ty is SI.54 per bushel and applica
tion for loans and purchase agree
ments may be made from October
20. 3953 through May 31, 1954,
at the county PMA office.
This price is applicable for corn
stored on the farm if the corn
grades Number 3 of better or
Number 4 because of test weight
only. Ear com containing not in
excess of 20.5 percent moisture
will be eligible for loan until
February 28, 1954. Subsequent to
that date and until March 31,
1954, corn with 19 percent moist
ure will be eligible. From then
until April 30, 1954, not in excess
of 17.5 percent moisture will be
eligible.
During the month of May, 1954,
not in excess of 15.5 percent
moisture will be eligible for loan.
Shelled com may be sealed at
any time on the farm provided
that it does not have in excess of
13.5 percent moisture and meets
other grading requirements.

any other material laid flat on
the ground will not be acceptable
as a floor. All cribs must be por
vided with a permanent type roof
of wood or metal supported above
the corn to permit ventilation.
Ewing News
Pvt. James Good, who was
home on a 10 day furlough from
Camp Chaffee, Ark., described
some of his experiences during a
12-week basic training before the
Boy Scout troop prior to leaving
Tuesday evening. He was junior
scoutmaster of troop 181 of Ewing
before leaving for army service.
Private Good left early Wednes
day, October 7, for Camp Chaffee
and expects to leave soon for an
18-month assignment in Germany.
Mrs. Earl Billings and Mrs. Ed
na Lofquest visited Wednesday,
October 7, with Mrs. Billings’
mother, Mrs. Myrtle Kimes at
Clearwater. Mrs. Kimes will soon
leave for California to spend the
winter months at the home of
her son, Leo Kimes, and family.
Mrs. Carrie Bernhardt, sister of
Mrs. Kimes, who has been visit
ing her, returned to Ewing with
Mrs. Billings and Mrs. Lofquest.

Miss Fern Pruden, district ad
visor for the Future Homemakers
of America, was guest speaker at
the recent convention of district
7 at David City. Miss Pruden
spoke at the noon luncheon on
“Highlights of the National FHA
Convention”. She attended this
convention at Columbus, O., last
summer. Miss Helen Rotherham,
vice-president of the local FHA,
district 6 secretary, and a candid
ate for state secretary, attended
the David City convention with
Miss Pruden.
Pvt. Jerry Rotherham, who re
cently spent a leave with his par
ents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Rother
ham, has left for a station in
Washington state and expects to
be sent to the Far East. Cpl. Vin
cent Rotherham, now serving in
Korea, has recently been promot
ed from private-first-class.
Boy Scout troop 181 of Ewing
is making plans to attend the Boy
Scout fair to be held on Sunday,
October 18, at the O’Neill Legion
hall. The purpose of the fair is
to bring the actual scouting pro
gram to the public. Included in
the demonstrations will be fire
ignited by flint and steel, first
aid bandage, tying and signaling.
Benjamin Larsen left Monday
for Wood, S. D., where he will
spend several days on business
this week.
Miss Ina Bennett had as her
guests on Sunday, Mr. and Mrs.
Wilbur Bennett of Ewing, Mr. and
Mrs. Maynard Morrow and family
of O’Neill, Mrs. Flora Young and
family of Orchard.

Mrs. John Archer attended a dis
trict meeting of the polio fouzug
ation at O’Neill on Wednesday'
evening, Oct. 8. Miss Rotherham
who is at present Holt county
treasurer of the polio foundation,
was awarded a five-year service
pin.
