Numerous Family Gatherings at Ewing BWING—Easter Sunday, 1952 was marked with numerous fam ily and friendly gatherings in the Swing community. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Kimes were hosts on Easter Sunday at a fam ily party held at their home in north Ewing. The party wor shipped in Clearw’ater, where Daniel Lamont, the infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Merle Filsinger, was baptized. winner was served at tne par ental home at noon and the afternoon was spent informally. Another Easter family party was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Regan near Inman. Those in attendance were: her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Spitt ler, and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Gragge, of O’Neill, Mrs. Nel lie Komer, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Funk and daughters, Richard and Rosalie Spittler and J. B. Spittler. Mr and Mrs. Albert Larson en j«jyed a family gathering at the country home of their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Larson and family on Easter Sunday. Fry, Mrs. Caroline Sanders had as her guests her daughter, Mrs. Bernice Harlan and children, of Tilden, and Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Sanders and son, John, of Ewing. Mr, and Mrs. Archie Tuttle were hosts to a dinner party Sunday when they entertained a number of relatives, Mrs. Leota Butler, Mrs. Vera Anson and son, Lyle, Mr. and Mrs. R. G. Rockey and son. Vernon, Mr. and Mrs. Willis Rockey, Mr. and Mrs. Bu ford Carlson and son, Danny, of Orchard, Mr- and Mrs. Vance Butler and family, of Neligh, Mrs. VanceAnson and son, Dennie, of Ewing. Vance Anson was unable to be present, having been called to. the disaster area near Sioux City with road equipment to as sist in holding the dikes. Mr and Mrs. Mick Jeffers and family accompanied by his moth er, Mrs. Sadie Jeffers, of Cham bers, spent Easter day at the home of Mr. and Mrs Arthur Kropp and family in Ewing. Mr and Mrs. George Jefferies and Bonnie Jo were dinner guests at the home of Mrs. Fred Maben on Easter Sunday. Mrs. Maude Boies was born 73 years ago Easter Sunday, and the {first time in her life had the pleasure of celebrating her birth day anniversary on Easter Sun day. April 13. She was the guest of hoaor at the home of Jennie Brown for an afternoon party. A birthday cake with traditional decorations was the center of at traction. This was served with ice cream and coffee for refresh ments. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Kramer and family, of O’Neill, and Mr. and Mrs. Dick Fox and daughter were Sunday" guests of Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Fox. Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Phalin and two sons, Michael and Larry, of Sioux Falls, S.D., spent the Easter weekend with Mr. Phalin’s mother, Mrs. Frank Phalin. They returned to their home Sunday afternoon. Francis Flood, who attends Creighton university, Omaha, vis ited over the Easter weekend with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. N. Flood. He returned to Oma ha on Monday. L, Donovan and children sepnt the Easter weekend in Greeley with Mr. Donovan’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. D. F. Donovan. Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Eby spent Easter Sunday with Mr, Eby’s mother, Mrs. Alma Eby, in Ainsworth. Mr. and Mrs. William Fuhrer, of Butte, were Thursday, April 10, guests at the home of their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Fuhrer. Joe Sobotka, jr., spent the weekend in O'Neill with rela tives. He had been employed with the Northwestern Bell Tele phone company in Ansley but has been transferred to O’Neill. Mr. and Mrs. Donald Hopkins spent Easter Sunday in Ewing with Mrs. Hopkins’s mother, Mrs. Frank Meyer. Mr. and Mrs. Aodlph Mlinar, of Atkinson, spent Sunday at the home of Mrs. John Smith and family. Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Fluckey, of Fremont, arrived on Sunday, April 6. and have been visiting I at the home of Mrs. Fluckey’s mother, Mrs. Edna Huebert, and f at Chambers at the Arthur Fluckey home. They returned home Easter Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Lee Osborne and sons, Wayne and Norman, of Parker, Kans., Mrs. John Moler and son, William, of Wall, S.D., were Easter Sunday supper guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Gaskill. Golden went to Kan sas City, Mo., on Sunday, April 6, to visit her daughter and son in-law, Dr. and Mrs. R. L. Owens and to help care for her new granddaughter, Nancy. Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Griener and Mrs. D. McDermott and family went to Hastings on Sunday, April 6, to visit Mr. and Mrs. Leland Leib and daughter. Mrs. Leib returned with them. Mr Leib came Easter Sunday. They returned home the same day. Mr- and Mrs. Marvin Miller went to Omaha Sunday to attend the ice capades. Miss Reimer, Bride Elect, Feted — Miss Helen Martens, of Atkin son, Miss Leona Beckwith, of Emmet, Miss Elsie Peter and Mrs. Howard Manson were host esses at a pre-nuptial miscellane ous shower at the Manson home | on Saturday afternoon, April 12, in honor of Miss Marlene Reim er, of Ewing, a student in the University of Nebraska. Miss Reimer is engaged to Howard Temple, county agent at Thedford. A summer wedding is planned. Refreshments were served. Return from Cuba — Mr. and Mrs. Roy Goree vis ited at the home of Mrs. Goree’s sisters, Mrs. George McCarthy, Mrs. Ralph Walker and Mrs. Ralph McElvain on their return trip home to Long Pine following a two-months vacation trip through 15 southern states. They visited in Cuba, Key West, Pensa cola and Miami, Fla., New Or leans, La., Galveston and Huston, Tex., and many other places, covering 7,000 miles. Helen Cohn Is 3 — Mrs. Pnilip Cohn entertained at a birtnuay anniversary party on bunday, Hprii B, in honor of her daugnter, Helene, who was 3 years-old. There were 7 girls and Doys present, accompanied by their mothers. For entertain ment the children enjoyed com edy movies shown by Mrs. Cohn. Refreshments consisting of ice cream and birthday cake were served. Miss Peterson Feted on Birthday — Mrs. Harold Peterson enter tained on Thursday, April 10, in honor of her daughter, Deanna, who was celebrating her 14th birthday anniversary. Nine girls were present for the occasion. Bingo and other games were played tor entertainment. Re freshments were served by Mrs. Peterson. Mrs. Kersenbrock Hostess — Mrs. Date Kersenbrock was hostess to the Jeudi club Tuesday evening, April 15. A 7 o’clock uinner was held at the M&M caie with briuge following at Mrs. Kersenbrock’s home. Mrs. L. R. Sutcnffe was a guest. High score winners were Mrs. Melvin Ruzkka and Mrs. J. B. Grady. Plan Open-House — Mr. and Mrs. Henman DeGroff are celebrating their 38th wed ding anniversary on Sunday, April 20. Open house will be held from 2 until 4. Mr. and Mrs. DeGroff were both reared in Holt county and were married in Burwell. They are the parents of nine children. Mrs. Moses Hostess — Merri Myx bridge club met on Tuesday afternoon at the home of Mis. E s. Moses. The hostess served a dessert luncheon at 1:30 o’clock a^ter which bridge was played. High score winner was Mrs. C- W. Porter. Mrs. Fred Robertson was a guest. Mrs. Strong Feted — Mrs. Gilbert Strong was sur prised by a group of friends on Sunday, April 13. The evening was spent playing pinochle. Out of-town guests were Mr. and Mrs. Dale LaSart, of Climax, Colo. Refreshments were served. Maries Meets — Mrs. W. J. Froelich entertained the Martez club on Tuesday eve ning, with a 7 o’clock dinner at the Town House followed by bridge at her home. High score winners were two guests. Mrs. C. J Gatz and Mrs. C. E. Etout. Returns to Home— Mrs. Dick Devereaux returned to her home in Omaha Thursday, April 10, after visiting a week in O’Neill with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Hunt. Mrs. Hunt went to Omaha with her, returning Sunday. Club in Session — The MM Bridge club met at the home of Mrs. Esther Cole Harris on Wednesday evening with a dessert luncheon at 7:30 o’clock and bridge following. CRELLIN UNDER KNIFE EWING—R. D. Crellin, who re tired last September as editor of the Ewing Advocate, has sub mitted to surgery once more at the Veterans hospital, Grand Is land. His condition is “good.” Mrs. Carl Sehenzel went to Hadar on Monday where she will spend a few days visiting_ rela tives. I--—. Betty June Passieux Weds Corporal Green Miss Betty June Passieux, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Passieux, of O’Neill, and Cpl. Marvin Green, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dewey Green, of Chambers, were united in marriage on Mon day, April J4, at 3 o’clock at the Presbyterian church. Rev. Sam uel Lee officiated. The bride was dressed in navy blue with white accessories. The bridegroom wore his army uni form. Madeline Meyers and Kenneth D. Braasch, both of O’Neill, wit nessed the ceremony. Corporal Green will report to San Louis, Obispo, Calif., today (Thursday). Mrs. Green is employed in the Koffee Shop and will continue working there. Inman Seniors Sneak to Missouri Ozarks —_ I INMAN—The seniors of In man high school departed from the old-established custom of a sneak trip to O’Neill, Norfolk, Sioux City, Omaha or Lincoln. They did things up brown. The class and sponsors left Inman at 2 a.m., last Thursday, reached the Lake Ozark area in Missouri about 4:30 p.m. Touching four states on their 1,296-mile junket, they return ed to Inman Sunday evening. It was a practical lesson in geography, they said upon their return. From South Sioux City: Mr. and Mrs. T. W. Gribble and daughter, Gertrude; at home of the Gribbles’ son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Gurney Drayton, in Orchard. Sunday they were guests at the D. C. Schaffer home in O’Neill. From Council Bluffs: Mr. and Mrs. Sam Grace and family and Mr. and Mrs. James Radar and family; at home of relatives in Omaha. Harty and the late Mr. Harty, has been selected by Simonson unit 93, American Legion aux iliary, to attend the annual girls’ state activities at Lin coln in June. Miss Harty is a St. Mary’s academy junior, has been active in girls’ glee club, pep club and band. She ranks high scholastically. Mrs- Daisy Hulick left for her home in Aloerquerque, N. M., on Tuesday, April 15.
