May 7, 1953) NOTICE OF ADOPTION OF BOND ELECTION FOR PARK IMPROVEMENT BONDS AND BONDS FOR CONSTRUCTION OF SWIMMING POOL You are hereby notified that at the Special Election of the City of O’Neill, Nebraska, duly | held in the manner provided by law, on the 29th day of April, 1953, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. at the usual voting places, in the various wards of said City, the follow ing propositions were presented to the electors of said city, to wit:» Proposition One. “Shall the City of O’Neill, Ne braska, issue its negotiable bonds of the principal amount of Thir ty - five Thousand Dollars ($35000.00) for the purpose of im proving land owned by the City for a park and public grounds, said bonds to be dated at the time of their issuance and be come due after their date as fol lows: $4000.00 in 1954; $4000.00 in 1955; $4000.00 in 1956; $4000.00 in 1957; $4000.00 in 1958; $4000.00 in 1959; $4000.00 in 1960; $4000.00 in 1961, and $3000.00 in 1962; provided however, any or all of said bonds shall be redeemable at the option of the City at any time on or after five years from their date; said bonds shall bear interest at a rate not exceeding 3>/4 per centum per annum, pay able one year after date and semi - annually thereafter, and, Shall the Mayor and Council of the City cause to be levied and collected annually a tax by val uation on all of the taxable property in the City sufficient to pay the interest and principal of said bonds as and when such in terest and principal become due. Boyle, former River side club member who was home on a 10-day furlough, left for Seattle, Wash., on Thursday, May 7. He was honored guest at a party at the IOOF hall in Inman the previous Friday. Sunday, May 10, Miss Cath erine Boyle and pupils had their school picnic. Most of the mem bers of the club attended. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Van Horn and Eunice, Mrs. John Vitt, Mary Frances, and Dorothea attended a meeting of the Inman Victory boys and girls on Monday, May li. Smith Speaks to Stuart Graduates ‘Honesty, Courage and Faith Needed* (Class pholo above) STUART—“A Silver Thread” was the title of the commence ment address given by H. A. Smith of the University of Ne braska when he spoke to a large crowd here on Thursday night, May 14. As a thread is spun of many fibers, so is personal integrity made up of honesty, courage, dependability and faith. Th s was the thought conveyed by Mr. Smith’s address. The stage of the auditorium, where the seniors were seated, was decorated with the class col ors of cerise and silver and their motto, “With the ropes of the past we will ring the bells of the future.” The commencement program included the processional played by Henrietta Coats; invocation, by Rev. D. D. Su, pastor of the Community church; salutator ian’s speech, by Don Fuller; vo cal solo, by Esther Gans; vale dictorian’s speech, by James Nelson; address by Mr. Smith; vocal solo, by Marge Chaney; presentation of scholarship awards, by Supt. M. J. Baack as follows: Don Fuller received a board of regents scholarship to the University of Nebraska, state normal scholarship and the boys’ citizenship award; James Nelson received the church school scholarship; Melvin Krysl re ceived the scholarship to Nor folk junior college; Esther Gans, a scholarship to Nebraska beau ty school, Omaha; Fred Schafer, athletic award, and Opal Rad cliff, girls’ citizenship award. Presentation of diplomas by Norris Coats followed. The 19 graduates are Velma Bolen, Jean Boyens, Marcia Bigelow, Norma Cadwallader, Marge Chanev, Donald Fuller, Esther Gans, Jim Hoffman, Melvin Krysl, Leona McNair, Ruth Nachtman, James Nelson, Eugene Norton, Opal Radcliff, Fred Schafer, Shirley Shald, Corrine Sweet, Lois Thur > low and Evelyn Weichman. Presentation of eighth grade diplomas by Mr. Coats was made to Kenneth Coats, Leola Clem ents, Jacqueline King, Donald Moses, Richard Norton, Lorretta Papke, Shirley Ready, Doreen Shattuck, Twila Smith, Bert Straka and Karen Van Cleave. Benediction was offered by Rev. A. J. Paschang, pastor of St. Boniface Catholic church, and the recessional was played by Henrietta Coats. Donald Fuller, son of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Fuller, was saluta torian of the 1953 class. He was a member of the student council and has been in band three years. He also has taken part in dramatics. James Nelson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Nelson, was vale dictorian. He was president of the student council, has been in the school band three years, played basketball four years, has taken part in dramatics and been on the Wrangler staff. *>.« X. . • ; Mrs. Ed Wayman _ New President The WSCS met last Thursday in the Methodist church with 47 members present. Guests were from Spencer and Bristow with their pastor, Rev. Margery John son. New members for the coming year were recognized and the new officers were installed. Mrs. Ralph Leidy was presented a past-president’s pin. Mrs. Ed Wayman was installed as the new president. Special music was furnished by Mrs. Reed Herley, who played a piano solo, and Mrs. Grant Pea cock. who sang a vocal selection. Mrs. Chester Wilcox Presented Gilt— PAGE — The Page Iirtprow ment club met Monday evening. May 11, at the home of Mrs. Harry Harper with 16 members answering roll call. This was the last meeting of the year. All old business was settled and new of ficers were elected. Chosen were Mrs. Otto Matschullat, president; Mrs. Ralph Brostrom, vice-pres ident; Mrs. Ray Snell, secretary; Mrs. Arnold Stewart, treasurer. Mrs. Chester Wilcox was pre sented a parting gift by the club. The club has purchased one hun dred place settings of silver and has paid for five new tables to be used at banquets and other gatherings. They were built by Anton Nissen and Melvin Roach and were painted by Mrs. Roach. The first project for the new year is to paint the theater front. The next meeting will be a breakfast in the park on June 8. Each member is to invite a guest. At that time the new officers will be installed. A covered dish lunch was served at the close of the meeting. Mrs. W. B. Smith and Mrs. Clay Johnson, jr., attended a WSCS meeting in Grand Island Saturday evening. They returned Sunday morning.
