19 Steers Struck
by Lightning, Die

Lester Boshart, who resides |
11 miles north and 1 mile east '
of O'Neill, Saturday reported
the loss of 19 head of steers
due to lightning.
The steers were huddled un
der a tree when a bolt struck
during Friday night’s storm.
Loss has been estimated at
about 5-thousand-dollars.
Coyne Sisters
Now in Paris
The Misses Veronica and Mary
Kathryn Coyne wrote their par
ents, the H. E. Coynes, on board
ship enroute to Enrope, where
they will visit points of interest.
Before embarking, they had
dinner in New York with their
sister, Dr. Nadene Coyne, and
Mrs. Bob Earley.
After they were settled aboard
ship and had sailed, mail was
distributed which brought tele
grams, letters and gifts from
well-wishers.
Intersting dinner guests on
board were Mrs. Wauneta Mitch
ell, of Atlanta, Ga.; Mr. Tracy,
an English professor at Kentucky
university, who was going to
Frankfurt, Germany, to study;
Colman Rosenbloom, a Swiss vio
linist who was going to give con
certs in Switzerland for the sum
mer, and Joe Azaro, an Amer
ican artist and sculptor who was
going to Paris for an indefinite
stay.
The ladies wrote that they
were lucky not to have been sea
sick to spoil the entertainment
that had been planned for the
voyagers.
After docking at Plymouth,
England, Wednesday, May 30,
they took a boat train to Le
Havre, France, and then left for
Paris, where they met a girl
friend, who is living in Paris.

CHAMBERS — A pre-nuptial
shower honoring Luanne Eisen
hauer was held Friday. June 1,
at the parlors of the Methodist
church. Over 100 guests were
present.
The program which represent
ed a television show, was in
charge of Mrs. Ray Hoffman,
Mrs. Bernard Hoffman and Mrs.
Gavis Wintermote. Others par
ticipating were: Jean Farrier,
Neva Jarman, Mary Lou Gart
ner, Mariaimi Hoffman, Ardith
Farrier, Kay Eisenhauer, Diane
Hoffman and Chloe Ellen Mc
Kay.
Refreshments were served by
the ladies of the Kellar Pres
byterian church.

Chambers visiting at the home
of her sister and husband, Mr.

Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Pahl and
Mary, of West Point, visited at
the home of her parents, Mr and
Mrs. Albert Larson, last week.
Mr. and Mrs. Earl Braband,
of Elgin, were guests at the home
of her brother and wife, Mr. and
Mrs. Durward Loughrey, and
family on Sunday.
Elkhorn Club in Final
Meeting of Year—
The Elkhorn extension club
held its last meeting of the year
with Mrs. Frank Grenier Thurs
day evening, May 31. Mrs. Ralph
Bauman was assisting hostess.
All but 2 members were present.
Mrs. Bob Cook, the leader, pre
sented the lesson, “The Home
maker’s Business Center in the
Kitchen.” The need for such a
center was stressed.
Mrs. Florence Schultz won the
guessing game.
The next meeting will be at
Mrs. Melvin Klingler’s Septem
ber 11.

ning. Men’s high and low were
won by Robert Schulz and Bob
Cook. Ladies’ high and low were
won by Mrs. Bob Cook and Mrs.

at a late hour. A good time was
enjoyed by all.
ESCAPES INJURY
REDBIRD— Garry Wilson had
an unusual accident Tuesday,
May 29, when the pony he was
riding fell in a listed corn row
and was unable to get up until
help came with a tractor. Luck
ily he was thrown free of the
horse.

Edward J. Condon was com
missioned an ensign in the Unit
ed States navy at a ceremony on
Monday for 25 University of Ne
braska DOTC midshipmen.
He has been ordered to active
duty aboard the USS March.

er, Mrs. John Rotherham, of In
man. and other relatives in O’
Neill.
BARAT GRADUATE . . . Miss
Helen Kubitschek, of O’Neill
(above), graduated from Barat
college, Lake Forest, 111., on
Tuesday, June 5. His eminence,
Samuel Cardinal Stritch, offi
ciated at the ceremony. Miss
Kubitschek has been a major in
the department of music. On
Sunday evening, June 3, she
was heard in her senior recital.
Her mother was among the ad
dience.

vala. They encountered snow in
the Black Hills in June.

Dr. F. J. Vincent, of Ft. Dodge,

will close his practice in Ft.
Dodge June 16. After a short vis

will report for army duty in Chi
