110 Participate in Black Angus Tour One hundred and ten persons representing various communities throughout eastern Nebraska participated in the two-day tour of commercial and registered Ab erdeen-Angus farms and ranch es held over the weekend. The caravan moved out of Page at 10 a.m., Saturday and wound up at the Ray Garwood ranch at Swan lake at 4 p.m., Saturday. The affair was jointly sponsored by the Northeast Ne braska Aberdeen-Angus Breed ers’ association and the Holt County Aberdeen-Angus Breed ers’ association. A spokesman for the host group said most eastern Nebras kans were impressed with the sandhills and were thrilled with viewing large haying equipment in action. An amateur roceo sponsored by the Sand Hill Billies 4-H club in southwest Holt climaxed the event. The caravaners came from Dakota City on the east, Blair on the southeast, and DeWitt on the south. There were persons in the tour also from Colorado, South Dakota and one group from Val entine. • Frontier for printing! KNOXVILLE NEWS Frank Filip is visitixjg at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Filip, sr. He is on a 30-day leave from his air force duties, recently having been re turned from duty in Korea. Mr. and Mrs. Leo Pavlik re turned to their home in Rockford, 111., having spent a week visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ru dolph Pavlik. The Western Kr.ox Boosters 4-H club met at the home of Jackie Welch recently. Edward Vyvoda of Grand Is land came to Verdigro after his wife and two sons. They had been visiting at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Welch, at Walnut for two weeks. Recent visitors at the William Kalal home were Mr. and Mrs. C E. McCollum and children and Miss Darlene Kalal of Omaha. The McCollum children remained at the Kalal home while their parents took a trip through the Black Hills. BROTHER-IN-LAW DIES PAGE—Mrs. Elsie M. Cork left Thursday morning, July 23, for Icwa. She was called there by the death of her brother-in-law, Peter Thomson of Castana, la., who died Wednesday morning, July 22. Lloyd Cork of O’Neill, Harold Cork of Spencer and Mrs. Herbert Steinberg of Page all drove to Iowa Saturday morning. They all attended the funeral services which were held in the Ticonic Methodist church Satur day afternoon. They all returned to their homes Sunday. Wed at Spencer Miss Leta LaRee Ross became the bride of William Earl Sheldon in a pretty wedding at United Lutheran church in Spen cer at 2 p.m., Sunday, July 19. Rev. H. W. Henning officiated. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Chester Ross of Spencer; the bridegroom the son of Mrs. Millie Sheldon of Branson, Colo. A reception was held in the church basement. Following their wedding trip to Colorado and Wyoming, the Sheldons are to re side in Spencer.—O’Neill Photo Co. Milius to Address FU Picnic, Niobrara NIOBRARA—Chris Milius, state president of the Nebraska Farm ers Union, and Paul Gilbert of Lincoln, executive secretary of the Nebraska state fish and game commission, will be principal speakers at the annual Knox county Farmers Union picnic at Niobrara state park on Sunday, August 2. A picnic dinner will be held at noon followed by music by the Niobrara school band. Louis Sko kan will deliver the welcome which will be followed by music by Martha Choeholousek’s 80 piece accordian band. Also on the program will be State Patrol Lt. Harry Brt of Norfolk; Darrel Pickett, district FU director; Chris Holm, insurance demon stration, and Paul Daly of Sioux City. There will be a baseball game between Wausa and Verdigre Legion clubs. Star News Miss Mary Fetrow of O’Neill visited her friend, Kay Hibbs, the past week. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Block and son of California have been visit ing with their daughter, Mrs. R. E. Miller, and family. Mr. and Mrs. Block left Friday for their home. Mrs. Bruce Johnson called at the Ewalt Miller home Wednes day, July 22. Arnold Miller attended the young people’s meeting at Christ Lutheran church in O’Neill last Thursday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Lysle Johnson and Wyn spent Friday evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Wil bert Widholm and family. Mr. and Mrs. Ben Miller, Mr. Mrs. Roland Miller, Mr. and Mrs. Ewalt Miller and Barbara, Mrs. Bruce Johnson, Mr. and Mrs. Irven Miller, Marcella and Virgil attended the funeral services of an aunt, Mrs. Otto Miller, at Burke, S.D., on Friday afternoon. Miss Eileen Miller and Melvin Miller, who have attended sum mer school at Wayne, arrived home Friday. Both will teach this fall. Bruce and Becky, twins of Mr. and Mrs. Art Benash, spent Sun day with Mr. and Mrs. Bill Hibbs and family, while their parents attended the Angus tour in southwestern Holt county. Ewalt Miller was at the Ger ald Waring home Saturday. A special meeting of the Steel Creek 4-H club was held Wed nesday evening, July 22, at the Gibson school. Slide and moving pictures were shown by Neil Dawes. Lunch was served. Mr. and Mrs. Ewalt Miller and Barbara visited with Mrs. Hulda Miller and daughters on Friday evening. Miss Claryce Johnson of O’ Neill spent Wednesday evening, July 22, with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Johnson. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Tomlinson and son are vacationing in the Black Hills. They have a daugh ter, Mrs. Earl Stevens, and fam ily living there. On Monday, July 13, Mrs. Lysle Johnson, Mrs. Nels Lin quist, Mrs. Fred Timmerman, Mrs. William Derickson, Mrs. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Hibbs and family and Bruce and Becky Benash called at the Ewalt Miller home Sunday afternoon. Albert Derickson, Mrs. Edward Tharnish, Mrs. Elmer Juracek, Mrs. Bill Hibbs and Mrs. Ewalt Miller attended the neighbor la dy’s picnic at the Niobrara state park with a picnic lunch at 1 o’ clock and a program in the after noon. Mr. and Mrs. Ewalt Miller and Barbara, Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Boelter and Allen, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Boelter and Jimmie, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Boelter, Vernon and Merle, Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Waring, Willis and Arlee spent Tuesday evening, July 14, at the home of Mrs. Hattie Boelter to honor her on her birthday anni versary. Barbara Miller spent Monday afternoon, July 13, with Kay and Roddy Hibbs. t Thomas Liddy New CPPD Accountant According to C. E. A. Johnson, O’Neill district manager for Con sumers Public Power district, Thomas L. Liddy, formerly the billing and tabulating department supervisor from Consumers gen eral office, has been appointed O’Neill district accountant, re placing Harold Peterson who re signed. Mr. Liddy’s appointment is effective immediately. Born here in O’Neill. Mr. Liddy graduated from the O’Neill high school in 1933. Mr. Liddy’s utility experience dated from 1934 when he was employed as cashier and storekeeper, toy old Interstate Power company here in O’Neill. Mr. Liddy was employed by Con sumers Public Power district in 1942 as storekeeper for the dis trict in Columbus. He was pro moted to his former position of billing and tabulating supervisor for Consumers general office in 1945. Mr. and Mrs. Liddy have three children—Judy, 14, Michael, 13, and Tanya, 6. Mrs. Liddy is the former Iris Pharris of Long Pine. Mr. and Mrs. Liddy and family will make their residence here in O’Neill as soon as they can obtain suitable living quarters. Marks Anniversary— Miss Shirley Ross was guest of honor on her 17th birthday anniversary at a picnic in Ford’s park. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. Charles Richter and fam ily, Mrs. Bridget Swanson, Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Miller and family, Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Ross and family, Mrs. Ross and Clarence Ross. O’Neill News Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Briggs of Bartlett were Saturday overnight guests of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Manson. C. W. Trobaugh of Atkinson called on the J. E. Murphy’s Mon day. Mr. and Mrs. David Upp were weekend guests of Mrs. John C. Gallagher. They had just return ed from their honeymoon at Lake Kronis, Minn. Mrs. Upp is the former Mary Ann Gallagher. Mrs. Robert Kurtz and family returned Friday from Hastings where they have been visiting Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Brown. Mr. and Mrs. Manuel Crosser and son of Neligh and Mrs. F. S. Brittell and daughters were Sun day visitors of Mr. and Mrs. Merle Sparks. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Simpson and Mr. and. Mrs. John Gilstrap went to Sioux City on business Friday. Mrs. Dorothy Socha was called to Lincoln Sunday, July 19. by the illness of her friend, Mrs. Lloyd Simmons, who was at St. Elizabeth’s hospital. Mrs. Socha returned the following day. Mrs. Lillian Marne of Ute, la., and Mr. and Mrs. Clair Marne of Mapleton, la., visited at the R. H. Shriner home from Tuesday, July 21, until the following Friday. Mrs. Lillian Marne and Mrs. Shriner are sisters. Stanley Walker of Pine Ridge, S. D., called on Curley Washechek Monday.
