Meeting called to order by the chairman. Minutes of the previous meet ing were read and approved as read. This was the time set for the Hearing on the Budget for the fiscal year 7-1-53 to 6-30-54. There were no complaints or pro tests. ^ Motion was made by Frickel seconded by Batenhorst that the following Resolution be adopted Motion .carried. RESOLUTION WHEREAS, John R. Gallagher Guardian of Helen Simar, incom petent, duly appoint®d by the County Court of Holt County, Nebraska, has filed in the Dis trict Court of Holt County, Ne braska, his'petition and applica tion for license to sell the follow ing described real estate belong ing to said incompetent, to-wit-_ Lot 14, in Block 22, in Orig inal town of O’Neill, Holt Holt County, Nebraska, for thfe reason that the cash and the personal property belonging to said incompetent, and the in come from said real estate, are insufficient -to maintain said in competent, pay taxes, and to maintkin said real estate against depreciation and it is for the benefit of said incompetent, that said real estate should be sold and the proceeds used for the maintenance and benefit of the ward, and wxiisnJSAS., tne board of su pervisors of Holt County, Nebras ka, have investigated said matter 9nd approve of such proposed sale, and deem it necessary for the best interests of said incom petent, NOW THEREFORE, be it re solved by the Board of Supervis ors of Holt County, Nebraska, that we deem such proposed sale proper and beneficial to the es tate of. said incompetent and ap prove the same and deem it ne cessary. Frickel made the following motion, seconded by Batenhorst: I move you that Holt County Board receive and consider bids of appropriate appraising agen cies for the purpose of a scientific reappraisal of all taxable real property and improvements on leased land within the County of Holt and that the Clerk is hereby directed to advertise for the re ceiving of such bids by the Coun ty Board at a Hearing on Aug. 25, 1953 at 1:30 P.M., at which time the Board shall meet and further consider the letting of a contract for the employment of such appraisers. Motion carried. Bids that had been received for painting certain rooms in the Court House were received. Mo tion was made by Frickel, second ed by Sterns, that since Harry F. Dishner appeared before the Board protesting the valua tion placed on WVfe Lot 2 and all Lot 3, Blk. 24, Original Town of O’Neill. Tne supervisors explained to him that it was too late to do anything about the matter this year so he would have to wait until next year to have the valua tion adjusted. RESOLUTION OF ADOPTION WHEREAS, a proposed county budget for the fiscal year 7-1-53 to 6-30-54, prepared by the Bud get Making Authority, was trans mitted to the County Board on the 14th day of July, 1953, and WHEREAS, a summary of such proposed budget, together with a notice of public hearing to be held on the 29th day of July, 1953, was published in the Holt County Independent, a legal newspaper, on the 23rd day of July, 1953, and WHEREAS, a public hearing was held, pursuant to said pub lished notice, on the 29th day of July, 1953, and WHEREAS, the action of the State Board of Equalization has been had and certified to the County Clerk, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Board of County Supervisors of Holt Coun ty, Nebraska Section 1. As guests entered each wrote a line of advice to the bride-to-be which was read by Miss Mont gomery before opening the gift i packages. Other entertainment j was games appropriate for the I occasion. Refreshments were served. The following committee was in charge: Mrs. Verle Gunter, Mrs. Roland Horde, Mrs. Lionel Gunt er, Mrs. Alfred Napier and Miss Arlene Ruroede. Other Ewing News Mr. and Mrs. Ed Rethwisch and daughter of Belden spent Wed nesday, August 19, visiting at the home of her mother, Mrs. Agnes Bartak. On Sunday Mrs. Agnes Bartak accompanied her son-in law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Vance Bennett, and family of Plainview to North Platte where she will visit for a week at the home of her son - in - law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Andrews, and family. A picnic supper was enjoyed at the country home of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Bohn on Monday eve ning, August 17, honoring the birthday anniversaries of the host, Mr. Bohn, also Mrs. Joe Beelaert and Mrs. Clarence Shav lik. Other guests besides the hon ored guests and their families were Mr. and Mrs. Gail Boies of Ewing. Mr. and Mrs. Louis Bebermss of Norfolk brought Mrs. Lena Kirschmier to her home in Ewing after spending the summer at Pilger with her daughter, Mrs. Wolverton, and family. The Bebernisses left Friday to visit relatives at Plainview. James Ruby, who is with the navy and stationed at Milling ton, Tenn., is spending a 10-day leave at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Everett Ruby. He was accompanied by Mrs. Ruby, Marvin and Susan. The Ruby family had a get-to gether at the country home of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Beelaert and family near Page last Thursday evening, honoring Mr. and Mrs. James Ru by and family of Millington, Tenn. A picnic supper was serv ed and the evening hours were spent informally. In attendance were Mr. and Mrs. Everett Ruby, Mr. and Mrs. William Spence and son, Lyle, the Misses Hazel Ruby and Elsie Chase, Mrs. Gene Ruby and children. Mr. and Mrs. William Spence attended the golden wedding cel ebration of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Mollencoff held Monday evening, August 17, at Norfolk. The officers of the Woman’s Society of Christian Service held a meeting Wednesday afternoon, August 19, at the home of Mrs. William Spence. Quarterly re ports by the department secre taries were made out. John Dierks and daughter, Mary, who have been guests of relatives for a few days in Ew ing, left Friday morning for their home, accompanied by his fa ther, M. H. Dierks, who will be their guest for a few weeks. Miss Rachel Jacox of Omaha, accompanied by her two nieces, Mary and Barbara Jacox, were guests on Friday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Dierks. Mrs. Lena Kirschmier, who has spent most of the summer at the home of her son-in-law and aaugmer, Mr. ana Mrs. Marion Wolverton, at Pilger, has return ed to her home in Ewing. Mrs. Rex Minshall of Lander, Wyo., came Tuesday, August 18, to accompany her mother, Mrs. May Gemmill, to Lander where she will make her home with the Minshall family until next sum mer, when she plans to return to Ewing. Among those attending the Catholic ladies’ chicken supper Sunday evening from Ewing were Mr. and Mrs. Gail Boies, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Funk and fam ily, Mrs. Lee Spittler, Mrs. John Archer and Rev. P. F. Burke. Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Owens and family, enroute to their home in Norfolk from a vacation trip to Sparks, Nev., were overnight guests at the home of Mrs. Ow ens’ mother, Mrs. Frank Noffke, sr. Other guests were Mr. and Mrs. Ed Owens of Sparks, Nev., parents of Elmer Owens. Sherry Ann Owens of Norfolk is a guest at the home of her grandmother, Mrs. Frank Noff ke, sr., and other relatives for a few days. O'NEILL LOCALS Mrs. John Conard and Miss Mary Lou Conard and Mrs. P. W. McGinnis spent Wednesday, Aug ust 19, in Nebraska City visiting Mrs. P. D. Mullen. Mrs. Claresse Sullivan went to Polk Sunday, August 16, to get her children, who had been vis iting Mr. and Mrs. Dick Woods for two weeks. Bobby and Mike Woods returned with her to visit their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. R. D. Copes, at Page and in the Harry Ressel home. Miss Jeanie Cole of Emmet left Monday evening, August 17, for Boone, la., where she visited friends.
