Water from Thaw
Troubles Workmen
ATKINSON — City officials
were having difficulty Saturday
draining water from the streets.
Conditions have made it almost
impossible to remove all snow and
ce and the continued thaw melted
snow and ice faster than the ice
clogged runways could carry it
off. Workmen were pumping
late Saturday evening and by
trading time the streets were in
only fair condition.

The white strip of paper run
ning along the edge of the side
walk was filled for a half block
with dimes and dollar bills that
had been gathered by the young
Girl Scouts and their sponsors on
Saturday. The (money was do- !
nated by passersby to the march
of dimes fund.

known Atkinson young woman,
has taken over his duties of edi- j
tor of The York Republican at
York. Don graduated from the
University of Nebraska in 1945.

Dell Scott narrowly escaped
serious injury Tuesday, January
29, when the car he was driving
skidded and jumped the road,
plummeting over a 10-foot em
bankment down onto the river
below. Fortunately the ice held
and Mr. Scott was only severly
shaken. The car was not damaged
to a great extent. The accident
occurred on the highway crossing
the Niobrara river going north in
to Butte. There is no guard rail
on the approach to the bridge.
Miss Dorothy Vahle, Atkinson
high school girls’ volleyball coach,
reports that the girls came home
from the Long Pine invitational
tournaiment with a trophy. They
won 3d place when they defeated
Brewster in the semifinals. The
tournament was won by Dunning.
Ten teams took part.
A group of friends will gather
Friday, February 8, at the
Knights of Columbus hall in At
kinson for a farewell party. Joe
Ramold, second son of Mrs. Joe
Ramold, will be guest of honor.
Joe leaves for the service with
the group departing February 12.

cer. They began housekeeping on
their farm south of Page where
they lived until about 7 years
ago when they moved to their
present home in Page.
