Jimmy Sawyer New Head Victory Club INMAN—At the recent meet ing of the Victory boys’ and girls’ <lub held at the IOOF hall the following officers were elected: Jimmy Sawyer, president; Ro laad Hansen, vice-president; Bob by Reimers, secretary-treasurer; Liietta Coon, song leader; Bobby Tams, news reporter; Kay Coven try, recreation leader. Mrs. Ermand Keyes was re elected overall leader for the new year. Detailed plans for 1952 will be developed at a later meeting. Preceding the business meeting a recreational period was enjoyed. A large number of parents and friends attended this final meet- i ing of the club year, and record books were handed in. After the | meeting was closed, lunch was served by Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Ab ney and Mr. and Mrs. Ermand Keyes. Other Inman News Women’s Society of Christian Service met at the home of Mrs. Arthur Renner Thursday, Jan uary 17, with 14 members and guests present. Mrs. Ralph Moore and Mrs. Lyle Abney were host esses. Mrs. James Coventry led the devotions. The society voted to collect used Christmas cards, coffee jar labels and tin strips which will be turned in to Mrs. L. R. Tompkins. These will be sent to a Christmas toy campaign. The •OCiety was pleased to receive an accept a 48-cup electric coffee maker, a gift from Mrs. Louis FSedler, of Aurora, 111. Mrs. Fied ler is a sister of Mrs. Karl Keyes and taught school here several years prior to her marriage. The next meeting will be a Valentine birthday party on February 7. The Young Adult Fellowship Hiram, and Mirandy party was held in the IOOF hall Thursday evening, January 17, with 50 members present. S/Sgt. and Mrs. Howard Clark, of Omaha, were special guests. Mr. and Mrs. Gene Curk and Harry Moore served •a hosts for the evening. The birthday calendars, which were sponsored by the white Ship, arrived Friday, January 18. Twenty members and guests of the red group of the Young Adult Fellowship surprised Mr. and Mrs. (ffclp surprised Mr. and Mrs. Robert Tams Sunday evening by calling on them in their home. The evening was spent visiting and making plans for activities of | the group. Miss Murl Keyes was appointed secretary and treasurer. Five members and guests of the Methodist Youth Fellowship at tended the west central subdis trict MYF rally held at Ewing Sunday, January 20. Members of the Inman MYF helped furnish the supper at 5:30 p.m. Donald Keyes, Glen Gillogly and Leon Tompkins donated work the past week on the Max cy Memorial addition. The shingl ing is now mostly completed, the windows are all installed and some of the siding is on the east side. Rev. C. C. Chappell’s sermon, “Being Hard Up, a homespun philosophy on finance, was en joyed Sunday morning by those present at the Methodist church. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Burgstrum and Connie Jean, of Council Bluffs, la., attended the service. Mrs. Harvey Tompkins is the new teacher for the kindergarten class. She replaces Mrs. Max Mossman, who has taught the the class for several months past. Two little new members of the nursery class of the Sunday school are Donna Fern Keyes and Mark Allen Tompkins. Murl Keyes is the teacher of this class. S/Sgt. and Mrs. Howard Clark left Friday for Maywood, 111., where they will spend a few days visiting Mr. and Mrs. Roy Tjes sem. Mrs. Tjessem and Mr. Clark are sister and brother. Miss Deritha Smith, of Norfolk, spent the weekend visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Smith. Miss Lois Morsbach spent the weekend in Neligh visiting Mr. and Mrs. M. M. Crosser and son, Jerry. Mr. and Mrs. James Coventry entertained the Pinochle club on Sunday evening at their home. (Mrs. Coventry served lunch at a late hour. Mr. and Mrs. Jiim Ferris and daughter, of Morse Bluff, spent the weekend here with relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Ira Watson and family took Mrs. Cliford Opper and daughter, Susan, to Omaha Sunday where they continued on to New York by plane and from there will go to Germany to be with their husband and father, Col. C. R. Opper. John Conard returned Friday from Empire, Ore., where he vis ited his brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Conard. Miss Luella Watson, who at tends college at Wayne, spent the weekend visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Watson. Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Watson and Luella were Sunday dinner guests in the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Watson and family in O’Neill. Mrs. E. L Watson took her daughter to Wayne on Monday where she attends college. Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Chaffin and family were Saturday, Jan uary 19, supper guests at the Mark Hendricks home. Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Poess necker and family were Sunday afternoon, January 20, visitors at the Clarence Focken home. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Hendricks and Nina were O’Neill visitors on Tuesday, January 15. Mrs. Hend ricks attended the Holt county council of extension clubs meet ing in the courthouse. Shirley Dobrovolny spent the weekend at the Alvin Heiser home. The annual Sandcreek town ship meeting was held Tuesday evening, January 15, at the home of Alex Forsythe with 22 men in attendance. After the business meeting was finished the men en joyed an oyster supper. Mr. and Mrs. O. A. Hammer berg and their granddaughter, Carla Samms, and Alex Forsythe were Sunday, January 20, dinner guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. George Beck. Mr. and Mrs. FYank Kilmurry and daughter, Patricia, also P. W. Kilmurry were O’Neill visitors Wednesday,jJanuary 16. Mrs. Kil murry and Patricia visited an aunt, Mrs. Roy Judge, and had dinner at the home of another aunt, Mrs. Dick Minton, both of O’Neill. Rev. and Mrs. Asa Woods were Monday afternoon, January 14, visitors at the Joe Hendricks home and dinner guests the same day at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Mark Hendricks. Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Focken and daughter, Marjorie, made a trip to Springfield, Mo. They left Friday, January 11, and returned Tuesday evening, January 15. Mrs. John Ross and son stayed with Frankie and did the chores. Markita Hendricks spent the weekend at the Bob Cearns home. Mr. and Mrs. Omer Poynts were dinner guests at the home of her mother, Mrs. J. R. Jarvis, Saturday. January 19. Mrs. Connie Frickel stayed with her mother, Mrs. Edna Hendricks, while the Mark Hend ricks family attended the funeral of William Backhaus Saturday, January 19. Neighbors of the Chester And erson family gave them a fare well party at the Hans Lauridsen home Friday evening, January lo. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Bausch, and father, Steve Bausch, visited the Ray and Rex Coburn home on Thursday evening, January 17. Helps Remove Red War Prisoners — Daniel A. DeBacker, seaman apprentice, USN, son of Mr. and Mrs. G. C. DeBacker, of O’Neill, has arrived aboard the amphibi ?ToSot°rce landin£ craft tender, USS Satyr, after 11 months in the Far East. The commanding officer of the Satyr was designated a repre sentative for commander amphi bious force in the Far East while coordinating the movements of red prisoners of war from Pusan, Korea, to the Island of Koje. During these operations she was based in Pusan Harbor. The Satyr later assumed duties as amphibious force landing craft tender in the Far East, operating at Pusan and Suyong in Korea and Sasebo and Yokosuka, Japan. Mrs. C. E. Mr. and Mrs. John Miksch and family attended a dinner at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Tasler Wednesday evening, January 16, in honor of Martin Miksch, who left for the army January 17.
