Mr. and Mrs. R. G. Rockey and
Mrs. \ era Anson lelt Friday for
Gillette, Wyo., where they will
be guests at the home of Mr. and
Mrs. Eldred Skidmore. The Skid
mores are cousins of Mrs. Anson
and Mrs. Rockey, also former
residents of the Ewing commun
ity.
Mr. and Mrs. Willis Rockey
were dinner guests at the home
of her parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Louis Pofahl, Friday evening.

from Travis air base, Calif., was

ning. GiftS were to be collected
at the Gibson store until Novem
ber 10, when the unit will send
them to Lincoln. The value of
the gifts is to be at least one dol
lar each.
The auxiliary is beginning a
nationwide campaign of instruc
tion on flag etiquette among its
members with special instruc
i tions on giving the flag salute.

Worker at Ewing —
EWING—Sunday was thank
offering day at the United Presby
terian church in Ewing. Dr. Paul
Smith of North Bend was the
main speaker. His talk was based
on his experiences in the mission
field. He had on display many
interesting and curious articles
which he had collected during his
years in foreign lands.
Others on the program were

Jensen who gave a question and
answer number on the thank of
fering. Mrs. Ralph Shrader of
fered the praver.
Mrs. Archie Johnston is the sec
etary for the thank offering in
the missionary society and she
sends the offering to a mission
where it is badly needed.

met at the home of Mrs. Norris
Coats, Thursday, October 9, with
Mrs. Leonard Roberts and Mrs.
Berlin Mitchell as cohostesses.
Twenty members and three
guests were present. Devotionals
were led by Mrs. Charles Moses.
Plans were made to serve
lunch and have a food sale in the
Apparel Shop on Saturday, Oct.
18, beginning at 10 o’clock. Plans
were also made to serve lunch
on election day in the same build
ing.
A missionary quota of $150 was
accepted for 1953.
Election of officers for 1953
will be held at the next meeting,
Thursday, November 6. Lunch
was served by the hostesses.
Completes 35 Years

Harry Petersen, Northwestern
Bell Telephone company manager
at O’Neill, Friday, October 17,
will complete 35 years of service
with the company, according to
an announcement issued this
week by District Manager E. B.
Wilson of Grand Island.
Mr. Petersen started his tele
phone career as a groundman
with the Nebraska area construc
tion forces in the Grand Island
area. Subsequently he served ins
various capacities in the Lexing
ton, North Platte, Broken Bow,
Sidney and other Nebraska com
munities. He was appointed to •
his present assignment of mana
ger at O’Neill on August 18, 1943.
Mr. and Mrs. Petersen live at
501 East Everett in O’Neill with
their daughter, Jane, who is at
tending grade school. A son, Don,
is attending Washington univer
sity, St. Louis, Mo.
