4-H club met Friday evening,
August 1, at the Carl Christon
home. Preceding the business
meeting a demonstration on ad
justing spark plugs for a John
Deere tractor was given by Den
nis Scheer and Paul Gunter.
The group gave pledges to the
American and 4-H flags, led by
Janell Hoke and Sharon
Schmidt.
Mrs. Lionel Gunter read a
prayer for 4-H members, which
is to be memorized.
The meeting was called to or
der bv the president, Jackie Mo
sel. Roll call was answered by
naming a favorite color. Twen
ty-six members and four visit
ors, Ronald Neisius, Dick Fry,
Larry and Lyle Larson, were
present.
County achievement day,
which will be held Friday, Aug
ust 15, at O’Neill, was discussed.
Judging, demonstrations and ex
hibiting will be practiced
The next meeting will be held
August 22 at the Melvin Scheer
home. This wilt be the club’s
'hievement day.

who left Ewing several years ago
to make their home in Lincoln,
have moved back to Ewing and
are making their home with Mrs.
Wood’s aunt, Miss Vina Wood.
Mr. Wood is employed by the mo
tor vehicle division of the state
of Nebraska.
Mr. and Mrs. A1 Lindenberg
and three children of Morrow
ville, Kans., have been guests the
past week at the home of Mr. and
Mrs. Gail Boies and also guests
of Mrs. Rose Bauer and family
and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Bohn.
Mr. and Mrs. Dale Tressler and
two daughters were recent guests
at the home of Mr. and Mrs. R. G.
Rockey and family. They also
called at the home of Mr. and
Mrs. Everett Ruby. The Tressler
family make their home in Yuba
City, Calif., and Mrs. Tressler is
remembered at Ewing as the for

Monday for their home in Lin
coln after spending the weekend
at the home of her sister, Miss
Vina Wood, and his mother, Mrs.

Miss Fern Pruden, accompanied

of Orchard, attended the shrine
circus in Norfolk on Saturday.
Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Cary and
daughters, Leola and Nila, re
turned Saturday, July 19, from a
trip throughout the Black Hills,
S. D. They also attended the pas
sion play at Spearfish, S. D. They
reported having seen cars from
45 states, one from Alaska, and
one from Germany while in this
popular vacation area. Maine,
Rhode Island, and Massachusetts
were the three states not repre
sented.
Mrs. Wayne Lee and children
were guests at the home of Mr.
and Mrs. Leslie Cary last week.

Haycrop Harvested
for Church Benefit —
INMAN—A quarter section of
land leased by the Inman Metho
dist church in 1948 to aid in build
ing an addition to the church
through bluegrass stripping and
its hay crop, once more has yield
ed its crop to haying crews.
On Monday and Tuesday, July
25 and 26, members and friends
of the congregation put ud 20
stacks of hay. Proceeds will go
to help pay for the Maxcy mem
orial addition.

Biggest Cattle Run Since November Expected
• The biggest cattle run since last November is expected to
day (Thursday) at the O'Neill Livestock Market. The abnor
mal receipts are attributed to poor pasture conditions in the
sandhills area. The market on slaughter steers and yearlings ear
lier this week has been unevenly steady.
• The embargo is still in effect on feeder hogs. Fat hogs, how
fever, will be sold as usual at today's sale.
