Boyd Official
Dies in Auto
BRISTOW — Boyd County
Commissioner B. H. Kline, prom
inent Bristow resident, died un
expectedly about noon Saturday
while he was driving his automo
bile home from a visit to the R.
H. Johnson ranch in Holt county.
Arthur Reed found Mr. Kline
dead in the car about half a mile
from the ranch. The car had left
the road and had run into a
fence.
Doctors summoned stated that
Mr. Kline had died instantly.
He had gone to the Johnson
ranch south of the Spencer
dam. Saturday morning.
Mr. Kline operated . a meat
market in Bristow many years,
and later had a general merchan
dise, grocery and meat store here.
Since his retirement he had
been active in politics and Ma
sonic lodge work. He was county
commissioner representing Bris
tow and Morton precincts.
He was a veteran of World
War I.
Mr. Kline is survived by his
wife and several nieces and
nephews.
Page Group Prepares
for Achievement Day
PAGE—Thirteen members of
the Golden Rule project club met
Friday afternoon, October 12, at
the home of the president, Mrs. R.
V. Crumly, who called the meet
ing to order at 2 o’clock. Roll call
was answered by giving a recent
item of humor in the news.
The president gave an interest-'
ing report of the council meeting
held in O’Neill on /Tuesday, Octo
ber 9. Theie was a discussion on
achievement day which will be
October 19, and it was decided to
prepare a booth.
Music leader, Helen Riege, took
charge and had some especially
prepared numbers, also some
games and stunts in which all
took part.
The annual contest losers invit
ed the winners to a masquerade
pay off party at the home of
Elizabeth Matschullat.
The leaders, Kathryn Nissen
and Leila Snell, then gave the les
son which was on “Personal Cred
it Inventory.”
The next meeting will be at the
home of Mrs. Wm. Fink on No
vember 13 and each is to wear “an
original hat.”
Mrs. Crumly served lunch at
the close of the meeting.

October 10. There were 17 mem
bers present and several guests.
Mrs. R. D. Copes and Mrs. Har

Mrs. George Clasey gave a report
of the council meeting she had
attended in O’Neill on Tuesday,
October 9, and plans were made
for achievement day, October 19.
Mrs. Roger Bowen read an inter
esting paper on "fall pernnials.”
The nostess served lunch at the
close of the afternoon.
Mrs. Elsie Cork accompanied
her son, Lloyd Cork, and family,
of O’Neill to Norfolk, Sunday
where they attended the Parks
family reunion. On their return
home they visited Mrs. Elsie
Cork’s sister-in-law and niece,
Mrs. Lula Clemensen, and Mrs.
Guy Taylor.
Mr. and Mrs. Lowell Miller and
Mrs. Arnold Stewart left Monday
morning for Sibley, la., where
they will attend the funeral of
their aunt, Mrs. Martin Miller.
Mr. and Mrs. Russell Sorensen
and daughter, of Creighton, and
Mr. and Mrs. Soren Sorensen, jr.
and daughter, of Page, were
guests Sunday at the home of Mr.
and Mrs. Charles Sorensen and
family.
Mrs. Eva Murten, of Blair, and
Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Smith and
family and Ernest Trowbridge, of
Inman, were dinner guests Sun
day of Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Smith
and Linda.
Mr. and Mrs. Roy Zellers and
daughter, Dorothy, and grand
daughter, Nelta King and Mr. and
Mrs. Soren Sorensen, sr., spent
Sunday at the George Zellers
home at Chambers.
Dinner guests Sunday of Mr.
and Mrs. Robert Nissen and fam
ily were Mr. and Mrs. Verne Riege
and family, of Orchard, and Mr.
and Mrs. R. V. Crumly and 2 sons
and Mr. and Mrs. Lorenze Riege
and daughter.
Mr. and Mrs. Otto Matschullat
spent Saturday and Sunday in
Bloomfield with their daughter,
and 2 children.
Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Heiss and
family spent the weekend in Lin
coln at the home of Mrs. Heiss’
brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and
Mrs. Lester Brady.
Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Stewart
left Friday for Johnson county
where they plan to spend 10 days
visiting with relatives.
The Just—A-Mere club met Fri
day afternoon with Mrs. C. A.
Townsend with 7 members pres
ent. A dessert lunch was served.
The ladies played rook during the
afternoon.
Mr. and Mrs. Guts Robinson
and their son-in-law and daugh
ter, Mr. and Mrs. Dee Grass,
drove to Wood River, Sunday,
to visit another son-in law and
daughter, Rev. and Mrs. Lester
Hart, and family. They all re
turned Monday.
The Contract Bridge club met
Thursday evening with Mrs.
Carl Max. Mrs. La Verne Fin
ley was a guest. Mrs. Herbert
Steinberg held high score and
Mrs. Emma Dorr received the
all-cut prize.
Mr. and Mrs. Otto Matschullat
drove to Creighton, Wednesday,
October 10, where they attended
to business matters.
Mrs. Walter Wegner, sr., and
Walter, jr., and M arjorie, of
Scribner, spent Saturday night,
October 6, with Mrs. Wegner’s
mother and brother, Mrs. Helen
Steinberg and John. She was
called here by the death of her
brother-in-law, Carl Clemans, of
Creighton.
Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Steinberg,
of Page, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd
Steinberg, of Orchard, and Walter
Wegner, sr„ and 2 chldren, of
Scribner, attended funeral serv
ices at Creighton at 2:30 p.m., at
the Methodist church for Carl
Clemans, 63, who fell when a scaf
fold gave way at a farm home
near Creighton, and passed away
without regaining consciousness.
He is survived by his wife, the
former Marie Steinberg.
Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Heiss,
Mr. and Mrs. Richard Asher and
Mr. and Mrs. Paul Hartigan left
Wednesday, October 3, on a vaca
tion and fishing trip to Minnesota.
The Help U club met Wednes
day, October 3, with Mrs. Vince
Jackson for an all-day meeting
with 16 members present. Mrs.
Sam Caskey was a guest. A no
host dinner was served. The after
noon was spent sewing carpet
rags for the hostess. The next
meeting was to be October 17 with
Mrs Soukup.
Mr. and Mrs. Otto Terrill, of
Page, and Mr. and Mrs. Arthur
Terrill, of Rembrandt, la., drove
to Miltonvale, Kans., Thursday,
October 4, to attend the annual
harvest home day at the Wesley
an Methodist college on Friday
and to visit their daughters, the
Misses Joan and Audrey Terrill,
who are students at the college.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Russell
and 3 daughters and Mr. and Mrs.
J. R. Russell drove to Polk, Sun
day, October 7, where they vis
ited in the home of Mr. and Mrs.
Mrs. G. C. Lampshire. Other din
ner guests were Mr. and Mrs. Roy
Nelson and daughter, Janet, and
Mrs. Marvin McKenzie and baby
all of Lincoln. Mrs. Lampshire
and Mrs. Nelson are daughters of
Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Russell. Mrs.
McKenzie is the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Lampshire.
Mr. and Mrs. Lester Riege and
daughter Bonnie, of Page, and
Mr. and Mrs. Verne Riege and
family, of Orchard, visited Sunday
afternoon, October 12, in the Wm.
Riege, sr. and Wm. Riege, jr.
homes at Norfolk. They were sup
per guests of Mr. and Mrs. Wm.
Riege, jr.
Mrs. Minnie Haynes trucked her
household goods to Wayne recent
ly. She will imake her home
with her mother, Mrs. Ida Frey.
Mrs. Finn Landreth of Thayer,
la., left Tuesday, October 9, after
visiting for 2 weeks at the home
of her son, Mike Landreth, and
family.
