The Mayor appointed L. M. Merriman to fill the vacancy in the first ward created by the res ignation of L. M. Diehlman. Motion by Uhl, seconded by Golden that the Mayor’s appoint ment of L. M. Merriman to fill the vacancy in the first ward be approved. The vote on the above motion was as follows: Aye, Golden and Uhl; Nay, Asimus, Jones and Johnson Motion did not carry. Motion by Uhl, seconded by Jones that the following plumb ers’ bonds be approved, for Kelly Plumbing Service, F. J. Gilg Con tracting Co., James Davidson & Sons and The Wm. REPEALING ORDI NANCE NO. 189 A COVERING THE REGULATION OF FI R E WORKS IN THE CITY OF O’ NEILL. Be it Ordained by the Mayor and Council of the City of O’ Neill, Nebraska: Section I. That Ordinance No. 189A of the City of O’Neill, Ne braska, regulating the use of fire works and pyrotechnics, be, and the same hereby is repealed. Section II. RESOLUTION The following resolution was introduced and read by Uhl: WHEREAS, the City of O’Neill on the 9th day of January, 1951, entered into a purported contract with the Duncan Meter Company for the rental and purchase of some 150 parking meters; AND WHEREAS, an injunc tion action has been filed against the City of O’Neill, and the May or and City Council enjoining them from proceeding further with said contract; AND WHEREAS, there is doubt as to the legality and pro priety of said contract: AND WHEREAS, neither party has performed under said con tract, NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RE SOLVED by the Mayor and the Council of the City of O’Neill, that the contract of January 9, 1951, between the City of O’Neill and the Duncan Meter Corpora tion for the rental and purchase of some 150 parking meters, be and the same hereby is rescinded, cancelled and annulled. Mrs. Ruth Spangler, Ewing, Is Honored EWING—On Sunday, a sur prise party and family reunion -was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Spangler in north Ewing, honoring his mother, Mrs. Ruth Spangler, who cele brated her 70th birthday anni versary June 6. At two o’clock, a bountiful din ner was served. Mrs. Melvin Spangler baked a huge beau tifully decorated birthday cake bearing 70 candles. Th* was used as the centerpiece. Mrs. Foster Resumes As Superintendent STUART—Mrs. Donna Foster, R.N., returned to Stuart June 1 to again take up the duties as su perintendent of the Community hospital. Mrs. B. B. McKinley, R.N., who' came here from Omaha, has been superintendent the past 6 months. Mrs. Foster resigned last De cember because of ill health. Visits O'Neill After 37 Years— Max Chambers who graduated from the O’Neill high school with the class of 1913, returned to O’ Neill for a brief visit Thursday, May 31. It was his first return visit in 37 years. He was accompanied by Mrs. Chambers and their daughter. The Chambers family resides at Terre Haute, Ind., where Cham bers is a grocer. They have 2 sons. Brownies Hold Cook-Out— Brownie troop II met Monday, May 28, at Fords’ park. We had our cook-out and wore our paper skirts.
