4-H Clubbers
Go Ice Skating—
The Up-And-At-It 4-H club
held a meeting at the Bennett
Sanders home Saturday evening.
All members but one were pres
ent. A new member, Denny Dray
ton, was admitted into the club.
During the meeting, plans were
made for the coming year and the
4-H fun night. The next meeting
will be a Valentine party to be
held on Sunday, February 15, at
the John Schmitz home.
After the meeting the 4-H
group went ice skating. A lunch
was served to the group at a late

Wednesday, January 28. She is

LYNCH—Louie Birmeier, about
75, was taken to Our Lady of
Lourdes hospital, Norfolk, and
underwent major surgery on Fri
day. He is “improved.” His
daughter, Mrs. George Kalkow
ski, underwent major surgery at
the Sacred Heart hospital at
Lynch on Thursday, January 29.
She is “getting along satisfactor
ily.” . . . Ludvig Placek is “get
ting along fine’’ at a Kansas City,
Mo., hospital following surgery
. . . Mrs. G. B. Ira is in a critical
condition in the local hospital.
Her son, Dr. Gordon Ira of Jack
sonville, Fla., came to be at her
bedside. She shows improvement,
however, following amputation of
one leg above the knee.

SOUTH OF STUART—Mr. and
Mrs. Arthur Givens took their
children, Gordon and Carolyn to
Grand Island Tuesday, where
entered St. Francis hospital and
both children had their tonsils
removed Wednesday morning.
They were able to be dismissed
Thursday and returned home.
Lois, Bobbie and Jerry Givens
stayed with Mr. and Mrs. Har
old Givens while their parents
were in Grand Island.
CHAMBERS—Mrs. A1 Leidtke
is a patient in St. Anthony’s hos
pital. . . Mrs. William Turner re
turned Sunday from Sioux City
where she had spent since Thurs
day, January 29, with her daugh
ter, Mrs. Willard Thomson, who
is a patient in St. Joseph’s hos
pital. . . Mr. and Mrs. Glen Tay
lor took their small daughter,
Kathy, to Norfolk Monday, Feb
ruary 2, where she had her ton
sils removed.
AMELIA—Mrs. Alvin Forbes
and Mrs. Lawrence Barnett
taught school for Mrs. Glen
White four days last week. Mrs.
White was ill with flu. Mrs.
Forbes taught Tuesday and
Wednesday, January 27 and 28,
and Mrs. Barnett taught Thurs
day and Friday.
DELOIT—Mrs. Ewald Spahn
underwent surgery in Omaha on
January 23. She was able to
come home in a few days and
is “feeling fine.” . . . Scott
Bowers, former resident of this
community is “seriously” ill in
the Neligh hospital.
O’NEILL—H. J. Lohaus is re
covering from a week’s illness of
the “flu.” . . J. L. McCarville,
sr., has been on the sick list. . .
E. F. Quinn is recovering from a
three weeks illness of the “flu”
. . . Fred Perry has been ill sev
eral days with influenza.
ROCK FALLS — Mrs. James
Curran, Mrs. Francis Curran and
Mrs. Albert Sterns visited Mr.
and Mrs. Bill Claussen in St. An
thony’s hospital Saturday. They
are better now after several days
of flu.
EWING—Mr. and Mrs. Elmer
Bergstrom called on Floyd Black,
a patient at Our Lady of Lourdes
hospital, Norfolk, on Wednesday
evening, January 28.
INMAN—Kenneth Smith left
Sunday for Omaha where he will
visit Mrs. Smith, who is a patient

The young adults of the Meth
odist church held a dogpatch
party in the church basement on
Tuesday evening. Mr. and Mrs.

Harrison Bridge were hosts. Each
member was dressed as a char
acter from the ’Lil Abner comic
strip. A lunch was served at the
close of the party.
Mrs. McKamy Entertains—
The CAM club met Tuesday
evening at the home of Mrs. Don
ald McKamy. The evening was
spent playing pitch. Mrs. Wayne
Harmon won the high score and
Miss Dorothy Bennett won the
low score and the all-cut prizes.
A lunch was served to the group
by Mrs. McKamy.
