Prairieland Talk— 'Talk’ Editor Nits Road to Carotinas, Washington, D.C., Pennsylvania, Ohio By ROMAINE SAUNDERS t LINCOLN — Our friends, the doctors, have long been on the trail of the elusive cancer germ with various weapons tried for a knockout. Some years ago a woman came from abroad to tell her story in Yankeeland of curing herself of cancer with grape juice. Analysis of the grape discloses it is the nearest thing to human blood so far known. This la dy’s story was con s i d e r e d pretty much of a pipe dream by Romaine the professional Saunders group who held a monopoly on the remedies for human ills. But the grape has some friends. One writer in a health journal says, "they do a miraculous iob when it comes to clearing up the ravages of cancer. But they are not a part of scientific impedi menta with lots of gadgets and bewhiskered professors peering through microscopes. Grapes aie merely a portion of the natural medicines which the Almighty provided for our use.” A friend of mine was X-rayed some years ago and was told to put his house in order as he had internal cancer and would not live. He went home and put him self on a diet of citrus fruit juices. Now after the passing of nearly a quarter of a century he still lives. Grapes and oranges may not be considered orthodox, but if they do the business that is O.K. witn tne afflicted gent. • • * By the time this copy reaches the printers the writer will be on tour, according to present plans, which will leave a column or so of The Frontier open for some thing worthwhile. Maybe friends and critics of "Prairieland Talk” would like to have their say. The route for the four will lead to the Carolines where 1 have residing a daughter and her family. Then to Washing ton, D.C., for a stop with my sister, Mrs. Grace Shanner. Then to Pennsylvania, where my ancestors took root in the loth century and where now I have a son and his wife. Then to Ohio where another son has cast anchor with his family. And probably the last stop before neading back to prairieland will be where 1 had the good fortune in the long ago to be ushered into the scenes of life in a charming little city in southern Wisconsin. • • • The verdict of the Platte coun ty jury has been sustained by the iNeoraska supreme court and a gain there will be an execution at the state prison. The condemn ed, a young man with a wife and 2 children, is found guilty of a revolting crime in the butchery with a hatchet of a 16-year-old after violating her person. The delense tried to make something out of aroused sentiment in Col umbus militating against a fair trial in court lor the accused. Fair trial, indeed. That there was a court action at all speaks for or derly and lawful procedure. Such a crime is what inspires mob ac tion. The sob sisters will bewail another execution, an execution only because the victim has for feited his right to life. "Whoso sheddeth man's blood, by man shall his blood be shed,” is the Divine edict. • • • In an environment apparently I not to his liking, a writer for a church publication thus sizes up this generation: “The baby is clocked, led on formulas, tossed about ai parties, whisked through traffic, transported in airplanes. Ulder grown, he is measured by personality experts, analyzed by psychiatrists, oututted from swim suit to electric train by a mail order house, made a patron of the soft drinK and candy merchants, scooped up in busses for a trip to a beehive of education, cram med witn the funnies, the radio, television and wild westerns, and then set forth, pert, precocious and pathological, as that master piece of the ages, the Twentieth century child.” • • • Some of the erudite editors, a part of that hard and fast com bination known as the Associated Press, have been playing up an incident of Czechoslovakian, methods as though a new world crisis had hit us. A reporter for the Associated Press got in bad with the Czechs and was hustled off to prison as a spy. Knowing the tribe as we do, newspaper guys venture in where angels fear to tread, and apparently the Czechs don’t like that. Nebraska (Continued on page 7.)
