P. JaszkowiaK, 2-1, in the championship flight title match late Monday. Qualifying matches were play ed Saturday and the competition in four flights began Sunday morning, grinding through Sun day and Monday. The weather man smiled on the tourney, al though there were threatening rain clouds Monday afternoon. The new champ's father. Chris Mortensen. 68, also from Albion won top honors in the second flight, and a flyweight 14-year-old O'Neill youth. Wan Kaiser, served notice that he would be an important factor in forthcoming tourneys by breezing through to the title in the third flight. Although O’Neill golfers pre dominated in the field of u4, young Kaiser was the only O’ Neillite to win a flight. James Clifton of Orchard won top hon ors in the first flight. M. J. Golden, O’Neill hotel man who was the defending champion, was ousted in first round play in the championship flight by Thomas Hagerty of Phoenix, Ariz. Hagerty then was eliminated by John McCarthy of Scottsbluff. Mortensen bounced Edward Campbell, jr., of Green Bay Wise., in first round play, spanked Jim Burke of Ainsworth in the second, McCarthy in the third, and Jaskowiak in the fi nals. Jaskowiak gained the finals by defeating Sid Salzman of Ains worth, Gaile Whitney of Ains worth and Henry Lohaus of O’ Neill, in that order. Semifinalists were Jaszkow iak-Lohaus and Mortensen-Mc Carthy. Golden won consolation play in the championship flight. Clifton knocked off James Queensberry of Ainsworth. O. I). French of O’Neill, Robert Carroll of O’Neill and Dr. Paul Williams of Decatur, in that order. The elder Mr. Mortensen, who has been golfing 40 years, grab bed a few catnaps between matches with Harold Petersen of O’Neill, Lloyd Cork of O’Neill.
