Wheeler Phone Fuss
Enters New Phase
BARTLETT—Wheeler county’s
elephone dispute entered another
phase last week.
In local newspapers, the Beaver
Valley Phone company published
a notice of dissoulution.
Eighty percent of the stock
holders signed the notice. It will
become effective December 81
this year.
The telephone company listed
assets of 88 miles of wire, 65 tele
phones, 1,016 poles and switching
equipment.
The move was apparently a
counter to a decision in district
court, forcing the telephone com
pany to restore service to Wheel
er county courthouse offices,
pending a settlement in rates.

All 6 Kids Dearly, Love to Eat
October!
Gosh, how did this all hap
pen? Only yesterday we could
hardly wait until the sweet corn
was ready to eat!
Time has been playing some
downright dirty tricks on us by
slipping away so fast and we
can’t do a thing about it.
On second thought, I guess we
did. Those jars of stuff on the
shelves, those packages of frozen
fruit and vegetable and pickle
fruits and vegetables in the
freezer, those cartons of dressed
poultry and other foods! We can
say we’ie proud right out loud,
can’t we?
It’s time now to dig gladiolus
bulbs, that is, the general rule
is to dig them six to eight weeks
after flowering. When the leaves
die down, cut off the withered
tops about four inches above the
ground, then dig. Bulbs are soft
when first dug, so hang them
in bunches or spread to dry for
two or three weeks. When bulbs
are dry, clean off the foliage,
aull off dried roots, but don i
remove the husks. Store in paper
bags with naphthalene flakes or
crushed mothballs (one table
spoon to each 25 bulbs) to dis
courage thrips. Put flakes in bag,
cover with a sheet of paper, then
put in the bulbs. Keep in a cool
place, about 40 degrees.
Now for good things to eat.
This is the time of year when
baked things do taste so good.

Mother of Six
Wins Subscription—
Dear Blanche:
All of my six kids dearly like
to eat, and that’s the honest
truth. So it is a project in itself
to keep them well fed three
times a day, not to mention a
snack now and then filched be
tween meals.
Peanut butter candy cookies
are one of the treats they cer
tainly enjoy.
PEANUT BUTTER CANDY
COOKIES
One-half cup peanut butter, %
cup sugar, % cup evaporated
milk, 2Vz cups corn flakes.
By BLANCHE SPANN PEASE
Mix peanut butter, sugar and

cornflakes until thoroughly
blended with peanut butter mix
ture. Drop by teaspoonfuls onto
ungreased baking sheet. Bake in
a moderate oven of 375 F. for 15
minutes or until evenly browned.
A cookie the whole family (pa
and ma like to eat, too) really
goes for is cocoanut pecan fin
gers. The kids can’t keep their
fingers off of them, and the
shortening is lard, which means
they are economical.
COCOANUT PECAN FINGERS
