Mr and Mrs. Paul Menkens and family, of O’Neill, visited in Page Sunday with her parents, Mr and Mrs. Bill Klintobe. Mr. and Mrs. Menkens were celebrat ing their 16th wedding anniver Mr. and Mrs. Alan VanVleck went to Neligh on Friday. Sep tember 7, to attend a gathering in honor of Mr. VanVleck’s par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Van Vlecks’, 40th wedding anniver sary. Msr. Joe Langan, of Columbus, spent Tuesday visiting here. She brought Mrs. John DeWitt and children home after a weeks vis it there. . Mr. and Mrs. M. M. Langan re turned Thursday, September 0, from Wichita Falls, Tex., where they visited their son. James They were accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Jess Wills whose son, Ronald, is also at the Shepperd air base in Wichita Falls. Mrs. Steve Wallace and son, of Omaha, arrived Thursday. Sep tember 6, to visit a week with Mr Wallace’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. M. J. Wallace. They will return home on Friday. Rev. and Mrs. Melvin Grosen-; bach and their guest, Mrs. Blanche York, of Long Beach, Calif., were Monday, September 10, dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Strong and family. Visitors this week of Mr. and Mrs. L. C. Walling are Mr. Wal ling’s brother, H. F. Walling, and his nephew, LeRoy Walling, of Vancouver, Wash. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Greene and Miss Genevieve McManus were Sunday afternoon visitors of Mr. and Mrs. Ai Sauser. Dean Towle, of Omaha, visited over the weekend with his par ents. Mr. and Mrs. V. J. Towle. On Sunday they went to Norfolk to visit Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Towle and family. Mr. and Mrs. Leo Tomjack vis ited in Grand Island on Wednes day, September 5. Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Egan and son. Gene, of Ellsworth, Minn., arrived Friday to spend the week end with their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. John H. McCarville, and Michael. Mr. and Mrs. Douglas R. Leach spent labor day weekend in Burwell visiting Mrs. Leach’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy And erson, and daughters, and Mr. Leach’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Leach, and Barney. Mr. and Mrs. N. D. Hansen, of Sioux Falls, S.D., and their daughters, Mrs. Loyal Kolbrek and Mrs. Harvey Garver, of Washington, D.C., visited at the home of Mr. and Mrs. George Hansen Sunday afternoon. They also visited Mrs. Carrie Borg, who is their sister. Miss Jean Head, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Head, is leaving Saturday for Alliance where she is in her junior year at the Sisters of St. Frances school of nursing. Mr. and Mrs. Harley Heermann, of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Mr. and Mrs. Harold Lewis, of Spring view. visited Friday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Fred O. Heer mann. Knights Witness Big Angus Sale— Mr. and Mrs. Freeman Knight and Mr. and Mrs. Fora Knight returned Wednesday, September 5. from a tour of Iowa and Illi nois. They were in search of an Angus herd bull in connection with their livestock operations.'. The Knights were impressed with an Angus auction they at tended west of Pleasant Plains, 111. The top selling bull brought $55,000; the top female, $25,500. Twenty head of Angus averaged $20,330 each. Freeman Knight is secretary of the Holt County Aberdeen-Angus association. ^ Hoerle-Walter Nuptials Are Told CHAMBERS— Miss Mary Lou Walter, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. D. Walter, of Cham bers, was united in marriage to Marvin E. Hoerle, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Hoerle, of Chambers, on June 2. The ceremony was performed ' at Reno, Nev., by D. W. Priest. The bride wore a navy blue suit with white accessories. Her bridesmaid, Viola Given, wore a grey suit with white accessor ies. , , j The bridegrooom, attired in his navy blue uniform, was attended by a friend, Bernard Buchanan. The young couple resided in San Diego, Calif. When Marvin reported for sea duty, Mrs. Hoerle returned to Chambers to stay with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter. Mrs. Hoerle reached Chambers ( this week. ■ ■- ■ — ■■ Infant Son Dies • Enroute East AMELIA — Mr. and Mrs. Lee Sammons received a message Fri day from their daughter, Mrs. Andy Robak, of Cheyenne, Wyo., that their 2-months-old son, James, had passed away. Sergeant and Mrs. Robak and baby were enroute to visit Mr. Robak’s parents and had gotten to Indiana when the baby sud denly died. Other Amelia Newt Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Waldo, ac companied by her sister and hus band, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Vascio, of Omaha, were vacationing in the Black Hills the past week. Roger Waldo stayed with his grandpar ents, Mr. and Mrs. B. W. Waldo, while they were away. Darla and Debra stayed with their grand mother, Mrs. Frank Searles, who lives near O’Neill. ! Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Rees visit ed in Lincoln with their son. Bill Rees, and family. This was the first time they had seen their lit tle granddaughter, Linda Kay Rees. The WSCS members, of Amelia, were guests of the Chambers WSCS at a birthday party on Thursday, September 6. There were 9 members from Amelia present. The party was in honor of the organizing of the WSCS. Miss Glenice Jean White, Char les Atkinson, Gaylord and Leon ard Luginsland went to McPher son. Kans., last week where they are attending Central college. Mrs. Etta Ott received a letter from Mrs. Julia White stating that her daughter, Mrs. Frank Braddoek, who she is visiting at Rapid City, was in the hospital. Mr. and Mrs. S. C. Barnett went to Brunswick the first Dart of the week to get Mr. Barnett’s sister, Mrs. Eva Sparrow, and bring her home with them for a visit. 600 Hogs, 600 Cattle Are Marketed Here There were about 600 head of hogs at the O’Neill Livestock market Thursday. September 6. Butcher hogs were quoted from $20.25 to $20.50; sows. $18.40 to $18.70; stags. $14.50 to $15.00. There was a pretty fair run of feeder pigs selling up to $24.50 per hundredweight. There were about 600 cattle through the O’Neill ring Thurs day. Good kinds of yearling steers brought $34.00 to $37.00; year ling heifers, $28.00 to $32.00. There was a consignment of 900 pound whiteface steers. These went for $36.10. Good kind of cows were selling from $24.50 to $26.00, on down to $17.00 on poorer quality cows.
