.00 and again quality was
sought by most buyers. Twenty-five head of 470 ib. heifers
topped the sale at $17.20.
There weren’t enough yearling steers for the buyers
who were on the seats. They sold mostly from $17.00 to $19.50.
Three loads of long horned yearlings brought $17.40. Year
ling heifers were again scarce but the packages were quotable
from $14.00 to $15.50.
Breeding cows were most plentiful, just too many for one
sale. The top load brought $13t).00 and the rest ranged from
$90.00 to $127.50. They lacked the quality of the breeding
cows that we have sold for local ranchers in previous weeks.
Canner cows bulked mostly at $6.50 to $7.50 with cutters
about steady with a week ago from $8.00 to $9.00 cwt. Beef
cows $9.00 to $10.50. Bologna bulls looked 50 cents cwt. high
er and sold from $8.00 to $10.50.
The Angus Bulls of Flying D Farms averaged $283.00 with
Henry Heiser paying the top of $407.50 on a Grandson of
Eileenmere 500th.
Inquiry remains particularly strong on good feeders. It
sort of looks like prices on stockers and feeders wili see the
year out at pretty strong prices compared to a rather sluggish
fat cattle market. If you have cattle to sell, list them with
us as early as possible so we may advertise them. See you
Tuesday.
