Lutherans Will Build
$3,000,000 College
The new Senior college of the
Lutheran church, Missouri synod,
is to be located in the suburban
areas of either Chicago, 111., or
Milwaukee, Wise., it was an- j
nouneved b yDr. John W. Behn
ken, president of the church
body, following the meeting of a
99-man committee appointed by
the church to make the decision.
The new school is to form an
aditional unit in the training pro
gram for the Missouri synod min
isters and will add one year to ;
the 11-year schedule now author- 1
ized for most students. Cost of
the new school is expected to be
about $3,000,000.
The decision to locate the new
Senior college in the suburban
areas of either Chicago or Mil
waukee was reached by a major
ity vote of the special committee
on location at a 2-day meeting in
St. Louis, Mo.
Other areas that had also been
recommended by the board for
higher education were in Iowa at
Council Bluffs, Ft. Dodge, and
Burlington; Cleveland Heights, O.,
and Detroit, Mich., areas; and
Colorado Springs, Colo.
Funds for the Senior college
will be provided from the pro
posed $10,000,000 “Conquest for
Christ” offering now being plan
ned by Missouri synod churches
throughout the country.
A major function of the new
senior college, according to Rev.
R. W. Olson, of O’Neill, district
public relations representative,
"will be to foster the educational
and spiritual growth of the young
ministers-to-be.”
Representing the north-Nebras
ka district of the Misouri synod
in selection of the location of the
new college was Rev. Walter K.
Hommann, of Bancroft, district
president.
