Honestly, where do all the days go? Here I’ve been busier than a kid with 2 melting ice cream cones, and time as us ual has run out on me. The old er you get it seems, the fast er the time 11 goes. I just came Blanch* Sp*n» Pease after gathering flowers for a centerpiece for the table. I chose daffodils, bleeding heart and spirea. My reason was that was all that was in bloom! Grin. Anyway, it made a mighty •*purty” centerpiece and that’s the honest truth. One lone tulip is in bloom but by the time this reach es print there should be lots of them. The bed of daffodils which we planted last fall is still to come into bloom—if it does. Sure hope so anyway, some of them are still just breaking through the ground, and it is mid-May as this is being edited. Plum blossoms and fruit blos soms will be next and how I love them. I want to bring the flowering loveliness into the house with me. and usually do, much to the disgust of the Big Farmer, who hates seeing flowers cut. Most all of my perennials died over the winter. Must have been the “off again, on again’’ winter that we had. Shasta daisies of various kinds, pinks, dianthus, sedum, carnations, forget-me-nots and most of the other perennials are all gone. . Phlox remains, proving its sturdiness and most of the lilies are up far enough to make a good j showing and of course the faith ful iris, peonies and hemerocallis are flourishing. Even the platy-1 codons perished. While in Omaha | recently I saw some yellow for- j j sythia. Does anyone know if it j will grow this far north? It was I so beautiful in a beauty starved world. —tfw— Here's a Helpful Letter — Dear Blanche: You are calling for letters, so I’ll try and help. You had such good letters recently. The letter Mrs. Albert Pospishil wrote, she was wondering how to get off old kalsomine. When we were first married and moved into our very own home, the living room walls had about 2 or 3 coats of kalsomine on them and, of course, we pa pered over it and in a few days it had cracked and fallen off. Then I got busy with a buck et of water and cloth and wash the walls. Was it ever a job? Water was all over and it would run down my arm and my arm was tired and toward the end I would wash awhile and cry awhile. But when it was washed off to the plaster and then sized and repapered, the pa per stayed on. It’s been on for several years now and is just cracked in the corners. Now in a few days we are going to paper again and I believe I’ll wash the corners a little more and it will ROYAL THEATRE — O'NEILL — Friday and Saturday May 25, 26 SADDLE TRAMP Color by Technicolor Starring Joel McCrea, Wanda Hendrix with John Russell, John Mclntire and Jeanette Nolan. Does anyone know how I can get it back to shine like new again? I’ve tried wax, kerosene and other cleaners but they don’t seem to help. I am going to toll my pet peeve. It's this: You women all know how a husband can hurry you when getting ready to go to town, church or somewhere and you hurry and grab your purse, the baby, his bottle, a comb, a pencil and dash for the car and you have only about 10 minutes to make it in time, and then friend husband takes time to stop and roll a smoke! It never fails at our house and it sort of makes me mad. “BLUE EYES” Sincerely, —tfw— It's Nice to Know That . . . If butter is too hard to spread, put a hot bowl over it for a few minutes. Then it will soften and you can make sandwiches, even though you forgot and left the the butter in the refrigerator. Do you have a slender vase at your house you think can’t be cleaned? Fasten a piece of an old sponge on a slim stick and push it down into the vase. This is al so a good idea for cleaning bot tles, If you are going on a vacation, let bricks take care of your plants. Put as many bricks on the bottom of a tin tub as you have plants. Cover the bricks with water and stand a plant on each. The bricks will absorb enough water to keep plants in good condition for some time.
