Cronk, Clark, Batenhorst, Hubbard, and War ing present. Meeting called to order by the chairman. Motion was made by Baten horst, seconded by Clark that the following Resolution be adopted. RESOLUTION Whereas the United States Air Force, Cambridge Research Center, is currently conducting research operations near O’Neill in Holt County, Nebraska, which of necessity requires dustproof ing of a portion of a County Road commencing at the North east comer of Section 29, in Township 29, North, Range 11, West of the 6th P. M. in Holt County, Nebraska, running thence North a distance of two miles, thence running East a direction and distance of three and one-half miles, which said County Road is under the juris diction of the County of Holt, Nebraska, now therefore i n order to assist in accomplishing the purpose of such experiment and research, IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED by the Board of Supervisors of the County of Holt and State of Nebraska, that the United States Air Force, Cambridge Research Center, ♦V»rmi rrVi onH tiv ite 1 A W ’f 15 1 representatives and agencies is hetrebiy autrorized and granted permission to dustproof and condition the surface of the above described portion o f County Road in said County for a period of six months or more from this date by the applica tion of such chemical agents, oil or compounds as it may see fit upon the surface of the same from time to time as necessity may require, at the sole expense of the United States Air Force, and under their direction and control. Provided however that said road shall at all time re main open for public travel, and no permanent injury to said road shall be caused. May 23 Proclaimed as Poppy Day Here Saturday, May 23, has been designated as poppy day in O'Neill by proclamation of Mayor J. E. Davis. The drive is sponsored by Simonson unit 93 of the Am erican Legion auxiliary, of which Mrs. Axel Borg is pres ident. Mrs. Dean Streeter is poppy chairman. “Millions of Americans will pay tribute to the nation’s war dead by wearing memorial poppies. There is a story be hind each poppy,” explains Mrs. Streeter. “They are made by hand by disabled war vet erans, and are to be worn in honor of our war dead.” Completes Course in Chemical Training— ATKINSON — Pvt. Roger B. Holmes, son of Mr. and Mrs. Rol land Holmes of Atkinson, re cently completed a course in chemical warfare at the Eta Jima specialist school in Japan. The two-week course is de signed to teach defense against chemical, bacteriological and ra diological warfare. Holmes, a military policeman, entered the army in September, 1952, and arrived overseas in March, 1953. He received basic training at Camp Gordon. Ga. Before entering the army, Private Holmes graduated from Snyder high school at Snyder and was employed as a lineman by the Northwestern Bell Tele phone company. A. Townsend was hostess to the Just-a-Mere club at a 2:30 dessert luncheon Friday afternoon. Seven members were present. The afternoon was spent ' informally. Mrs. Alton Braddock enter tained the Contract Bridge club last Thursday evening. Mrs. Robert Gray won high score prize; Mrs. John Lamason, trav eling, and Mrs. C. E. Walker, low. Luncheon was served by the hostess. Tlie Band Mothers club held the last meeting of the year on Wednesday afternoon, May 6, at the school. The next meeting will be the first Wednesday in September. New officers will be elected at that time. Bishop H. Bascom Watts of Lincoln and Rev. J. LaVeme Jay of O’Neill called on Rev. C. E. Wilcox and inspected the Meth odist church Friday afternoon. In the evening the Wilcox fam ily drove to Neligh to attend services conducted by Bishop Watts. Mrs. Clara Waterman and Ar thur and Fern spent last Thurs day evening in Osmond visiting Mrs. Waterman’s mother, Mrs. Lizzie Phenstiel. Sunday dinner guests in the William Neubauer home were Misses Grace and Nelle Wood, Miss Maude Martin, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Sterner and Mr. and Mrs. Leo Neubauer. Leo Neubauer, who has been stationed at San Diego, Calif., came Friday morning to spend a 14-day leave with his wife and parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Neubauer. He will return to San Diego. Mr. and Mrs. Russel Johnson and Mrs. Emma Morris of Fre mont came last Thursday to vis it the latter’s sons, Paul Neu bauer and William Neubauer, and Mrs. William Neubauer. Mrs. Johnson is the men’s sister. They returned home Friday. Mr. and Mrs. M. G. French and Mr. and Mrs. Neven Ickes drove to Cascade last Thursday to at tend the mother-father program presented at the school taught by their daughter, Miss Sybil Ickes. Enroute home Friday they visited with Mr. and Mrs. Roy Snyder at Ainsworth. Mr. and Mrs. William Sorensen and family drove to Ainsworth Sunday and spent the day with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Kennedy. They were accompan ied as far as Long Pine by Mr. and Mrs. Soren Sorensen, sr., who spent the day with their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Connery. Mrs. Fred Walker and Mrs. Bill McDonald of Norfolk spent Tuesday with Mrs. Walker’s sis ter, Mrs. Jerome Allen, and family. Mr. Walker and Mr. Mc Donald are members of the Nor folk junior college faculty. They spent the day talking to high school seniors at Page, Ewing and O’Neill. Mr. and Mrs. Otto Terrill spent several days the forepart of last week at Hot Springs, S.D., where they visited their son, Gene Terrill, and family. Mrs. Grace Edson and Mr. and Mrs. Donald Allen and family of Lynch were Sunday dinner guests at the Melvin Held home. In the afternoon Mrs. Errol Held and son of O’Neill were visitors. Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Held vis ited his mother, Mrs. Lewis Held, at Venus Friday evening. Sunday dinner guests at the Rollie Snell home were Mrs. Snell’s nieces, Mrs. Myrtle Blair of Sutherland, la., and Mrs. Ray Kruel, and Mr. Kruel, of Poca hontas, la, and Mrs. Snell’s sis ter-in-law, Mrs. Louis Julius of Meriden, la. Another guest was Eldon Henderson of Meriden, la. Mrs. Harvey Cullen helped her mother prepare the dinner. Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Parson of Miltonvale, Kans., came Satur day evening to spend the week end with Mrs. Parson’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Otto Terrill. Mr. Parson returned home Sunday evening and Mrs. Parson will spend a week here. Mr. and Mrs. Gene Terrill and came Saturday evening to spend daughter of Hot Springs, S.D., a few days with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Otto Terrill, and to be present at the graduating exercises of his brother, Jerry Terrill. 3 Mrs. Alma Tegeler and Mrs. Celia Terrill spent mother’s day at the Otto Terrill home. Mr. and Mrs. Pete Mizner and family of Bassett came Saturday and spent the weekend with Mrs. Mizner’s mother, Mrs. Cla ra Waterman. Clausen Gets Supply Post in Germany-r ORCHARD—Army Pfc. Allen R. Clausen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry F. Clausen of Orchard, recently graduated from the Sec ond armored division’s ordnance parts supply clerk school in Ger many. The three-week course was conducted by the 124th armored ordnance and maintenance bat talion at Baumholder. Clausen, a parts clerk in the 43d armored infantry battalion’s company D, entered the army in April, 1953. He was formerly sta ! tioned at Camp Breckenridge, Ky. Band to Ewing— PAGE—The Page school band members went to Ewing Friday afternoon where they spent the afternoon practicing with the members from the Chambers, Clearwater, Ewing, Oakdale and Meadow Grove bands. In the evening they partici pated in a mass band concert consisting of 164 musicians. Spencer Soldier's Unit Gets Citation— SPENCER—Army Pvt. Vemoo D. Wells, son of Mr. and Mrs. W H. Wells of Spencer, is a mem ber of the Second rocket field artillery battery, recently award ed the distinguished unit citation in Korea. The battery, attached to IX corps, was cited for its outstand ing action in support of UW troops last fall during the battle of White Horse mountain on the central front.
