o 3 Meadow Blazes Require Firemen Hytrek Haystack Hit by Lightning STUART—The volunteer fire department answered a call to the Jonn Hytrek place three miles northeast of Stuart on Saturday about 6 p.m., when a stack of hay was struck by lightning and the fire was spreading on the mead ow. Two other grass fires nearby were caused by lightning at the same time. One, on a meadow leased by Walter Smith was seen and extinguished by the Smiths without aid The other on the Jerome and Delbert Baum place was extinguished by the Atkin son fire department. Mr. and Mrs. Rex Coffman re turned Wednesday, July 9, from their wedding trip. Lowell Dodd left Thursday, July 10, for Camp Crowder, Mo. He has enlisted in the regular army for two years. Miss Donna Krotter, who at tends summer school in Lincoln, spent the weekend with her par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Krot ter. Miss Billie Ruther spent the past week visiting with Miss Mary Obermire. New Project Club Organized at Inman INMAN — A group of ladies met Friday at the home of Mrs. Lewis Kopecky, jr., for the pur pose of reorganizing the Inman project club. Mrs. Helen Kreym borg, home demonstration agent frdhi O'Neill, was present. Mrs. Lewis Kopecky, jr., was elected president and. Miss Elsie Krueger was elected secretary and treasurer of the new club. James Harte left Tuesday, Ju ly 8, fo rDenver, Colo., and from there will continue on to his home in Buhl, Ida., after spend ing some time in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Leo Harte and with other relatives in Inman. Mrs. Walter Jacox is spending several days visiting her son-in law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Wolfe, and family at Amelia. Mrs. Sadie Shephard of Val entine spent the weekend visit ing Mrs. Walter Jacox and Mr. and Mrs. Dave Morsbach and with other friends. Mrs. Anna Smith returned on Sunday from Elm Creek where she had spent a week visiting Mr. and Mrs. Lonnie Woods and family. 1/Lt. Audry Brunckhorst of Ft. Worth, Tex., came Saturday to spend a leave with her par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Brunckhorst. and family. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Snyder of Norfolk visited their son-in-law and daughter. Mr. and Mrs. Lew is Kopecky, jr., and son, Dickie, a few days last week. Mrs. James Coventry and chil dren snent Sunday visiting Mr. and Mrs. William Turner at Chambers. Miss Murl Keves last Thursday returned to Valentine where she is employed after sepnding a few davs visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Keyes. Miss Diane Luben of Wisner is spending a few davs visiting in the May Fraka and Merlin Luben homes. Cal Gearv of Lvons came On Thursday to spend some time visiting friends and relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Jones and family are here from El Monte, Calif., visiting Mrs. Jones’ par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Otto Retke. Robert Retke left Wednesday, July 9. for Omaha where he will be inducted into the army. He is the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Otto Retke. Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Sawyer and Horace Keil spent Wednes day. July 9, at Lake Andes, S.D. Mickey Sawver spent Tuesday evening and Wednesday. July R end 9. in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Coon while his parents were at Lake Andes. S.D. Mrs. Joe Coon and son, Dale, and daughter. Doris, left Wed nesday evening. July 9. for Ew ing and Clearwater where they visited relatives and friends un til Sunday. Dale remained in Clearwater for a longer visit. Mrs. E. C. Goodin of Valen tine came Wednesday, July 9, to visit her brother-in-law and sister, Dr. and Mrs. C. W. Alex ander. The women’s department of the RLDS church held a regular meeting Tuesday afternoon, Ju ly 8, at the home of Mrs. Joe Coon. Nine members were pres ent. After the lesson and busi ness meeting the hostess served a lunch. Dr. and Mrs. C. W. Alexander and Mrs. E. C. Goodin left Fri day for Omaha where they will spend a few days with friends. Mrs. Vem Wrede entertained a group of ladies at her country home Friday afternoon. The hostess served a lunch at the close of the afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. James Ferris and family of Leigh spent the weekend here with relatives and friends. Barbara Brunckhorst, Joan Coventry and Larry Sawver, who attend Wayne State Teachers college, spent the weekend with home folks. O’NEILL LOCALS Mr. and Mrs. Sylvester Zakr zewski have received word from Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Bowen,who have been vacationing in the western states. Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Bryan and 3 children of Lincoln, returned to their home Monday after spending ten days with Mr. and Mrs. Harold Young. Sunday both families went fishing on the Elk horn river. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Wilson and family returned Monday, July 7, from a visit with relatives in Cres ton and Mt. Ayrs, la. Their two daughters, Carolyn and Kathryn, remained in Iowa for a longer visit. Miss Mary Louise, who had been visiting there, returned with them and James Michiel Daugh ton came home with them. James will visit in the Wilson home for a time. Mr. and Mrs. George Van Ev ery accompanied by their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Van Every of Grand Is land, left for Columbus, Mont., Wednesday where they will visit for a week or 10 days with Mr. and Mrs. Glen Van Every. Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Ross and family and Mrs. George Conard and sons were Sunday dinner guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. William Conard. On Friday, July 11, Mrs. Addie L. Wrede, Mrs. Henry Martin and Mrs. Clarence Wrede motored to Inman to be with Mr. and Mrs. Vern Wrede. Mrs. Katie Stearns visited over Sunday with Mrs. Cecil Spry. Miss Ellen Butterfield is a new telephone operator for the North western Bell Telephone company in O’Neill. Guests in the Ed Wilson home Thursday and Friday, June 26 and 27, were J. P. Daughton and F. M. Daughton of Creston, la., and F. J. Daughton of Mt. Ayrs, la. Miss Mary Louise Wilson re turned to Iowa with the Daugh tons for a few days visit.
