B. Hubbard residence in O’Neill and will take possession August 1. The Thor ins recently returned from a 4,890-mile west ern trip. They were gone 18 days and visited Cheyenne, Wyo., Portland, Ore., and San Diego, Calif. Thorin reports many west coast cities and towns suffering from lack of water. Hairdressers Meet— The National Hairdressers Cos metology association held a meet ing Sunday at Margaret’s Beauty Salon. The educational program of the evening concerned the new interlocking hair shaping and styling. SICK & INJURED O’NEILL—Mrs. Alfred Sanders was taken to an Omaha hospital Wednesday, July 25, for medical treatment. . . Dale Curran enter ed St. Vincent’s hospital in Sioux City on Monday. He has been ill a month with rheumatic fever... Mrs. J. B. Grady and son, James Patrick, were released Sunday from O’Neill hospital. . . Mrs. Ruth Morgan is “improving” in an Omaha hospital, where she has been a patient for 2 weeks. . . . Paul Bourne sprained his el bow and wrist in a mishap this week. . . . Mrs. W. B. Gillespie returned Wednesday from Our Lady of Lourdes hospital in Nor folk after having had an opera tion. . . . Andy Schacht’s condi tion in the Veterans’ hospital in Grand Island is "a little better” . . . Mrs. John Rotherham, sr., came home Monday from Omaha where she had treatments on her knee that was injured recently. She is “much improved” . . . Mrs. John Jansen is “satisfactory” in Our Lady of Lourdes hospital in Norfolk. . . . Mrs. Arnie Mace, sr., is r'good” at the Lutheran hos pital in Norfolk. . . Mrs. William Egger visited her sister, Mrs. Charles Lanham, of Omaha, Wednesday and Thurs dy, July 18-19. Mrs. Lanham is home from the hospital now and is reported to be “doing fine.” . . , Mrs. Joe Cunningham arrived home from the University hospi tal after undergoing a major op eration. She was there three and a half weeks. ATKINSON — Mr. and Mrs. William Tasler are at Savannah, Mo., where Mr. Tasler is receiv ing treatment. . . Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Jones and family drove to Lincoln Tuesday evening, July 17, where Mr. Jones went to con sult ao eye specialist. He had a piece of steel in his eye and it was “very pginful.” . . Mrs. Betty Dobias is recovering at the home of her daughter, (Mrs. George Golfuss, after falling down sev eral steps and injuring herself quite badly. Mrs. Dobias lives with her son, Charley, north of Atkinson. . . . Joe Kaplan suf fered a stroke early Wednesday and was taken to the Stuart hos pital in the Seger ambulance. He was found stricken in the garden by a granddaughter. Mrs. Kaplan has been a patient at the Stuart hospital more than a week. PAGE — Mrs. Dick Woods, of Stromsburg, submitted to a ma jor operation Friday morning, July 20, at Our Lady of Lourdes hospital at Norfolk. The Woods were former residents of Page. . . . Mr. and Mrs. M. G. French drove to Sioux City Sunday to bring Mrs. French’s sister, Miss Marie Heiss, home from the Lu theran hospital, where she had been a patient for about 2 weeks following surgery. . . . ftiicky Al len returned home Wednesday, July 18, from the Methodist hos pital at Sioux City where he had been a polio patient. His mother, Mrs. Jerome Allen, will care for him at home.. Mrs. R. Wilson was dismissed last week from Our Lady of Lourdes hospital in Nor folk. A post-nuptial shower was held Sunday afternoon at St. John’s church basement for Mrs. Walter Seivers, the former Dorothy Sea man. Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Harpster visited Wednesday at the Roy Johnson home in Neligh. Mr. and Mrs. John Bauer, jr., and family and Mr. and Mrs. H. Reimer and Elayne were guests for a picnic dinner at Ralph Tom jack’s on Sunday. A few friends surprised Mrs. Sisson Saturday afternoon on her 75th birthday anniversary. Mrs. Howard Manson won a $25 bond last week in a slogan contest. Mr. and Mrs. B. A. Cratty met (Mr. and Mrs. Harlan Cratty in West Point on Sunday for a pic nic dinner. Gloria returned home with her grandparents for a visit. The young folks returned from Pibel lake Saturday morning. They reported a 5 Vi inch rain there Tuesday night, July 17. Max Pqfahl and Rose Funk were wed Tuesday morning at St. John’s church. Maxine Van Ostrand visited friends in Norfolk recently. Mrs. Stanley Huffman enter tained her bridge club from Elgin on Friday afternoon. Mrs. G. A. Bauer spent Tues day, July 17, at the Otto Kallhoff home. Martha Kinney and Mrs. Elvon Kinney visited Friday at the Maynard Stearns home. Dallas Hemenway is employed at Knieval’s store. Mr. and Mrs. Jewell Tomjack spent part of the weekend at Ralph Tomjack’s home. St. John’s baseball team played at O’Neill on Sunday. Annabelle Koenig was wed on Tuesday at 2 p.m. Sandhill Billies Will Enter Float— The Sandhill Billie* 4-H club met at the home of Asa Shermer on Saturday, July 14. We judged 2 groups of calves. Dale Garwood and Gene Shermer gave a demon stration on how to groom your calf for a show. Ray DeGroff and Dean Garwood gave a demonstra tion on how to tie the surgeon’s | knot and the spliced eye. We decided to have a 4-H float in the parade for hay days in At kinson. A committee of boys was ap pointed to work on the rope board exhibit on July 29. Two demon stration teams were voted on to demonstrate for demonstration day in O’Neill. Our next meeting is going to be at Blaine Garwood's on Saturday, August 4. This meet ing is going to be our 4-H picnic and achievement day. We are to bring a picnic lunch, our record books, and all the things we have made during the year.—By Bill Lierman, news reporter. E’lona Shavlik Shower Honoree CHAMBERS — A prenuptial shower sponsored by Mrs. John Honeywell and Mrs. Anna Al bers in honor of E’lona Shavlik was held on Friday, July 20, at the parlors of the Methodist church. Over 50 friends and relatives were present. Mrs. Kenneth Wer* ner and Mrs. Keith Sexton were in charge of the program, which consisted of a playlet, “The Fam ily Album,” accompanied by songs. Those participating in the program were: Mrs. Sexton, Mrs. Werner, Mary Lou Gartner, Mrs. Richard Haney, Ardith Farrier, Mrs. Lloyd Hilligas, Kay Eisen hauer, Joan Haas, Rose Mane Gibson, Mrs. Elwyn Robertson, Vivian Harley, Mrs. Tom Hul ton, Kay Tracey, Connie Wer ner, Karen Farrier, Nadine Sex ton, and Robert Harley.
