Medcalf with 17 members present. It was voted to sponsor an es say contest among the pupils of both the junior and senior high schools. A prize of $3 will be given for the best essay and $1.50 for the second best on the sub ject: “A Citizen’s Responsibility.” It was decided to purchase several books, entitled “The Key to Peace,” to' use in the school. Plans were discussed for organiz ing for civil defense. A delegate* and alternate were elected to at tend the midwinter conference to b held in Grand Island February 21-22. Refreshments of pie-ala-mode and coffee were served by Mrs. George Cameron, Mrs. Genevieve Bell and Mrs. Ruben Peltzer. Lynch News — Mrs. Robert Kersch and baby spent Monday, February 2, at the parental Lloyd Mills home near Bristow. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Spencer returned to their home in Rapid City, S.D., Wednesday, February 4, after a 10-day stay with rela tives here and at Spencer. Byron Lower of Verdel was a business visitor here Saturday. Charles Mulhair spent several days last week at the Ray Mul hair home in Battle Creek. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Nabar and family, a REA family, moved to O’Neill on Monday. Wallace Courtney was in Sioux City Monday and Tuesday. The Ralph Fredrichs family is leaving for the West coast this week where they plan to make their future home. The Fredrichs have been farming west of town. Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Wells and family were Holt county vis itors on Sunday. William Teadtke and William Stauffer were business visitors in Butte on Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. L. Placek were business visitors in Pickstown, 5. D., Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Albert Peed of Verdel were Lynch visitors Sun day. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Ducker and family visited relatives in Verdel Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Hajek and family were recent visitors with relatives south of Verdel. Mrs. Ward Barnes of Naper was a visitor at the Guy Barnes home on Thursday. Mrs. John Hanzlik was hos tess to the Altar society last Thursday afternoon, February 5, with Mesdames Don Allen and Frank Weeder cohostesses. After the business meeting games were played with Margaret Stenger, Ed na Courtney and Audrey Birmeier er winning prizes. A lunch was served late in the afternoon. The next meeting will be held at the Ed Heiser home with Mesdames Earl Rosicky and Frank Craw ford assisting. Wayne Christensen and Mr. and Mrs. Emil Micanek are in Omaha this week attending the Farmers Union convention. Mrs. Inger Levi returned Sun day, Febr. 1, from a visit with her daughter at Norfolk and son at Lindy. Dr. Gordon Ira left Friday, Feb ruary 6, for his home in Jack sonville, Fla., after being at the bedside of his mother, Mrs. G. B. Ira, who is now getting along satisfactorily. He had spent the past 10 days here. Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Tuch of Verdel visited at the George Tuch home here last Sunday.
