PAGE— Robert, small son of
Mr. and Mrs. Walter Hunt of St.
Paul, recently returned to his
home after spending two weeks
in Childrens Memorial hospital,
Omaha, where he was under ob
servation for an unusual eye
condition. His condition is not
serious as it was first thought to
be. Mr.' Hunt was a teacher and
coach of the Page school last
j term. . . Mr. and Mrs. Roy Ste
wart and Rollie Snell left on
Wednesday morning, December
2, for Omaha where Mr. Stewart
and Mr. Snell went for medical
attention. X-rays showed Mr.
Stewart’s condition good. Mr.
Snell entered the University hos
pital Friday for surgery this
week. Mr. and Mrs. Stewart are
staying at the Ivan Stewart home
at Ralston.
O’NEILL—Mrs. Alice Bridges
fell on the ice Saturday near the
postoffice, fracturing two bones
in her right leg above the ankle.
She was taken to St. Anthony’s
hospital. . . Allan Van Vleck was
taken to’ the Veterans hospital at
Grand Island Wednesday, Dec
ember 2, by his wife. He is suf
fering with a heart ailment. Mrs.
Van Vleck returned the same
day. Meanwhile, his mother, Mrs.
Robert Van Vleck of Neligh, un
derwent major surgery at Ro
chester, Minn.

who has been in an Omaha hos

AMELIA—Mrs. Hienie Frahm
was able to leave the Atkinson
Memorial hospital Sunday. Mr.
Frahm took her to the home of
her mother, Mrs. Maude Forbes,
at Bassett to convalesce for a
few days. . . Mrs. Raymond Bly,
who underwent surgery at the
O’Neill hospital, was able to
leave the hospital and was re
cuperating at the home of Mrs.
Olive Dexter for a few days.
BRISTOW—Mrs. Robert John
son of Bristow underwent an op
eration at an O’Neill hospital late
last week. . . Edgar Danielson re
turned here Sunday from Nor
folk, where he had been with his
wife. She underwent an operation
in the Lutheran hospital Thurs
day and is reported getting along
well.
SOUTH OF STUART—Mr. and
Mrs. J. P. Murphy went to O’Neill
Sunday to see their daughter,
Rita Ann, who was a patient at
the St. Anthony’s hospital for z
few days. Rita Ann is improved
and was dismissed from the hos
pital Sunday.
INMAN— Gene Couch was a
patient in St. Anthony’s hospital
Saturday and Sunday morning.
He returned home Sunday after
noon. Gene is the son of Mr. and
Mrs. Ivan Couch.

Nurse Dies at 62
Miss Tresa Keller, 62, one ol
four sisters who are registered
nurses and a sister of Mrs. J. L.
McCarville, sr., of O’Neill, died
Sunday in an Omaha hospital.
Funeral services were conduct
ed at 9 a.m., Wednesday at St
Francis Catholic church, Hum
phrey.
Attending the rites were Air.
and Mrs. J. L. McCarvillt, sr..
Mr. and Mrs. J. L. McCarv'ilie, Jr.,
’ and family, and Mr. and Mrs.
John H. McCarville.
The late Miss Keller served in
World War I as an army nurse
and was an Omaha nurse more
than 40 years. Survivors include
her father, who was taken to a
Columbus hospital because hi
serious illness, without knowing
of his daughter’s death; a-so one
brother and six sisters.

J. P. Murphy of Stuart, recent
ly joined the 40th infantry di
vision in Korea. The former Cal
ifornia national guard division
which arrived in Korea during
early 1952, is undergoing inten
sive post-truce training.
Private Murphy entered the
army in March and completed
basic training at Camp Breck
inridge, Ky.
Return From West—
Mr. and Mrs. L. G. Gillespie
returned Friday, December 4
after a six weeks visit on the
West coast. They visited Mrs.
Gillespie’s sisters and their fam
ilies in Portland, Salem and Park
Place, in Oregon, and Vancouver,
Wash. It had been 20 years since
Mrs. Gillespie had seen her sis
ters, Mrs. Mabel Davies and Mrs.
John Eskeldson. They also went
to Los Angeles, Calif., to visit
their daughter, Mrs. E. R. Wood,
and family.
Yule Party—
The Justa club held a Christ
mas party at the Town House
Wednesday evening. Gifts were
exchanged and the evening was
spent socially.

Death Knell Is

Middlehranch PO
PAGE — The Middlehranch
postoffice was discontinued Tues
day. December 1. Mrs. Alta Finch
had been the postmaster for the
past 30 years. She has moved to
Page to make her home.
In September, 1923, Mrs. Finch
and the late John Finch bought
the Middlehranch store which
they both operated until the
death of Mr. Finch about two

years ago. Since then Mrs. Finch
had continued with the store and
postoffice. Having decided she
could not carry on the work she
resigned. As no one seemed to
want the postoffice it was dis
continued and Mrs. Finch is
disposing of the merchandise
stock.
About 70 years ago there was
a flour mill at Middlebranch
which was run for a number of
years by different parties. There
was also a church there for a
number of years. Both buildings
were razed a few years ago. At
present only the store building |
is left at Middlebranch.

Between 800 and 1,000 Cattle Expected
• There will be between eight hundred and a thousand
head of cattle on the market here today (Thursday)
in the first auction to be held since November 19. The No
vember 26 Bale was cancelled because of the Thanksgiving
holiday and last week's sale was cancelled because of the
blizzard.
• Today's offering is expected to include mostly good H
quality yearling steers and heifers, also some outstand
ing calves. There will be several loads of 2-year-old steers
and the balance will be mixed cattle of all kinds.
• The hog sale will get underway in the morning. There
will be four purebred Yorkshire boars consigned by
Fay Puckett; also several good consignments of feeder pigs.
