Driver of Car Killing Lad Faces Charges Charges of “motor vehicle homicide” were filed in Antelope county court December 6 against Allan Kennedy, the man whose car struck and killed Paul W. Jenkins on highway 53 west of Elgin September 10. The charges were filed by Ant elope County Attorney Ralph S. Kryger and the complaint in county court alleges that Mr. Kennedy, who lives at the “Four Corners” 24 miles west of Elgin, was under the influence of alco hol and was driving on the wrong side of the road at Jhe time of the accident. Vehicle homicide, a lesser of fense than manslaughter, is con tended to occur when a driver is engaged in the unlawful opera tion of a vehicle and, without malice, causes a death. Convic tion carries a fine not to exceed $500 and possible imprisonment. No dates have been set for hearing the case. Ten-vear-old Paul Jenkins, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Jen kins. was killed just after he left a car driven by Charles Fuller, of Elgin, and was walking to the family’s mail box 9 miles west of Elfin. Mr Fuller was taking the Jenkins lad and 2 others home from school when the accident occurred. Eastern «*ar Elects New Officers — The Order of the Eastern Star met at the IOOF hall in O’Neill on Thursday. December 13. Mrs. • James McMahan, of Inman, was elected worthy matron; A. E. Bowen, worthy patron: Mrs. A. E. Bowen, associate matron; H. Q. Kruse, associate patron; Mrs. Clarence Hansen, of Inman, con ductress; Mrs. D. C. Schaffer, as sociate conductress; Mrs. Esther Cole Harris, treasurer, and Mrs. J. D. Osenbaugh, secretary. Other officers will be appointed and all officers will be* installed at the chanter meeting Thursday, January 10. Congressman Here — Congressman A. L. Miller, Ne braska’s Fourth district repre sentative, was in O’Neill Fri day. He lunched with a few friends, conducted an informal meeting at the courthouse in the afternoon. Doctor Miller was driving his own car, and went from, O’Neill to Pierce to spend the weekend with relatives. Entertains 14 Guests — Mrs. J. L. Donovan entertained 14 guests in honor of her son, Bil ly, who was 10 years old on Sun day, Decemhber 16. The children attended the the ater in the afternoon. Refresh ments consisting of ice cream and cake were served after the show. Gift Exchange— The members of the Martez club held a Christmas party on Tuesday, December 18, with a din ner at 7:30 o’clock at the M&M cafe. After dinner there was an exchange of gifts and cards were played at the home of Mrs. Larry Johnson.
