Mrs. C. L. Cosner Burial at Stuart STUART — Funeral services for Mrs. L. L. Cosner, who died Monday afternoon, March 17, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. D. B. Marcellus, were held Sat urday afternoon, March 22, at 2 o’clock in the Community church in Stuart with Rev. Onn Graff officiating. Burial was in the Stuart cemetery. The pahoearers were Glen McClurg, of Atkinson, Elmer McClurg, Charles Mulford, James Deming, Lawrence Lofquost and Emil Cklay, of Stuart. Marilla Finley Halstead was born February b', 1871, at Camp bellford, Ontario, Canada, and as a small child moved with her parents to Sibley, la., then when 12 years old came with her par ents to Nebraska in a covered wagon to what was then called the “Point” in Boyd county. She was married to Levi L. Cosner on March 3, 1890, and they took a claim at Fairfax, S. D., where they lived for seven years. They moved from here to Grand Rapids in the Dustin com munity and in 1915 they came to Stuart, where she live?<until she died. Mr. and Mrs. Cosner were the parents of six children, three daughters and one son having preceded her in death. In 1940 they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. On October 1, 1947, Mr. Cosner passed away. Mrs. Cosner was active in church work, having taught a Sunday-school class for 63 years, first in Fairfax, then Dustin and Stuart. She received a life mem bership in the WSCS in 1947 and was a member of the Methodiost church for many years. Survivors include: Daughter— Mrs. D. B. (Mary) Marceilus, of Stuart; sons—Lawrence, of Glen dale, Ariz., a warrant officer in the army; two sisters living in South Dakota; Brothers — John Halstead, of Fairfax, S.D., and Ed Halstead, of Kansas City, Mo.; It) grandchildren and 15 great- ' grandchildren. Relatives from a distance here for the funeral rites were Mr. ! and Mrs. Ed Halstead, of Kansas ; City, Mo.; Mrs. Daisy Cosner Hulick, of Albuquerque, 1N.M., and Mr .and Mrs. Melvin Mar cellus and family, of O’Neill. Terry Tomjack Honoree— Mr. and Mrs. Leo Tomjack, assisted by Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Pruss, entertained 21 children from St. Mary’s kindergarten class Sunday, March 23, with a theater party at the Royal. The party was in honor of Terry Tomjack, who was celebrating his 6th birthday anniversary. The children met in the large jury room in the courthouse, and refreshments were served at the long table decorated with pink, blue and white. A large angel food cake appropriately decorat ed with six candles graced the center of the table. Favors were pink candy rabbits. Refreshments consisted of ice cream, cake and kool-ade. In 194G he was the only Southerner who voted against a resolution to cite for con tempt 18 communists who had refused to give information to the Committee. “6. In 1947 he voted against a resolution to consider the Loyalty Bill which provided for the removal and preven tion of appointment in the Ex ecutive Branch of the Govern ment of all Communists or persons who belonged to or ganizations that favored the overthrow of our Government. "7. In 1948 he voted against the provision of the Taft Hartley Bill which provided for the filing of affidavits by labor leaders stating that they were not members of the Com munist Party, or members or supporters of any organization that believes in or teaches the overthrow of the Government by force or by any illegal or unconstitutional method.
