Scholz Rites Are Held at Chambers CHAMBERS—Funeral services were conducted Friday. February ?.2, at the Methodist church in Chambers for Ellis Schclz. who died Tuesday. February 19. Rev. L. R. Hansberry was in charge of the services. A ladies’ quar tette. composed of Mrs. Tom Hut ton- ^rs. Lee Mitchell, Mrs. Keith Sexton and Mrs. Kenneth Adams, furnished the music. Mrs. Lei a Corcoran was the pi anist. Pallbearers were Henry Web er, Leo Brown. John Brown Er nest Young. George Zellers and Bernard Cavanaugh. Other Chambers News Mrs. Donald Grimes and Bon nie, of Eaton. Colo., came Thurs day for a visit with relatives and friends. Dinner guests in the L. V. Cooper home Sunday were Mrs. Genevieve Bell, Mrs. Donald Grimes and Bonnie, and Arnold. Marie and Erna Zuelke. Rev. and Mrs. L. R. Hansber ry drove to Ong Thursday due to the illness of her mother. Mrs. Hansberrv remained for awhile. He returned that evening. Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Wonder see and Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Hoffman drove to Norfolk on Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. John Blair mov ed the first of the week from northwest, nf Chambers to a place south of Amelia. Mr. and Mrs. Dean V. Stevens and children. Cherilyn and Ter ry, of Atkinson, and Mrs. Don on, Colo., were Saturday guests aid Grimes and Bonnie, of Eat in the E. R. Carpenter home. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Turner and son came from Grand Island Saturday and visited until Sun day with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Turner. Wavne Stevens accompanied them back to Grand Island late Sunday. The Missionary society, of the Memorial Baptist church, met Thursdav. February 21. at the home of Mrs. Everette Winter mote with ladies present. The president Mrs. Frank Porter, conducted the business session and led the devotionals. February 27. for Biloxie, Miss., where Mrs. Harlev will remain to be near her husband, who is in the ser vice stationed there. Mrs. Georee Thomson and Mr. and Mrs. Nick Schmidt and daughters drove to Atkinson on Wednesday evening. February 20. Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Edwards, °f Cushing, came Friday to visit her mother. Mrs. Sarah Adams and Mrs. Clair Grimes were hostesses to the Women’s Society of Christian Service, of the Methodist rhurch, at the home of Mrs. Grimes on Thursday, February 21. Nine teen members and friends were present. Mrs. Charles Grimes, president, opened the meeting and had charge of the business session. Mrs. Keith Sexton led the devotionals. Mrs. Sexton and Mrs. K. N. Adams sang a duet with Mrs. Corcoran at the piano. Mrs. Charles Grimes con ducted the Bible study on the Book of Acts. She was assisted by Mrs. Louis Neilson, Mrs. Hall oway, Mrs. John Wintermote, Mrs. Sarah Adams, Mrs. R. K. Platt, Mrs. Glen Adams and Mrs. E. R. Carpenter. Refreshments were served by the hostess. The next meeting will be with Mrs. Steve Shavlik with Mrs. Sexton and Mrs. Glen Adams as co-host esses on March 6. Miss Barbara Birmingham, daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. H. J. Birmingham, was named a princess in the 19th annual Mardi Gras festival at Duchesne college, Omaha, where she is a senior. She is pictured with her escort, Jerry Mur phy, of Sioux Falls, S.D. Rev. V. R. Bell went to Woi bach on Tuesday, where he of ficiated at the funeral rites of an old parishioner, Mrs. John Mad sen. The rites were held in the j Lutheran church in Wolbach. Mrs. Henry Mullen received j word that her son, S/Sgt. James F. Mullen, will arrive in O’Neill I on Saturday, March 1. Mrs. Beeds is employed by the Northwestern Bell Telephone company in O’Neill and will con tinue her work after March 10, when Mr. Beeds will go into the armed forces. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Langan, of Columbus, were Monday guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Matt Hynes and Mr. and Mrs. M. M. Langan. Mrs. John Rotherham, of In man, spent the weekend in O’ Neill visiting relatives. Mrs. Sadie Kaiser arrived last Thursday from Sioux City after visiting her daughter. Audrey Plummer. She spent a few days with her son. Stech and family, of Atkinson, were supper guests of Mr. and Mrs. Fred /.ink on Thursday, February 21. Members of the men’s council of the Community church went to Atkinson Friday night to at tend the oyster stew and to hear Rev. Sam Lee, of O’Neill, give a talk on Alaska, illustrated with color slides. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Snyder moved to Inman on Saturday, February 23. Berlin Mitchell and sons, Mar vin and Warren, attended the North-Central Nebraska Hereford sale at Bassett on Saturday, Feb ruary 23. Mrs. Jane Cobb was hostess to the Garden club Monday, Feb ruary 18. Twelve members an swered roll call by giving a de scription of their favorite flower. The program was given by Mrs. Fred Zink with "Miscellaneous Garden Notes” and Mrs. F. J. Clark on "Harmonizing Colors.” The club voted to sell some var iety of shrub again this year. Lunch was served by the hostess. Mrs. Z. X. Marshall, Mrs. Jane Cobb, Mrs. Ora Yarges and Mrs. B. Mitchell met with Mrs. Wilbur Moon Friday afternoon, February 22. A box of clothing was mend ed and packed to be sent to Ko rea by the Women’s Society of the Community church. Miss Donna Krotter, Univer sity student at Lincoln, spent the weekend with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Don Krotter. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Stoecker, of Atkinson, visited with Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Coffman Sunday aft ernoon, February 24. Jerry Henderson, student in Doane college, Crete, spent the weekend with home folks. Jim Flynn, of Washington, D.C., is visiting with his parents this week. Rex Coffman and Miss JoAnn Knotts, university students at Lincoln, spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Coffman. Don Shald and Keith Rodaway, students at Creighton university, Omaha, came Thursday evening, February 21, to spend the week end with Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Shald. Ralph Shald took the boys back to Omaha Sunday aft ernoon and went to Marysville, Mo., on business. Miss Ethel Chittick came from Omaha Saturday morning, Feb ruary 23, on business and to visit friends over the weekend. The M. M. Shattuck family are moving into the Bert Ramm house this week. Mr. and Mrs. Lowel Dodd, of Crete, came Friday, February 22, and spent the weekend with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Dodd. Miss Nannette Cowles, student at the state university at Lincoln spent the weekend with her par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Cowles. Mr. and Mrs. Lavern Campbell have purchased the farm vacated by Mr. and Mrs. Harry Snyder. They moved there Monday, Feb ruary 25. PAGE NEWS Less Latnason, of Lincoln, came to Page Friday to be present at his farm sale Saturday afternoon when his 280-acre farm was sold at auction. Elmer Tavener pur chased the 120-acre hayland for $37.50 per acre, and John Lama son the improved quarter for $28 per acre. Mr. Lamason had lived on the farm for 45 years. Two years ago he and Mrs. Lama son bought a home in Page and moved to town. After her death last fall he moved to Lincoln to be near his daughters. Mr. and Mrs. Gailord Albright, of Page, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Stevens, of O’Neill, and Mrs. O. J. Hoffman, of Clearwater, at tended the funeral services of the 4-months-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Shane at Lincoln. The baby had been ailing since birth. Just recently they re turned from Chicago, 111., where they had consulted a baby spe cialist. Mrs. Shane is the daugh ter of the Albright’s and a sister of Mrs. Stevens and Mrs. Hoff man. Mr. and Mrs. David Bowen and Mr. and Mrs. Will Neubauer at tended a Hereford cattle sale in Bassett on Saturday.
