Mrs. Alma Thorell, Lynch teacher, has returned to her home in Bristow following major surgery at a Norfolk hospi tal. . . Mrs. Marvin Petersen, Lynch teacher, is “improved” at a Norfolk hospital. . . On Tuesday, June 19, Clair Grimes took his brother and wife to Rochester, Minn., where Mr. Grimes remained for medical care. . . Darrell Lee Gil lette underwent a minor opera tion in Our Lady of Lourdes hos pital in Norfolk Monday. . . Mrs. Leo Hanna left Our Lady of Lourdes hospital in Norfolk on Monday. PAGE— Mrs. C. C. Graves re turned home Wednesday, June 20, from Lincoln. She had taken her youngest daughter, Dorothy, to the Orthopedic hospital. She submitted to an operation on her hand. Dorothy remained at the hospital. EMMET — Word was received by Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Wedige Sunday afternoon that Mr. Wed ige’s mother had been taken ill with a heart attack. She is “im proving” at this time. . . Mrs. John Conard received word late Friday night that her stepfather. Rommie South, had been taken ill that evening. John Conard drove Mr. South to Omaha where he is now a patient at the Uni versity hospital there. ATKINSON — John Wedige, who has been critically ill at his home in Atkinson, was taken ot the Stuart Community hospital Sunday by ambulance. His condi tion is “satisfactory.” CELIA — Mr. and Mrs. Emil Colfack both had measles last week. AMELIA—A. E. Sammons has not been so well this week. Marion Harris a Ewing Bride EWING—Miss Marion Harris, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Harris, of Ewing, and Stanley Merchant, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Merchant, of Elgin, were married in a double-ring cere mony Sunday, June 17, at 3 o’ clock at the Methodist church in Elgin. Rev. Lester V. Anderson officiated. Miss Anna Mae Hill, of Ewing, was the bridesmaid and wore a beige suit with white accessories and a corsage of pink peony, wh ite daisies and mock orange bl ossoms. Bruce Merchant, brother of the bridegroom, ser ved as bestman. The ceremony was performed before an altar decorated with candelabra and baskets of peo nies. The candles were lighted preceding the ceremony by Betty Kay Conger, cousin of the bride groom and Betty June Harris, sister of the bride. Music was furnished by Mrs. I. D. Wilcox at the piano and Thelma Wilcox with the violin. The vocal solos, “I Love You Truly", sung by Betty June Har ris, and “O, Promise Me”, sung by Betty Kay Conger, followed the lighting of the candles. The bride entered on the arm of her father to the strains of “Because", played by Thelma Wilcox. She wore a blue garbar dine suit with lavender acces sories and carried a boquet of roses and mock orange blossoms. Following the ceremony, a reception was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Merchant. ‘Mrs. R. H. Fmk, of Fremont, grandmother of the bride, poured. The young couple left for Fremont where they plan to make their home. Jaunita Wright a Ewing Bride EWING—At nuptial rite in St. Peters church Tuesday, June 2t>th, Jaunita Wright became the bride of Frank Sands. The bride os the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Wright, of Ewing. The late Frank Sands and Mrs. Cecilia Sands, of Ewing, are the parents of the bridegroom. Bridal attendants were Law rence Sands and Josephine Sands, brother and sister of the bride groom. The bride wore a grey suit; the bridegroom a blue suit. Hymns were sung throughout the mass by the choir of St. Peter’s church with Mrs. Kermit Jefferies at the organ. Daisies were the principal floral decorations on the altar. Mr. and Mrs. Sands will be at home shortly near the Sands family residence. Frank will con tinue to work his mother’s place and land he has rented for him self. Omahans Here— Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Regan and son, Tom, of Omaha, spent the weekend in O’Neill visiting Mr. and Mrs. Tom Donlin, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas A. Green and the Mac Simonsons. Miss Ruth Hoffman, Holt coun ty clerk, returned Sunday from a 10-day conducted tour of the Ozark mountains. LIKE PANCAKES ? VnanwU Miss Carol Pofahl Becomes Bride of Willis Rockey EWING—Miss Carol Pofahl and Willis Rockey were married Sunday, June 24, at the Ewing Methodist church. The 2 o’clock afternoon ceremony was perfor med by Rev. C. C. Chappell. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Pofahl, of Ewing, and the bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. R. G. Rockey, also of Ewing. Vernon Rockey was best man for his brother. Ushers were Bu ford Carlson, of Orchard, brother in-law of the bridegroom, and Martin Pofahl, brother of the bri de. Given in marriage by her fath er, the bride wore a gown with a lace bodice, trimmed in tiny white satin buttons. The full skirt was of net over white satin, with a train. Her fingertip veil edged in Chantilly lace was held in place by a beaded tiara. She I carried a bouquet of white car nations in which was centered an orchid corsage all tied with white satin ribbon which hung in long streamers. Mrs. Vance Anson, a friend and schoolmate of the bride, was the matron-of-honor. Her gown was fashioned like the bride’s in pale green with matching head piece. She carried a bouquet of orchid carnations. Mrs. Pofahl chose for her dau ghter’s wedding a gown of blue and Mrs. Rockey, the bridegroom’s mother also chose a dress of blue with white accessories. Each wore a corsage of gardenias. Mrs. Po fahl, grandmother of bride, and Mrs. Leota Butler, grandmother of the bridegroom each wore a corsage of white carnations. Janice Bartak in a green for mal and Dean Pofahl in a gray suit lighted the candles. The bridegroom and his atten dant wore tan suits with white carnation boutonnieres. The fathers also wore boutonnieres of white carnations. Preceding the ceremony, Mrs. Chappell played the traditional wedding music. Miss Joellyn ; Eacher sang “I Love You Truly" ! and “Because". Following the single-ring cere mony before the altar decorated with baskets of gladioli and dai sies and candelabra, a reception, in charge of Mrs Otto Reimer, was held in the church parlors, which were decorated in the bride’s cho sen colors of green and white. The 3 - tier wedding cake surrounded by daisies and topped with miniature bride and bridegroom under a wedding bell was used as a centerpiece on the long table, flanked by bas kets of flowers and candles. The bride and bridegroom received many gifts. Mrs. Melvin Rexine had charge of the gift book. Mr. and Mrs. Willis Rockey will make their home in Ewing, where they have a house fur nished and ready for occupancy on their return from a honey moon trip. For traveling, the bride chose a suit of cocoa brown with tan accessories. Willis is a graduate of the Ewing high school in the class of 1941.He served in the air force for 3 years as a mechanic. Since his discharge he has worked with his father in the Rockey Imple ment Co. and is at present a partner of the company. Carol is a graduate of the Bar tlett high school. She chose teach ing as her profession, in which she has been engaged the past five yars. To Attend Debut— Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Ftoelich and Miss Nancy went to Chicago, HI., Sunday.
