Discuss Religion Life of New Officials— EWING—The men’s club of the United Presbyterian church met last Thursday evening ai the annex. Rev. W. J. Bomer opened the meeting with a devotional period which was followed by a short business session conducted by the president, Wilbur Bennett. On adjournment, a program follow ed which consisted of a discus sion on the new government of ficials in relation to religion and spiritual life. Letter from Omaha a Storm Casualty Note from Germany Is Swifter o CELIA—A letter from Omaha postmarked February 18 appears to have been a casualty of the big storm two weeks ago. Ope day this week Mrs. Lee Terwilliger received two letters inothe same mail. One was post marked ° February 18c mailed from Omaha; the other was post marked February 0 20, mailed from Hamburg, Germany. While train and mail service was disrupted in the snow belt, the Hamburg letter overtook the Omaha letter and they waltzed into the mailbox together. Other Celia News Mary Disterhaupt spent a few days the past week visiting her sister, Mrs. Perry Terwilliger, and family. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Dobias and family were Sunday visitors at the D. F. Scott home. Mrs. Gene Livingston returned home with them so she would be near er to the school she teaches. Several from this community attended the funeral of David Michael Lauridsen, 14-months old baby son of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Lauridsen at the Presby terian church Thursday after noon, February 26. Burial was in Wooalawn cemetery. He is sur vived by his parents; brother— Duane; sister—Linda. Pallbearers were Paul and Bill Focken, Ron nie Frickel and Paul Payas. They ex pected to return to school Sun day but Sunday’s snow storrft prevented their leaving the ranch. Robert Hendricks took the tractor and planned to pull the car through the snow where it was needed until highway 11 was reached (about five miles distant), but didn’t get over three-fourths of a mile from home until the tractor vras Stuck and they had to walk home. The Blues an nexed win No. 17 by a 55-49 de cision. Baker’s kids have lost three games—having met single reversals at the hands of each Ainsworth,. Plainview and Al bion. Gordon, Bassett guard, turned in the best individual perform ance with a rousing 25-point to tal. Larry Chace with 13, Davey Eby with 12 and Bob Carroll with 11 paced the O’Neill offen sive. Bassett led 11-9 at the first quarter mark and O'Neill mov ed ahead 24-21 at halftime. The Eagles led 37-32 at the end of the third. Baker’s kids woundup their regular schedule by amassing 1,027 points compared to 776 for their opponents. The varsity triumph over Bas sett gave the Blues undisputed hold on the North-Central Ne braska conference crown. Baker’s kids earlier captured the North Central conference tourney, which was staged at Bassett. O Neill seconds won a prelim, 33-34, over the Bassett reserves. It was a going-away party for Pvt. Robert Montgom ery, who has spent a 14-day fur lough with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Montgomery, and a housewarming for his brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Lorraine Montgomery, and sons, who recently moved to the How ard Montgomery farm to make their home. There were 35 rela tives and friends in attendance. Mr.c and Mrs. George Mont gomery took their son, Pvt. Rob ert Montgomery, to Grand Island on Friday where he left for a camp in California from which he will soon be sent pverseas.
