ing. . . Miss Mary Lou Conard,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John
Conard, underwent an appendi
citis operation last Thursday at
St. Anthony’s hospital, O’Neill.
Her condition is “good.”

weeks, submitted to major sur
gery Friday in the Methodist
hospital. Mrs. Tompkins also is a
patient in the Methodist hospi
tal. . . Mrs. W. C. Kelley is on
the sick list.
CELIA—Herman Frickel and
sister, Mrs. LeRoy Hoffman,
took their father, Conrad Frick
el, to Lutheran hospital, Sioux
City, Saturday. Stanley Fuller
ton is doing the work at the
Conrad Frickel home. Herman
Frickel and Mrs. Hoffman re
turned home Sunday afternoon.
AMELIA—Mrs. Arthur Hiatt
has been a patient in St.
Anthony’s hospital in O’Neill.
She submitted to major surgery
Monday, April 13. . . Bob Adair
went to Grand Island Friday
where he entered the veterans’
hospital for medical care.
CHAMBERS — L. W. Taggart
became ill while attending a
party in O’Neill Sunday eve
ning. He was taken to St. An
thony’s hospital by ambulance.
It is thought he suffered a slight
stroke.
EWING—Mrs. Carol Summtr
er submitted to a tonsilectomy
at St Anthony’s hospital on
Monday.
Cardinals Win
Triangular Meet
Coach Joe George’s St Mary’s
academy Cardinals won a tri
angular meet at Stuart with In
man making up the third school.
SMA racked up 66 points; Stu
art, 54; Inman, 16.
Ray Donohoe, SMA freshman,
won the 220-yard dash, the 180
low hurdles, and tied for first in
the 100-yard dash.
Mike London, SMA junior,
took first in the high jump, first
in the broad jump, first in the
120 high hurdles, second in the
pole vault, and third in the low
hurdles.
Jerry Wanser, the only sen
ior on the Card team, tied for
first in the 100-yard dash, placed
second in the 220-yard sprint
and anchored the SMA winning
880 relay team.
George Tomlinson, junior, won
the shot, finished second in the
discus, second in the high jump,
and third in the 440-yard dash.
Boys from SMA who made the
trip were Duane Weier, Benny
Bazelman, Dick Graham, Tom
Head, John Connot, Matt Hynes
and Terry Donlin.
Coach George expects a hot
mile in the Holt county track
| meet, which will be held at Stu
art today (Thursday). Carroll of
O’Neill high and Kelly of Inman
will provide the contest. Kelly
placed third in the mile at Ord’s
invitational last week.

STUART— Today (Thursday)
is the date set for the annual
Holt county high school track and
field meet. It will be held at the
Stuart high school athletic field.
Application blanks have been
sent to nine Holt county schools
and a large turnout is expected
for the event, according to the
meet director, Lawrence Retz
laff.

Rev. W. H. Clem of Leigh came
to Page Thursday to visit his
daughter, Mrs. Walter Hunt, and
family and to help her celebrate
her birthday anniversary. Walter
Hunt, jr., who had remained with
his grandparents when Mr. and
Mrs. Hunt spent the previous
weekend there, returned home at
this time. Mr. Clem returned to
his home Friday.
Mrs. Neven Ickes, sr., and Mrs.
William Neubauer were hostesses
Thursday when the WSCS met
in the church parlors. Twenty
three were present. Mrs. J. R.
Russell led the devotions and gave
! the lesson. Mrs. Elmer Trowbridge
! conducted the business meeting.
Mrs. Edgar Stauffer was present
ed her life membership pin. The
afternoon was spent quilting. The
society voted to pay $100 on the
church budget.
The American Legion Auxiliary
met with Mrs. Walter Hunt Mon
day evening for the April session.
Seventeen members answered roll
call. The vice president, Mrs. An
ton Nissen conducted the busi
ness meeting in absence of the
president, Mrs. R. D. Copes. Com
mittees and menu for the alumni
banquet were the main topics of
discussion. Four new members
were initiated: Mrs. Don Nissen,
Mrs. Harold Asher, Mrs. Calvin
Harvey and Mrs. William Sim
mons. Mrs. Hu.it served luncheon
at the close of the meeting. The
next meeting will be May 11 at
the Legion hall.
Mr. and Mrs. Merwyn French
entertained about 30 guests on
Sunday evening in observance oi
their 30th wedding anniversary.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Wegman
and Mrs. J. O. Ballantyne
went to Brunswick Tuesday
where they attended the funeral
; for Alex Jensen.
The 4G’s club met with Mrs
Clarr-ence Stevens Friday after

in Lincoln. Miss Judy Trow
bridge returned with them Sun
day. She had visited Jerry
Summer at Ft. Riley Kans.

Ruth and Mrs. Anna Thompson
spent Sunday at the Wilber Smith
home near Atkinson.
Mrs. Herbert Steinberg was
hostess to the HOA club Tuesday.
Eight members answered roll call.
The afternoon was spent doing
needlework followed by luncheon.
The next meeting will be with
Mrs. Harry Van Horn April 28.
Mi. and Mrs. Clarence Stew
art were Friday evening dinner
guests of Mrs. Anna Thompson.
Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Wright
and family of Los Angeles, Calif.,
arrived here Saturday evening to
visit their parents. Mrs. Wright
is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Robert Harvey. Mr. Wright’s
father, who was ill, died Sunday.
The Get-Together club met at
the Otto Matschullat home Friday
evening for the annual family
get-together. Twenty six adults
and nine children were present.
Cards furnished recreation for the
evening. A delicious nohost lunch
was served at a late hour.
Donald Eickhoff, who has been
here visiting his parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Henry Eickhoff, left
Friday for Kansas City, Mo.,
where he is stationed.
Dinner guests Sunday at the
Otto Matschullat home Sunday
included Mr. and Mrs. Albert
Anthony and children of Bloom
field and Mr. and Mrs. Dale Mat
schullat and son.
Mr. and Mrs. Rollie Snell
spent a few days visiting at
Stuart in the home of her sister,
Mrs. Alta Lockman.
Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Stewart
spent Sunday with their daugh
ter, Mrs. Elmer Juracek and
family near Star.
Mr. and Mrs. Allen Haynes
went to Q’Neill Sunday after
noon to spend a few days in the
Lawrence Haynes home while
Mr. and-Mrs. Haynes are in Oma
ha where he will receive medical
treatment.

ed in marriage with Henry
Bohnet. son of Mr. and Mrs.
John Bohnet of Naper, on Fri
day, April 17, at 2 p.m.
The single-ring ceremony was
performed by Rev. R. W. Olsen
of O’Neill in the Immanuel Luth
eran church at Atkinson.
The bride, given in marriage
by her father, wore a gown of
white lace and net over satin.
Her finger-tip veil was edged
with chantilly lace and she wore
a two-strand pearl necklace, a
gift of the groom.
She carried a bridal bouquet of
red roses with white streamers.
Miss Elaine Hangemann, sis
ter of the bride, as bridesmaid
appeared in a gown of powder
blue face and net over taffeta.
She wore a matching bonnet and
carried a bouquet of yellow
roses.
The bridegroom wore his army
uniform and Wilmer Bohnet who
served his brother as bestman
wore a navy blue suit.
A reception was held at the
home of the bride’s parents in
Stuart following the ceremony.
The three-tier wedding cake
topped with a minature bride
and bridegroom was baked by
Mrs. Johnnie Graves, sister of
the bridegroom.
Mr. and Mrs. Bohnet will take
a short trip to Missouri before
he reports back to camp at Kan
sas City. From there he will go to
Washington.
Out-of-town guests included
Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Bruns, grand
parents of the bride,Mrs. Irma
Redd and Harry R. Smith of O’
Neill, Mrs. Ernest Rudolf of Pal

A/3c James DeBacker arrived
home Sunday evening to spend
a weeks furlough with his par
ents, Mr. and Mrs. G. C. DeBack
er. Airman DeBacker is enroute
to an air base at Cheyenne,
Wyo., where he has been trans
ferred to attend a school. He
was formerly stationed at Lake
Charles, La.

Miss Ardella Jensen, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Andy Jensen and
Archie Brandt. The wedding was
at 2 o’clock in the Methodist
church. The Jensen’s lived on a
farm east of Page at one time.
Kilty Clover Meets
at Asher Home—
The Kitty Clover 4-H club met
Friday afternoon in the home
of Donna Asher. The members
sang two songs and held two
separate business meetings
which were called to order by
the president.
Those in the sewing group
judged material to be used for
work and play clothes and also
discussed the kind of outfit they
will make.
Those in the baking group
judged baking sheets and had a
discussion on the measuring and
leveling of ingredients.
Games were played and a lunch
was served by Donna.
The next meeting will be at
the home of Alta Lyons on April
24. Marge Marcellus and Kath
leen Brady will give a demon
stration on Jiow to make muffins
