The board of supervisors made and passed the motion to build a bridge across Honey creek in Rock Falls precinct and also one near Stuart. E. Roy Town send was awarded the contract for his lowest bid of $6.50 per lineal foot for the Stuart bridge and $6 per foot for the Honey creek bridge. Messrs. Biglin and Simar are in sharge of construc tion in their respective districts. . . . The average yield of winter wheat for Nebraska was 16.4 bushels per acre while the aver age last year was 22 bushels. . . Con Keys, who recently sold his flour and feed busienss to D. A. Bob Pease of Emmet found a coyote in the midst of his flock of turkeys. He set chase and caught the coyote, but one of his bdst dogs was so exhausted from the chase that it died. . . D. N. Loy was painfully injur ed when he fell from a scaffold while working on the Harold Shaw ranch near Bassett. Returning from Orleans, France— BUTTE—Sgt. Allan R. Fuhrer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Herman C. Fuhrer of Bristow, is returning j to the U.S., after serving with the ! 7784th signal service company at Orleans, France. The zone is responsible for the transportation of men and sup plies from French ports to U.S. forces stationed in Germany. Its headquarters is in Orleans, France, and it maintains a base section at LaRochelle. * Sergeant Fuhrer arrived over seas in April, 1952, and was as signed as a cook. He received basic training at Ft. Riley, Kans. Before entering the army in September, 1950, Fuhrer was a farmer. Join Polled Hereford Association— M. E. and Pearl Van Dover of O’Neill have recently become members of the American Polled Hereford association. The association is devoted ex clusively to the development and promotion of polled Hereford beef cattle. At present, there are more than 9,000 members of the association throughout the United States and Canada. The Van Dovers were among 147 polled Hereford breeders from over the nation who joined the APHA during June and July. Finishes Second Year— Among 43 sophomores who were awarded honors upon com pletion of two years of college work at Washington university, St. Louis, Mo., was Weldon Bab dett Petersen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Petersen of O’Neill. Mr. Petersen is in the college of liberal arts. Mr. and Mrs. Edward Campbell returned Sunday evening from spending a three-weeks’ vacation at Green Bay, Wise., where they viisted their son, Edward. They also visited Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Froelich and family, who are va cationing at Awaffa lodge near Green Bay. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Goree and family of Grants Pass, Ore., ar rived Saturday evening to spend a week visiting friends and rel atives.
