To Take Part in
Carribean Exercise —
CHAMBERS—Marine Cpl. G.
E. Fluckey, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Arthur Gaines Fluckey of Cham
bers, will soon participate in ex
tensive marine corps training
exercises in the Carribean area.
Marine air group 14 of which
Corporal Fluckey is a member,
will cooperate with marine
ground units in maneuvers de
signed to improve the combat ef
ficiency of these elements. Par
ticular stress will be placed upon
close air support of ground units.
Two Puerto Rican islands will
be utilized as bases and training
areas during the exercise.
Participating units are current
ly forming for the maneuvers at
Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Council Adopts
Goals for 1953
The Holt county council of ex
tension clubs met in the assembly
room at the Holt county court
house on Tuesday, October 14.
The council discussed and adopted
new goals for 1953. The chief
goals were safety and first aid
and family life which includes '
better home management, recre
ation and films. It was decided
that blood typing and cancer ed
ucation would be continued in
1953. Handicraft, with emphasis
on basketry, would be included
in next year’s program.
The presidents of the various
clubs gave reports on the work
accomplished to the council.
A covered dish luncheon was
served at noon in the high school
auditorium. At 1:30 p.m. the
urogram opened with group sing
ing.
The county chairman’s report
was given by Mrs. Carson and a
reading report by Mrs. E. R.
Carpenter. A safety skit was
then produced entitled “A Day in 1
the Home.” Following the skit
a report was given of the nation
al meeting. Officers were then
elected for 1953 as follows: Mrs.
Albert Carson of Redbird, coun
ty chairman; Mrs. George Kie
del of Stuart, vice chairman; and
Mrs. Ed White of Amelia, sec
retary-treasurer.
Walling Feted by
CPPD Officials —
L. C. Walling, Consumers’
O’Neill manager, was an honored
guest at a dinner attended by dis
trict managers and superintenents
of Consumers Public Power dis
trict in conjunction with a two
day meeting held in Columbus
on Wednesday and Thursday, Oc
tober 16 and 17.
Mr. Walling’s long public util
ity career, nearly 48 years, was
given special recognition in the
form of suitable gifts presented to
him by friends and associates. Mr.
Walling is scheduled to retire at
the end of this year.
In a brief speech, Mr. Walling
expressed his deep appreciation
of the friends and experiences he
has encountered during his long
public srvice. He also recalled
some of his early day experiences
in the utility field. An ardent
hunter and fisherman, Mr. Wall
ing said that he has looked for
ward to the day when he can de
vote more time to field and
stream.
The two-day meeting was at
tended by district managers and
superintendents from 11 CPP dis
tricts throughout the state.
Daniel DeBacker has been pro
moted to seaman third class in
the navy. He is doing person
nel work at San Diego, Calif.
