Sharon Shald, of Gordon, and Shirley Shald, of Stuart, were riding with Miss Gans. The accident occurred about 4 ' miles northeast of Stuart on a •ountry road. The girls received •nor cuts and bruises, and the c*r was badly damaged. The Women’s Society of the Community church realized over 4300 from the chicken dinner, bazaar and food sale which they held Saturday, December 1, in the church basement. Supt. K. C. Paul took Jean Cobb, Wilma Kaup and Dick Shald to Valentine for the north central declamatory contest on Friday, November 30. Jean Cobb received an “excellent” in the poetry division; Dick Shald received an “excellent’ ’ rating in the humorous division and Wil ma Kaup, a good rating in the dramatic division. -- o Frontier for printing 1 o Award Prizes in Worm Hole Contest — The Golden Keys club met on Friday, November 30. President Mike Schaaf called the meeting to order. There were no addi tions or corrections to the min utes of the last meeting. The roll call was answered with the name of a town in Nebraska. Last week the prizes were awarded to the people without any worm holes in tneir apples. The first prizes were awarded to Karen Bates, Judy Mlinar, Don na Perry and Linda Serck. There were also second and third prizes given to the children with only 1 or 2 worm-holes in their apples. We received our savings stamps. Ewing Rancher's Eye Is Punctured— EWING — A piece of wire struck James Bartak, of near Ew ing, in the left eye Friday, punc turing the eye and damaging other eye tissue. The 21-year-old rancher was hospitalized at Nor folk late Friday afternoon and his condition Saturday was reported as “good." The accident occurred shortly after noon Friday when Bartak was riding fence on the Bartak ranch near Ewing. Alone at the j time the wire punctured his eye when he attempted to pull the, loose strand from the ground. He j remounted his horse and rode to the ranch house where he got a car and drove 22 miles to Ewing. There he met his mother and was taken to the Norfolk hospital. Young Bartak’s eye has been stitched and he will be kept un der close care for several days. There is some doubt as to wheth er he will ever regain use of the eye, but doctors believe it will not be necessary to remove it. FASHIONABLE INDEED. . . Deloit Represented at Bureau Parley _ i DELOIT—The 33d annual con vention of the farm bureau was held at Lincoln on November 26, 27 and 28. Those from Deloit at-, tending were Mr. and Mrs. Anton Shavlik, Mrs. Charles Bartak, jr.,1 and Mrs. Henry Reimer. Five members from south of Bartlett also attended. Highlights of the convention were programs, a banquet Tues day evening and a Chinese style luncheon Wednesday noon. A. L. Miller and Senator Butler attended the banquet at Lincoln. A number of farm bureau mem bers attended a meeting at Al bion on Friday evening where Charles Marshall, state president, was guest speaker. Avard, of O’Neill, is substituting as teacher in the pri mary room of the Chambers school while the teacher, Mrs. Wayne Smith, is ill. The Rebekah lodge of Cham bers will hold their Christmas party on Friday, Dectmber 14, at the IOOF hall. Each member is asked to come and bring a gift of 50- to 75-cents in value for the gift exchange. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Adams and children moved Friday and Sat urday from north of O’Neill, where they have been employed on a ranch, to her parents’ home in Chambers. They expect to go onto a farm north of town as soon as possible. Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Mitchell and daughter, of Neligh, were guests of Bill Majors Saturday.
