Yule Gift Exchange

INMAN—The annual Arbutus
Rebekah lodge Christmas party
and gift exchange was held here
Wednesday evening, December
12, at the IOOF hall
The party followed the regular
business meeting. Christmas carol
singing was enjoyed and the gift
0 exchange was held. Refreshments
in keeping with the yule season
were served.
The party was in charge of Mrs.
Ruth Watson, Mrs. Maretta Niel
sen and Mrs. Jessie Smith. Host
esses were Mrs. Marjorie Kelley,
Miss Elsie Krueger, Mrs. Muriel
Luben and Mrs. Helen Van Horn.

Miss Deritha Smith, of Norfolk,
spent the weekend visiting her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. K. F.
Smith. 0
LeRoy Moore, Ralph Sholes and
Harlan Morsbach, who are em
o
ployed with the Northwestern
Bell Telephone company, spent
the weekend with relatives and
friends.
Ernest Trowbridge left Sunday
for California, where he will
make an extended visit.
The Pinochle card club met on
Saturday evening at the Elmer
Krueger home. Christmas gifts
were exchanged. The hostess
served a lunch at a late hour.
Prizes were won by the follow
ing: Mrs. Ken Coventry and Bill
Kelley, jr., high score; Mrs. Chris
Reimers and James Kelley, low
score; Fred Moore, pinochle prize.
Mrs. George Coleman, sr., was
hostess to the Coffee club Thurs
day. Mrs. Earl Watson was as
sistant hostess. A covered dish
luncheon was served at noon.
Christmas party and gift ex
change was held in the afternoon.
The pep club of the Inman high
school held a bake sale Saturday
at Neilsen’s store. Proceeds were
added to the treasury.
S/Sgt. Howard Clark, of Offutt
air base, Omaha, spent the week
end with his parents, Mr. and
Mrs. E. E. Clark.

HELPS PROCESS TROOPS ...
Cpl. Vernon H. Dahlberg, (a
bove), son of Mr and Mrs. El
mesr Dahlberg, of Lynch, is a
clerk-typist in Seoul, Korea, a
bout 70 miles behind the front
lines. He helps process the men
on rotation. He arrived at Seoul
last May. In September he was
flown to Japan for a week of
additional schooling. Corporal
Dahlberg enlisted in the army
in December, 1950, and took his
basic training at Ft. Riley,
Kans. On March 28, he came
home for a 2-weeks’ furlough.
He then was sent to Camp
Lawton, Wash., where he em
barked on a ship for Japan,
later going to Korea. Some time
ago he met an old schoolmate,
Raymond Johnson, of Bristow.
Corporal Dahlberg is a gradu
ate of the Lynch high school.
Inman School Dismisses
for Yule Recess —
INMAN — After the Inrman
school’s annual Christmas pro
gram the night of December 20,
Santa was the main attraction,
especially to all the little folks. He
gave candy to all members of the
school and all small visitors. As
usual jnany of the youngsters
were tongue-tied at the sight of
the wonderful old gentleman —
none were too bashful, however,
to accept the treats he offered
though.
Christmas vacation will begin
at .Inman on December 21, at 3
p.m., and will extend to Wednes
nay, January 2.
Dr. W. J. Finley plans to spend
Chirstmas with his son-in-law
and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Gow
an Miller, at St. Paul, Minn.

visit in the city with Mrs. Sam

Cole. . . The Short Line passenger
pulled in with a disabled engine
Monday amid the cold and snow
and was laid up for repairs next
morning, inconsequence of which
Tuesday’s train was 2 hours late.
. . Not since the winter of the
big blizzard has the temperature
reached so low a mark this early
in the winter. With 5 inches of
snow on the ground the mercury
fell to 30 degrees below zero. . . .

Carson-Darnell
Nuptials Said
LYNCH—Doris Carson and Er
nest J. Darnell were married at
Omaha in the First Methodist
church Saturday, December 8.
Rev. E. W. Perry performed the
double-ring ceremony.
Mr. and Mrs. Leland Stewart,
former Lynchites, were the at
tendants.
Mrs. Darnell has been attending
business college and Mr. Darnell
is employed at the Nebraska
school for deaf in Omaha. He is
the only son of Mr. and Mrs. Er
nest K. Darnell, of Lynch.
Miss Marilyn Holsclaw, daugh
ter of Mr. and" Mrs. F. H. Hols
claw, is expected home from Lin
coln on Saturday, December 22.
She plans to spend the holidays
with her parents.
Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Lamb re
turned Monday evening, Decem
ber 17, from a 2-months’ visit
with friends and relatives in Kan
sas.

Progressive pitch was played at

Johnson were high prize winners,
Mrs. Bill Hibbs and Fred Krug
man, second prize winners. Bill
Derickson won the traveling prize.

Mrs. Ed Tharnish and Cleone
Coje are new members.
Each took a gift to exchange
and the gifts were placed under
the Christmas tree, to be handed
out. Those unable to guess their
secret friend will entertain the
others at a party to be held some
time in the future.
The new officers will preside
at the next meeting to be held
January 9, at the home of Mrs.
Roland Miller.
The hostess served a lunch of

potato chips, pie-ala-mode and
coffee at the close of the after

Mr. and Mrs. Fred Grage are
going to Ewing on Christmas eve .
for an oyster supper and the
opening of Christmas gifts at the
home of their son-in-law and
daughter, Mr. and Mrs. John
Walker, and son, Bobby. Other
