Deaths on Increase in State, Statistics Report Reveals For the second consecutive year, more Nebraskans died dur ing the first six months than in the corresponding period of the preceeding year. The vital statistics bureau re ported 7,020 deaths for the first six months of 1953, compared to 6,795 in the first half of 1952, and 6,366 in the corresponding portion of 1951. Heart disease accounted for 2,570 of this year’s deaths, com pared to 2,520 in the first half of 1952 and 2,302 in the first half of 11951. Cancer killed 1,051 persons in the first half of this year, com pared to 935 in the fiist half of 1951. Accidents took 400 lives in the first half of this year. An auto mobile was involved in. 117 of these deaths, while accidental falls were blamed for 121 deaths. The first half of 1^52 saw 414 deaths due to accidents, while in the first half of 1951 there were 400. And while the number of deaths was increasing, the number of births was declining somewhat. The first six months of the year showed a count of 15,253 births, compared to 15,999 in the first half of 1952. Stuart Club Meets STUART—The S. E. club met Sunday at the Eugene Wedige home. Mrs. Lawrence Hamik and Leo Weichman won high score prizes at cards and Mrs. Paul Kramer and Alton Hoffman were low. I 1 Sick & '; ed O’NEILL—Mrs. H. D. Gilder sleeve and infant son, Phillip Lyle, were dismissed from St Anthony’s hospital Saturday. . . Marvin Anderson and L. E. Pres cott of Hartington visited Sun day evening with Leon Sargent. Mr. Sargent later left by train for Omaha where he entered the University hospital for a check up. . . Don Henze, 18, son of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Renze, is being removed from Sacred Heart hos pital, Yankton, S.D., to a navy hospital at Great Lakes, 111. He was hurt when the car he was driving overturned north of Hartington, killing James Suing, 18, Hartington. The parents vis ited their son Tuesday night at Yankton. AMELIA— Mrs. Mary LaFoy is a patient in the Atkinson Me morial hospital. . . Don Fullerton had the misfortune to have his ankle broken while playing bas ketball at Chambers Friday eve ning. . . Mrs. Emma Lindsey has been on the sick list. She was in O’Neill Friday where she con sulted a doctor. . . Mrs. Hienie Frahm submitted to an emer gency appendectomy on Sunday evening. She is a patient in the Atkinson Memorial hospital. . . Mrs. Asa Watson has been ill with sinus trouble. Mr. and Mrs. Watson went to Hastings where on Monday they consulted a doctor. . . Bob Adair went to Omaha Tuesday, November 24, for a medical checkup. CHAMBERS—Raymond Hoxie drove to Omaha Monday, Novem ber 23, to bring Mrs. Hoxie home from a hospital. . . Mrs. Lois Ad ams had the misfortune to fall last Thursday and break her hip. She is a patient at St. Anthony’s hospital. . . Mrs. Wayne Smith is a patient at St. Anthony’s hospi tal. . . Mrs. Zada Russ of O’Neill is a patient at Our Lady of Lourdes hospital, Norfolk. Her sister, Mrs. R. K. Platt, visited her Sunday. . . Beverly Elkins has been ill with the influenza. . . . Mrs. A1 Liedtke returned on Saturday from St. Anthony’s hospital. LYNCH—Mr. and Mrs. Frank Mulhair received word that their granddaughter, Miss Ruby Sixta of Denver, Colo., is suffering with curvature of the spine and must remain in a cast for some time. . . . Mrs. Albina Milacek has been on the sick list the past week. . . George Carter is a pa tient in the Veterans hospital in Lincoln. . . Mrs. Elizabeth Nollett of Valentine is here at the bed side of her mother. Mrs. Peter Gengler, who is critically ill. EWING—Word has been re ceived that Mrs. Verna Harris underwent a major operation November 27. DELOIT—Frank Bohn had the misfortune of getting his hand caught in a corn elevator a week ago. He lost part of one finger and was hospitalized a couple of days. He is getting along well. . . Mrs. Cletus Muff was dismissed from the Neligh hospital follow ing a major operation. SOUTH OF STUART— John Kramer returned home Tuesday evening, November 24, after re ceiving treatments for three weeks at Midland, S.D. . . . STUART—Mr. and Mrs. Cliff Nelson returned home Friday, November 27, from Lamed, Kans., where Mrs. Nelson has been hospitalized. INMAN — Arthur Tomlinson left Sunday for Kansas City, Mo., where he will receive medical attention SPENCER NEWS Richard Barta of Scottsbluff, spent the Thanksgiving holiday here with his mother, Mrs. John Barta. Mr. and Mrs. Dopavon Luedke and children of Mmatare spent Thanksgiving here at the William Luedke and Dr. L. I. Hines homes. Several straight load lots sold and looked a half-dollar to a dollar higher. Nebraska ranchers bought most of breeding cows, popular prices from $140 to $160 per head. Yearling heifers were in short supply. Canner cows, 7.00 to 8.00; cutters, 8.00 to 9.00; beef cows, 9.50 to 11 50; bulls, 8.50 to 11.00. . . Remember, we are selling only on our regular Tuesday dates. Representative sales above and the large crowd in attendance indicate a lot of feeders are still looking for their feeder cattle.
