Knights Initiate 25 New Members Twenty-five candidates were initiated into the Charles Car roll of Carrollton council 701, of the Knights of Columbus, in cer emonies here Sunday. The day began with corporate communion at St. Patrick’s Catholic church. The initiation took place in the O'Neill public school auditorium in the afternoon. Candidates were: Fred R. Deermer, of Atkinson; George A. Janousek, of O’Neill; Leo J. O’Malley, of Chambers; Glen Cobb, of Stuart; George A. Miles, of O’Neill; Alvin Krysl, of Stuart. John Vitt, of O’Neill; Merton L. Dierks, of Ewing; Martin J. Miksch,, of Stuart; Raymond C. Wagman, of Atkinson; Joseph A. Krobat, of Stuart; Donald C. v Kramer, of Atkinson; Charles E. *- Chace, of Atkinson. Wilbur B. Miller, of O’Neill; Dale A. Kersenbrock, of O’Neill; Joseph A. Grutsch, of O’Neill; Eugene F. Kramer, of Stuart; James D. Curran, of O’Neill; William W. Watson, of O’Neill. Thomas E. Abbenhaus, o f Butte; John E. Troshynski, of Atkinson; Thomas W. Scholberg, of O’Neill; John H. Abbenhaus, of Butte; Andrew Schmidt, of O’Neill; Gerald J. Troshynski, of Atkinson. Danquei in uie evening wao served to 200 persons, including the Knights, their ladies and oth er guests. Principal speaker was Very Rev. Carl M. Reinert, S.J., pres ident of Creighton university, Omaha. His topic: “Secularism in M Education." Father Reinert’s talk, flavored with innumerable jokes and an ecdotes, proved informative and entertaining. It was one of the finest talks heard here in recent years, a KC spokesman said. The Legion auxiliary served the banquet. Matthew G. Beha was master-of-ceremonies. Very Rev. Timothy O’Sullivan, St. Pat rick’s church, offered invocation. Francis J. Gilg. grand knight %' Charles Carroll council, issued the welcome, followed by remarks from Cyril P. Shaughnessy, state deputy grand knight. Mrs. Joseph Hansen, the former Kathleen Flood, offered several soprano vocal selections, including “When Irish Eyes Are Smiling.” New members were heard in their im 4 pressions of the day after which Father Reinert delivered his ad dress. Father O’Sullivan offered the benediction. The menu included tomato juice, lettuce and mayonnaise salad, oven brown potatoes, peas, relish plate, baked ham. rolls, butter, jelly, pumpkin pie and . coffee. Ensemble Pleases Large Crowds— , A large crowd heard the New York Concert Ensemble in a pro gram of semi-classical and class ical music Monday evening at the O’Neill public school auditorium. The 5 artists, a bass-baritone, a soprano, an Oriental and Spanish ^ dancer, a violinist and a pianist, w were brought to O’Neill by the Chamber of Commerce. There was on admission charge. During the afternoon there was a matinee performance for school children. The Chamber has received many congratula tory messages from appreciative members of the audience. Yanlzi-Derickson Nuptials Monday— Mr. and Mrs. Levi Yantzi, QT O’Neill, announce the approach ing marriage of their daughter, Miss Nancy Lee Yantzi, to Sam uel Derickson, son of William Derickson, of Star. The marriage will take place at St. Patrick’s Catholic church in O’Neill on Monday, October 22. The couple will entertain their friends at a wedding dance that evening at the American Legion auditorium. Atkinson C of C Names Chairmen— ATKINSON — The Atkinson Chamber of Commerce has made committee appointments. The following are the committe chair men: Roads—J. L. Berigan. Recreation—Rev. E. G. Keith E. — The Frontier EhigravInK Miss Mavis Jene Forsch Anspach, son of Mr. and Mrs. Hardin Anspach, of O’Neill. Miss Forsch is a graduate of the Butte high school. She is now , employed in the telephone office in O’Neill. Private Anspach graduated from the O’Neill public school and also attended the Norfolk college of business. He is now in the air force stationed at the Albrook air base in Panama. No wedding date has been set. Children Injured in Play ai Clearwater— CLEARWATER—The 2 sons of Mrs. Dale Meiers, who was vis iting with her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. George Lambert, here Sunday, collided while running in the Lambert home. One child required 2 stitches to close a wound on his forehead and the other required one stitch to close a similar wouqpl. The boys are 3 and 4 years of age. Mrs. Meiers’ daughter was also there. The Meiers family left Monday by bus for Kansas where Mr. Meiers is stationed. He is an air force mechanic, recently trans ferred to Kansas from Seattle, Wash. _i Californians Visit Briefly Enroute— W. B. Stannard, of Long Beach, Calif., Tuesday stopped at the home of his mother, Mrs, Da vid Stannard, and 2 sisters, Eve lyn Stannard and Mrs. Laura Burke, enroute to his home from the East, where he has been on business. With him were Mr. and Mrs. Browder, also of Long Beach. Mr. Browder is the president of the Occident Life Insurance Co. ! Sullivan Brothers Stopover Here— “Montana Jack” and Daniel Sullivan, brothers, formerly of O’Neill, stopped off here Tues day enroute to their homes at Butte, Mont., from South Bend, Ind., where they had driven to witness the Southern Methodist Notre Dame football game. They remained over Wednesday and were to continue on their way early today (Thursday).
