w r\ ( S <' 500 Shivering Kids Greet Santa Claus o ^ EWING — Five hundred boys and girls gathered in Ewing Sat urday afternoon with their par ents to greet Santa Claus, who arrived on time in a red truck. Treats of candy, nuts and fruit were given the children. Djie to the subzero temperature the crowd visited with Santa at the Legion club. The free movie at the Eldorado theater was also ap predated. This activity was sponsored by the Ewing Commercial club. Gail Boies is the president. Other Ewing News The parlors of the Ewing Meth- | odist church were the scene of a i successful Christmas party Friday > evening when the members of the 1 4 Women’s Society of Christian Service gathered for this annual ! festivity. Nineteen members sat ! down at 6:30 o’clock to a turkey dinner with all the trimmings. The table decorations were in red and green, carrying out a Christ mas scheme, arranged by Mrs. William Soence and Mrs. Earl Billings. The kitchen committee was in charge of Mrs. Florence Butler. Miss Anna Van Zandt provided entertainment in the form of games and contests. Prize winners were Mrs. J. L. Pruden, Mrs. Harold Harris and Mrs. R. B. Crellin. Numbers were drawn for the exchange of Christmas gifts. The Dartv came to a close with the sinking of Christmas car ols, with Mrs. Charles Chappell at the piano. w The American Legion and aux r iliary, of Sanders post 214, met Thursday evening at the Legion club. Thirty-five members were present in spite of the wintery weather. Dinner was served at 6:30 by the auxiliary. The menu was as follows: Baked ham, scal loped potatoes, cranberry salad, baked beans, home-made buns, pumpkin pie and coffee. After the social hour, business sessions were held by each group and on adjournment, movies provided entertainment The auxiliary also exchanged Christmas gifts. Tuesday evening. December 11, the YM Pinochle club enjoyed a 7 o’clock dinner at the Green Lantern cafe. Christmas gifts were also exchanged during the social hour. For the evening’s en tertainment the group attended the Eldorado theater. Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Merchant, of Elgin, and Mr .and Mrs. Larry Young, of Lincoln, were calling on friends and relatives in Ewing on Saturday. Richard Spittler, who is a stu dent at Creighton university. Omaha, came home Sunday to spend the holiday vacation with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lee J ° c Spittler. [ Mr. and Mrs. Sam Regan, ac companied by Mrs. Kermit Jef- ' feries, went to Omaha Wednes day, December 12, to spend the day visiting relatives. The Thursday Bridge club was entertained at the home of Mrs. 1 Lyle Dierks on the afternoon of December 13 at a Christmas par ty. Mrs. Everett Ruby was the winner of high score, and low went to Mrs. John Walker. Re freshments and a social hour with the exchange of gifts brought the party to a close. Guests were • Mrs. L. R, Sutcliffe and Mrs. John Walker. Mr. and Mrs. Hans Peterson and son, Elwood, went to Neligh on Friday to visit at the home of his mother, Mrs. Carsten Peter son. Mrs. Alvin Gibson went to Ne ljgh Tuesday evening to attend 1 the Christmas party of the NOT club, of which she is a member. Mrs. Ralph Eacker and daugh ter, Joellyn, Mrs. Jessie Angus and Miss Patricia Rotherham at tended the “Messah” which was presented at the O’Neill high school auditorium on Sunday af ternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Jen sen also attended from Ewing. Miss Netalee Maben, of O’Neill, spent the weekend at the home of Mr. and Mrs. George Jefferies Mr. and Mrs. Verge Cratty, of Clearwatey, were guests on Mon day at the George Jefferies home. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Wright en tertained Mr. and Mrs. Sam Re gan at dinner on Sunday at their home. 3 Birthday Anniversaries Noted at Dinner— Mr. and Mrs. Woodrow Gau ghenbaugh, of Emmet, celebrated triple birthday anniversaries on Sunday, December 16. They entertained in honor of Dickie Jonas, Charles Butterfield and their son. Clark, whose birth day anniversaries are on the same day. Guests were Mr. and Mrs. Jus tin Butterfield and family, of In man; Mr. and Mrs. Laurence Jo nas and Dickie and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Jonas and daughter, all of O’Neill. Miss Hiatt Hostess — Carolyn Hiatt entertained 8 girl friends at a Christmas party on Monday evening. The girls who attended the party were Verle Ralva, Elizabeth Schaffer, Pat DeBolt, Phyllis Harmon, Di ane McAdams, Mary Lou Conard, Hazel Johnson and Clarice John son. Christmas gifts were exchanged. A late lunch was served. Penney Employees Feted— G. C. DeBacker, manager of the J. C. Penney store, entertain ed 14 of the employees and their guests at a Christmas party with a 7 o’clock dinner at the Town House on Tuesday, December 18. o -> o ** o Christmas Party for Marie* Club— Mrs. Homer Mullen was hostess to the Martez club for their an nual Christmas party held Tues day evening. After dinner at the Vl&M cafe, the guests played :ards at the Mullen home and gifts were exchanged. Prizes were j awarded to Mrs. Mabel McKenna, Miss Genevieve Biglin, Mrs. W. J. Gamble Employees n Yule Party— The annual Christmas party for Gamble store employees and quests was held Tuesday evening, j December 18. Dinner was served to 26 at the Town House followed by a card party, gift exchange and refresh ments at the home of Burl Mun sell, store manager. Mrs. Ray Honored— Mrs. J. W. Rooney entertained at a luncheon at the M&M cafe and handkerchief shower Wed nesday afternoon, December 12, m honor of Mrs. Hugh Ray, who soon will be leaving for her new home at Loveland, Colo. CDA in Yule Party — The members of the Catholic Daughters of America held the Christmas party Tuesday, Decem ber 18, at the Knights of Colum bus hall. A turkey dinner was served at 7 o’clock followed by games and gift exchange. There were about 60 guests present. Teachers Hold Party— The teachers in the O’Neill pub lic school held their annual Christmas party in the school on Monday, December 17, with a 6 o’clock dinner. Yule Party— The members of the Justa club met Sunday evening with a din ner at the Town House. Gifts were exchanged. rm Gallagher plan to leave Friday for LaCrosse, Wise., to visit their uncle, Dr. E. E. Gallagher, and their brother and his wife, Dr. and Mrs. Frank Gallagher, and family for the holidays. Mrs. Augusta McPharlin will go to Omaha today (Thursday) from where she will board a plane for California to spend Christmas with her sons, Eldon, of Los Angeles and Dr. J. H. Mc Pharlin, of Salinas. Mr. and Mrs. Edward Campbell will entertain relatives at a din ner Sunday at the M&M cafe in honor of their son, Edward, who will be'home for the holidays. Mrs. Ellen Sullivan has received word from her daughter, Mrs. Bob Burk, that her husband, a naval officer, has been ordered to re port to San Diego, Calif., for sea duty on December 26. He has been on shore duty in Corpus Christi, Tex. Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Simmons, of Cherokee, la., visited over the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. C. K. McManus. The Iowans are con templating a business venture here. Dr. and Mrs. H. D. Gildersleeve 1 and daughters departed Saturday ' for Los Angeles, Calif., where they will spend the holidays with Doctor Gildersleeve’s mother. They traveled by auto. Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Froelich will be hosts at a Christmas eve par ty for their relatives. Visitors at the home of Mrs. A. E. Derickson last Thursday were John Derickson and George Kruse, both of Dorsey.
