Study Special Days in Lenten Season CHAMBERS—The Ladies Aid of St. Paul's Lutheran church met Thursday, February 14, at the church tor a regular session. Due to weather and road con ditions the attendance was small. The secretary, Mrs. L. O. Lenz, presided at tne business session in the absence of the president and vice-president. The ladies voted to send $10 to the old peoples’ home in Omaha and also to hold a bake sale on March 15. The lesson on special days of the Lenten season was presented by the pastor, Rev. C. D. Ankney. Mrs. Eric Dankert and Mrs. L. O. Lenz served the lunch. Other Chambers News Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Flucky and family and Delores Wilkin son, of Fremont, spent the week end with the former's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Art Flucky, and the latter’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Vein Wilkinson. Miss Wilkinson, who attended college in Fre mont the first semester, is now employed there. Keller Presbyterian Ladies Aid did not meet at the Ray Hoffman home on February 13 as planned on account of bad road and weather conditions. The next meeting will be at the Gene Hal sey home on February 27 for an afternoon session. Mr. and Mrs. James Platt drove to Omaha Sunday, where Mrs. Platt will attend a beauty convention. They were accom panied by Mrs. Esther Wood and Chauncey Wood. The latter went for medical care. Milton Burtwhistle, of the navy, came recently from San Diego, Calif., to spend a 30-day leave with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. K. M. Burtwhistle. Mr. and Mrs. Chet Fees and daughter, Cherilyn, spent Sunday visiting the Frank Bachaus and and Richard Porter families at Amelia. A group of young people of the Walther league of St. Paul’s Luth eran church, attended a Bowling party in O’Neill Sunday evening. Mr. and and Mrs. Steve Shavlik and daughter, Pam, drove to Nor folk Sunday to attend an open house by a hardware finm honor ing dealers. Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Thorin and Charles and Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Wintermote drove to Neligh Sun day to visit Mrs. Thorin’s brother and wile, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Thorin and Mr. and Mrs. Clark Overton. Mr. Thorin remained in Neligh where he is employed. The family will move there later. Mrs. Arnie Mace, jr., and son, Richard, are spending a few days in the William Ritterbust home. Mr. and Mrs. Louis Neilson and Mrs. Halloway were Sunday din ner guests in the John Winter mote home. Mrs. Charlotte Honeywell and granddaughter, Mrs. Elmer Truax, of Neligh, left Tuesday, February 19, from Grand Island, for Hub bard, Ore., to attend the wedding of the former’s great-granddaugh ter. They expect to be gone for 2 weeks. The Happy Homemakers club met at the home of Mrs. G. C. Smith on February 8. The meet ing was called to order by the president, Mrs. Bernard Hoffman. Twelve members answered roll call. It was voted to contribute to the march of dimes campaign. Members drew the names of se cret pals for the year. The read ing leader, Mrs. Harlan Dierkmg, gave an interesting report on "The Loneliest Housekeeper in America.” The lesson on "Quick Breads” was given by Mrs. Bayne Grubb and Mrs. Harlan Dierkmg. The next meeting will be at the home of Mrs. Harlan Dierking on February 29. Mr. and Mrs. Clair Grimes and Mrs. Lela Corcoran and boys, Robbie and Stevie, were Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Smith and family and Mrs. Louise Crandell. Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Walter re turned Friday from Neligh where they spent the past week with their daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Dick Brion and family. Mr. Walter assisted Mr. Brion with work in the store. Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Brittell plan to move this week to their new hoime they purchased near Ne ligh. Sunday dinner guests in the Eric Dankert home were John Dankert, Mrs. Elsie Otter and Mr. and Mrs. Donald Dankert and children. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Taggart and daughter, Shirley Lou, of Creigh ton, spent Sunday, February 12, at the Charles Wright home. Mrs. J. W. After the business meeting Valentines were ex changed and then the leaders demonstrated the lesson on “Quick Breads.” A lunch was served in late afternoon. The Harmony club met with Mrs. Lee Barnes Thursday, Feb ruary 14. The meeting was called to order by the president, Mrs. Dayton Seiler. One new member was enrolled making a total of 20 members. Robert Pearson to Philippine Islands STUART—Mrs. Robert Pearson and little daughter arrived here last week from Washington, D.C., to stay with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Zink, while her hus band is in Manilla, Philippines. Mr. Pearson is a clerk in civil service of the U. S. government and expects to be there for 3 months. Mrs. Pearson, a registered nurse, will work with the Com munity hospital staff as a special nurse and on call for emergen cies.
