Mrs. Troy How ard arrived home Monday from Omaha where she had been with her son, Bobby, who is a patient at the University hospital. Bob by is getting along well. There will be no amputation but doctors say his leg will be stiff and the heel must be “built-up” . . . Dr. L. A. Burgess will leave today (Thursday) for Rochester, Minn., where he will spend several days visiting his wife and daughter, Joann. Joann is receiving med ical treatment at St. Mary’s hos ital . . . Orton Young had a “severe” heart attack Monday week and submitted to surgery night . . . Lawrence Murray en tered St. Anthony’s hospital last last Thursday. He was released Wednesday. EWING — George Burke is spending a few days at St. An thony’s hospital for a checkup. . • ■ Lyle Dierks and his brother in-law, A. E. Spittler, went to Omaha on Saturday to bring Mrs. Spittler home from the hos pital where she had spent sever al weeks and also underwent sur gery. . . Mrs. Elizabeth Angus, who has spent several weeks at Madison assisting in the home of her daughter, Mrs. James Furley, who recently underwent surgery, arrived at her home in Ewing over the weekend . . . Mrs. W. J. Bomer and baby daughter came Sunday from the Antelope Me morial hospital. . . Thomas (“Tommy”) Wanser is “improv ed” and “out of danger” at St. Anthony’s hospital. He suffered a skull fracture on Sunday, Sep tember 13, when he fell from a moving auto. DELOIT—Little Mike Schmis ?r was able to come home from the hospital on Monday. . . Mrs. Leonard Knapp is a patient in a Norfolk hospital. She is suf fering with pneumonia. . . Mrs. Walter Anderson accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Max Hanson and son to Rochester, Minn., on Wed nesday, September 16. Mrs. And erson went for a checkup. . . August Kalhoff is recuperating from the flu and will undergo major surgery for ulcers at the Tilden hospital in the near fu ture. CHAMBERS — Pete Sorenson is a patient at St. Joseph’s hos pital, Omaha. . .' Mrs. Lloyd Win termote had her tonsils removed at the Neligh hospital last Thurs day. . . Henry Brown had his tonsils removed at the Neligh hospital early last week. . . Ru ben Peltzer is a patient at St. Anthony’s hospital, O’Neill. He went Sunday evening, Septem ber 20. INMAN— George Laney was released from St. Anthony’s hos pital on Friday and was taken to a rest home at Genoa by his son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Laney. . . George Colman, jr., and Horace Keil went to Omaha Friday to bring Mr. and Mrs. George Colman, sr., home. Mr. Colman, sr., had been a patient in the Methodist hospi tal in Omaha for several days. AMELIA — Mrs. Art Kaiser entered the O’Neill hospital on Monday evening, September 14, where she submitted to major surgery the following morning. . . . Mr. and Mrs. S. C. Barnett and Mrs. Glenn White went to Elgin Monday to visit Mr. Bar nett’s sister, Mrs. Eva Sparrow, who is ill. SOUTH OF STUART — Flor ian Scholz went to O’Neill Sat urday to get his father, Charles Scholz, who had been a patient at St. Anthony’s hospital the last few weeks for treatment of a fractured leg. Mr. Scholz is glad to be at his home in Stuart and | is getting along fine and manages his crutches “quite well.” . . . Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Givens took their daughter, Lois, to Grand Island Friday for a checkup. Lois is getting along fine and shows quite a lot of improvement since the last checkup. . . Sun day afternoon visitors at the Ed Krysl home were the John Miksch, Louis Radcliff and Rich ard Straka families. Mr. Krysl recently returned home from Our Lady of Lourdes hospital, Nor folk, and is “getting along fine.” REDBIRD-— Cpl. Beryle Bes sert, son of Mr. and Mrs. Art Bessert, has been in a Buffalo, N.Y., hospital the past four weeks due to a broken leg re ceived while on duty. . . Virgil Crawford is doing chores at the Fred Truax, jr., farm while Mr. and Mrs. Truax are at Ft. Polk, La., visiting their son, Alfred, who is ill. LYNCH— Mr. and Mrs. Har old Micanek left Tuesday, Sep tember 22, for Omaha where Harold entered a hospital. Paul ine Mulhair is staying at the Mi canek home during their ab sence. STUART—Joyce Schaffer. 7 year-old daughter of Mr. ’ and Mrs. Donald Schaffer, is a pa tient in the Ainsworth hospital. The cattle offering will include four hundred yearlings, mostly load lots, one string of 90, all carrying the same brand. Capt. George Tomlinson, Card inal halfback, scored two touch downs—one on a 70-yard gallop. Ray Donohoe crossed the Cham bers goal once. The SMA center, Mike London, caught a pass on the third play of the game to score the Cards’ initial marker. At halftime the O’Neill crew led, 14-6. Henry, a Coyote back, proved to be a rugged carrier on occasion. He scored the Coyotes’ only TD. St. Mary’s formally opens the season Friday at Spencer. Stuart Broncos Hold Valentine STUART— Football fans saw the Stuart Broncos lose, 7-18, the first game of the season when they engaged t h e Valentine Badgers here Friday night, Sep tember 18. The scoring took place in the first half when Valentine scored 18 points and Hytrek carried the ball over for Stuart and the team ran the extra point for 7 points. The Broncos held the Badgers to a low yardage and no scoring in the second half. Miss Ann Vinlon Enters Convent— Miss Ann Vint.on of St. Leo’s parish, Gordon, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Vinton, has entered the Order of the Sisters of Providence. She is a graduate of St. Mary’s academy here. She entered her freshman year of college at St. Mary of the Woods in Indiana. After completing one semester of her sophomore year, she return ed to her parents’ ranch, 35 miles southwest of Gordon, to spend several months prior to her de parture July 21 for the provi dence novitate. Loock Hogs Win at Fair— SPENCER— Frank Loock re turned Saturday, September 12, from Lincoln where he exhibited Duroc hogs at the Nebraska state fair, winning sixth place on the junior year boar. Many saw this hog here at the Boyd county fair. He was the largest boar in his class but car rying a little too much flesh to place higher. Competition was very keen as Iowa, Nebraska and Kansas breeders were well represented. Final Meeting— PAGE—The Nifty Needlers 4- | H club met Wednesday evening, September 16, with one of their honorary members, Mrs. Harry Harper, for their last meeting of the season. The leaders, Mes dames Lorenze Riege, J. O. Bal lantyne and Melvin Held were present and Mrs. Chris Sorensen, the other honorary member, was also at the meeting. At the meet ing club members closed all their records for the past year. Mrs. Harper and the leaders served lunch. Deanery Council— Meets at Butte— The O’Neill Deanery council of National Catholic Council of Women held its fall meeting at Butte on Thursday, September 17, at 2 o’clock. There were about 150 present. Plans were made to attend the state convention at Norfolk on Tuesday, October 6. Rev. Alfred S. Hoesing of Deloit was the principal speaker. WE BEG YOUR PARDON The name of Mrs. Omer Poynts of Atkinson was unintentionally omitted from the list of survivors in the obituary of Mrs. Mary Jar vis, 82, which appeared in the September 17 issue of The Fron died Tuesday, September 15, in tier. The late Mrs. Jarvis, who the Atkinson hospital, had spent the last seven months of her life at the Poynts home. Hayrack Ride— Members of the rural youth and six guests went on a hay rack ride to the Waterman place east of Page on Sunday evening. Miss Tillie Kentenholtz depart ed last Thursday for Booneville, Mo., where she will visit for 10 days. She was accompanied as far as Lincoln by Mrs. Woods of Chambers.
