They returned to Salina Monday. Mrs. H. S. Harper had charge of the devotions and lesson last Thursday when the WSCS met in the Methodist church parlors. The Royal Neighbor lodge held its annual family no-host supper Wednesday evening, April 1, in the IOOF hall. Twenty-two fam ilies were represented with a to tal of 56 present, three of whom were guests. Combined Meet— A combined club meeting of the Delta-Dek and Martez clubs was held Tuesday evening with Mrs. Ed Gallagher as hostess. The group met at the Town House for dinner and the evening was spent playing cards. The winners were Mrs. Frank Froelich, Mrs. C.J. Gatz and Mrs. Ira Moss. > Annual Luncheon— The annual nohostess luncheon of the Merri-Myx club was held Tuesday afternoon at 1 o’clock in the home of Mrs. C. W. Porter. Of the afternoon’s card playing, the winners were Mrs. John Osen baugh and Mrs. A. B. Hubbard. Mrs. Cora Brood of Winside was a guest, Buzzin' Dozen Gathers— The Buzzin’ Dozen club held a session Tuesday evening at the home of Mrs. Milford Coats. The evening was spent playing pin ochle. Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Spry and sons of Ralston, spent the weekend visiting Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Spry and other relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Joseph George, jr., spent Sunday at the home of his brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. John Auman, at Orchard. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Eby and Miss Sharon Hancock were Easter guests in the home of Mrs. Alma Eby at Ainsworth. Refreshments will be served. 49c Mr. and Mrs. John Neyens of Creighton spent Sunday in the home of their grandson, Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Muller. I Rites at Atkinson for Fire Victim Melvin Steskal, 24, Burial in Wood Lawn ATKINSON—Funeral services for Melvin Steskal, 24-year-old Inman 'farmer who was fatally burned on March 18, were con ducted Saturday, March 21, at St. John's Lutheran church in Atkinson. Mr. Steskal died about four hours following an explosion of a fuel oil can in his home, south east of Inman. The dwelling and contents were completely de stroyed. He died in St. Anthony's hospital, O'Neill. His wife, Gladys, and two children, Don na Rae, 2Vi. and Marvin Lyle, IVa. were also taken to the hos pital. Mrs. Steskal, who suffered se vere shoulder burns, was releas ed last week and is now at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Wright, at Ewing. Also burned was Junior Are hart of Elgin, who had been vis iting at the Steskal home. His burns were treated at O’Neill. Rev. R. W. Olson of O’Neill officiated in the Steskal rites and burial was in Wood Lawn ceme tery, Atkinson. Hymns were sung by Miss Sylvia Rohrs, Mrs. Her m a n Schrader, jr., Rudolph Poessnecker and Ottmar Poess necker with Mrs. Poessnecker as accompanist. Pallbearers were James Walnofer, Robert Wal nofer, Kenneth Arehart, La moyne Mummert, Harold Ben nett and Roger Bennett. Melvin Lyle Steskal was born at Clearwater at the home of his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Al bert Hauser, and later lived on a farm with his parents north east of Atkinson until 1940, when they moved to Inman, where he resided most of his life. He was graduated from Ew ing high school in 1947 an4 in 1949 he enlisted in the army in which he served one year. He was married to Gladys Wright of Ewing on December 2, 1949. To them were bom two children. Survivors include: Widow — Gladys; daughter—Donna Rae; son—Marvin Lyle; parents—Mr and Mrs. John Steskal; brothers —John, jr., and Clifford Leroy, at home; sister—Mrs. Jack (Na dene) Charvat of Omaha; grand parents—Mr. and Mrs. Ed Steskal of Atkinson and Mr. and Mrs. Albert Hauser of Elgin; many aunts and uncles. It was decided upon to pur chase a film strip set on flag etti quet to be alternated among all the schools throughout the coun ty. Mrs. James Mullen won the door priae. An Easter gift was sent to the unit’s hospitalized nurse, Nellie Mae Honey, at Bay Pines, Fla. The new hospital auxiliary | representatives will be Mrs. Mary Harrington and Mrs. Flor ence Schultz. The 120-cup coffeemaker which is being purchased by the unit from the sale of vanilla was pre sented. Wreaths will be purchased and placed on the veterans’ graves for memorial day. There will be a meeting of the executive board at the Legion hall lounge on Wednesday eve ning, April 8, at 8 b’clock. DRINKS KEROSENE ' LYNCH — Little Marilyn Ko lund accidently drank kerosene Monday, March 30, while she was visiting at the Dick Court ney home, Sh? spent the night at the hospital and showed no ill effects from the kerosene. Group Spelling Contests Friday Fourteen group spelling con tests will be held at various schools over the county Friday, April 10, 1 p.m. The winners from grades 3 to 8 in each group contest will be eligible to enter the county contest to be held in O’Neill April 25, 1 p.m. These spelling contests are be ing sponsored by the Holt Coun ty Rural Teacners association. Prizes will be given the winner in each grade at the county con test. Coming events include: April 15: Holt county rural teachers’ meeting at district 165; teacher, Shirley Rieck, 7:30 p.m. April 27-30: Eighth grade ex aminations.
