* Double Wedding Sunday in O’Neill Methodist Church Rev. V. R. Bell officiated at the double-wedding which took place at the Methodist church at 2:30 Sunday afternoon. May 20 Miss Mildred Seger, 'daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Seger, of Atkinson, became, the bride of Erwin Van Buren, son of Mr. I and Mrs. Ralph Van Buren, of O’Neill. Miss Marlene Geary, daughter of George Haddoft Geary and the late Mrs. Geary, of Inman, be came the bride of Hubert Kiser, of O’Neill, son of the late Joseph A. Kiser and Mrs. W. D. Smith, of Yates Center, Kans. Miss Imogene Davis sang “I Love You Truly” and “The Lord’s Prayer.” Her accompanist was Mary Hartigan, of Inman. Both brides were given in marriage by their fathers. Miss Seger’s gown was of white * satin. The skirt gathered at the waist and the bertha collar was filled with net and trimmed with lace. The long sleeves pointed over her wrists. A tiara of seed pearls held the fingertip veil of lace trimmed net. Her only jew elry was a strand of pearls. She carried a white Bible and a bou quet of pink and white carna tions. . , Mrs. Robert Jonas, sister of the bridegroom, was matron-of honor. Her gown was of orcnid taffeta and was similar to that of the bride. Her headpiece was fashioned of pink and white car nations and she carried, as did all the attendants, a colonial bou quet of pastel sweet peas. All attendants also had white nylon gloves. Miss Marlene Geary wore a t gown of white rayon taffeta, princess style, with a bertha col lar filled with net. The long sleeves came to points at the wrists. Her fingertip veil was rosebuds. Her bouquet was of pink and white carnations and held in place with tiny white she carried her mother’s class ring and a white handkerchief that had belonged to her grand mother. ,, Her attendants w r e Mrs. George Geary, of Conrad, Mont., sister of the bride, and Miss Wil ma Van Buren. Mrs. Geary's gown was of pink rayon crept-, Miss Van Buren’s, of yellow taf feta. , , . Robert Jonas served as best man for Mr. Van Buren; Bill Burkhart, for Mr. Kiser. Ushers f were George Geary and Jim Se ger, brothers of the brides. The mothers of the brides wore black dresses with black acces sories and corsages of red and white carnations. A reception was held at tne Legion hall immediately after the ceremony. „ ... Mr. and Mrs. Van Buren will live in O’Neill. Mr. and Mrs. Ki ser will reside at the Geary farm 5 miles south of Inman. Dorothy Burival, John Matthews Wed t In an 8 o’clock ceremony * Thursday morning, May 17, at St. Patrick’s Catholic church, Miss Dorothy Burival, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Burival, became the bride of John Matthews, son nf Leo P. Matthews. Very Rev. Timothy O’Sullivan officiated at the nuptial The bride, given in marriage by her uncle, Leo Burival, wore a travelling suit of robins egg blu with white accessories. Her bou quet was of pink feather carna tions and lilies-of-the-valley and she carried a white prayer book. Miss Madge Matthews, of Lin coln, was maid-of-honor. She wore a pink suit with white ac cessories. _ . Pvt. Leo Francis Matthews, of Ft. Eustis, Va., was bestman. A wedding breakfast was serv ed to the families at the M&M cafe immediately following the ceremony. , After a brief wedding trip Mr. and Mrs. Matthews will reside on a farm north of O’Neill. Mrs. Ted Strong Is Hostess— The Chit and Chatter extension club met last week at the home of Mrs. Ted Strong. Two lessons were given, “One-Dish Meals, bv leader A of the Elkhorn club, Mrs. Bob Cook, and “Childrens Clothing,” by Mrs. Gene Sanders. Mystery sisters’ names were drawn and some members of the club decided to attend the Holt county extension club picnic to be held at Page Tuesday, June 5. The next meeting will be held at ’ 'the home of Mrs. Howard Meyers. —By Mrs. Gene Sanders, news reporter. _ Mr. and Mrs. Joe Donohoe, of Fremont, visited, relatives here Sunday._ DANCE SUMMERLAND at Ewing Sunday, May 27 Music by DICK STOHL and the Royal Bohemians Marde Birmingham Contest Winner I iiss Marde Birmingham, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. J. Birmingham, will represent the O’Neill Lions club at the state beauty contest to be held at Kearney June 3. Miss Birmingham was chosen as the O’Neill queen at a meeting of the club Monday evening at the Town House. She was crown ed by the 1950 queen, Miss Bern adette Hynes, who took 3d place at the state contest last year. The Lions club presented Miss Birmingham with a $25 war bond. Miss Kathryn Ann Golden and Miss Barbara Muff, who tied for second place, were presented with Lions club pins. Other contestants were: Mar garet Kramer, Betty Gallagher, Dorothy Donohoe, Lorraine Si monson, Suzanne Moss, Patty Clinkenbeard, Pat Mullen, Mary Lois Cavanaugh and Alice Knep per. After the contest, Miss Hynes and John Bowen entertained the club members with several mu sical selections, including a duet Dr. Harry Gildersleeve was master of ceremonies. Mrs. Gild ersleeve directed the contest. Mrs. Leo Gokie New President— The new officers of St. Mary’s Alumni association are Mrs. Leo Gokie, president; Mrs. H. E. Coyne, vice-president; Miss Mary Faulhaber, treasurer, and Miss Mary Jurgensmeier, secretary. Members of the executive board are: Mrs. Richard Minton, Mrs. Jerome Spittler, Miss Eileen Stanton, Miss Peggy Sullivan, Quentin Cavanaugh and Bennett Hertford. Among those from out-of-town attending the banquet were: Mrs. Mary Ryan and Miss Dor othy Iler, of Sioux City; Miss Ma ry Brophy, of Grand Island; Mr. and Mrs. Joe Donohoe, of Fre mont; Rev. Cyril Werner and Miss Marilyn Fritton, of Omaha; Dr. and Mrs. L. R. See Florida, Holt Colored Slides— The Golden Rod extension club met at the home of Mrs. Phil Cohn on Wednesday evening, May 16. Roll call was answered with a spring house cleaning hint. There were 3 members absent and 2 guests were present, Airs. Lee Brady and Mrs. Aaron?vohn. Our president, Mrs. 'Ressel, and Mrs. Burch gave a report on the meeting of the home demonstra tion week held in Atkinson. The lesson on “Children’s Clo thing” was given in a skit by Mrs. A. N. Dawes and Mrs. Oli ver Ross. Mrs. Cohn showed us a few pictures of their vacation in Flor ida and Mrs. Dawes showed sev eral slides of our wild flowers of Holt county. Guild Chairmen Announced— The new guild chairmen of St. Patrick’s Altar society for the year from July, 1951, to July, 1952, have been announced. They are: Mrs. M. J. Golden, Mrs. C. V. Sullivan, Mrs. D. A Kersenbrock, Mrs. Dick Minton Mrs. Bert Winchell, Mrs. James Carney, Mrs. Frank Clements, Mrs. Norman Gonderinger, Mrs. George Head, Mrs. Gus DeBack er, Mrs. Stanley Holly, and Mrs. Charles Boyle. The chairmen were elected at the general meeting of the Altar society May 4. To Direct Bands— Municipal Band Director Ira George will begin the summer vacation months with a full work schedule. During the month of June he will not only have charge of the O’Neill Municipal band but will also take over the Valentine and Chambers bands. The first rehearsal for the O’ Neill band this summer will be held Tuesday evening, May 29. Miss Golden Feted At Shower— Miss Maxine Golden was guest of-honor at a wedding shower given Monday afternoon by the members of the Coffee club. The shower was held at the home of Mrs. F. M. Brennan and Miss Bernadette Brennan. Other guests were Mrs. Marvin Miller, Mrs. F. J. Dishner, Mrs. Frank Froelich and Miss Mary Devine Brennan. Miss Thomas to Wed — Mr. and Mrs. Edward Thomas have announced the engagement of their daughter. Miss Elzene Faye, to Clifford Roy Lundgren. The wedding will take place at First Presbyterian church in O' Neill, Saturday, June 9. Chez-a-Mari Winners— Mrs. Bud Cole was hostess to a meeting of the Chez-a-Mari club Tuesday evening at the Town House. Winners were Mrs. John MeCarville, Mrs. Gene Cantlon and Mrs. Bill Artus. Helen June Stewart a May Bride, Page PAGE — A quiet but pretty wedding was solemnized at 4:15 Sunday afternoon in the Metho did parsonage here when Miss Helen June Stewart, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Stewart, be came the bride of Leo Neubauer, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Neu bauer. The marriage lines for the dou ble-ring ceremony were read by Rev. C. E. Wilcox before an im provised altar of spring flowers banked around a picture of Christ. The bride appeared in a gown of white frosted organdy styled in a ballerina length with match ing accessories. Her corsage was of pastel spring flowers. Her bridesmaids, Misses Sherry Stew art and Janice Landreth, wore similar gowns of blue and white respectively. Their corsages were also similar to the bride’s. The bridegroom’s attendants were the brothers of thd bride, James and Richard Stewart. Immediately following the cer emony the couple departed on a wedding trip to Denver, Colo. The bride is the only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Stewart, farmers northwest of Page. She was a member of this year’s graduating class at Page high school. The bridegroom is the only son of Mr. and Mrs. William Neu bauer, also of Page. He was grad uated from Page high school last year and has been associated with his father at farming during the past year. Upon their return from Denver they will make their home on the farm from which his parents are retiring to town. There they attended the wedding of Miss Marietta Trow bridge, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elton Trowbridge, of Saratoga, Wyo., to William Dineen at 2 0 clock Saturday afternoon. The party then drove to Saratoga where they visited in the Trow bridge home, returning home Monday night. Mr. and Mrs. Anton Nissen en joyed having a family dinner at their home Sunday, May 20. Mrs. Elsie Cork returned home Monday afternoon, May 21, after spending a week with relatives at Turin and Castana, la. She spent Sunday night at the Lloyd Cork home at O’Neill. Mr. and Mrs. Lem Webb and son, of Mitchell, came Saturday to spend a few days with Mrs. Webb’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. An ton Nissen, and other relatives at Page and O’Neill. They were re turning from a vacation trip to Kentucky and other points south ana east. Mr. and Mrs. Lem Webb and son were dinner guests Sunday evening. May 20, of Mr. and Mrs. Don Nissen. Mrs. Henry Eickhoff left Tues day, May 22, for Fremont where she will visit her daughter, Mrs. Earl Anderson. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Taylor, of O’Neill, spent Sunday, May 20, at the Soren Sorensen home. Mrs. Taylor is a sister of Mrs. Sorensen. Sunday evening, May 20, din ner guests of Mrs. Evelyn Gray were: Mr. and Mrs. Keith Weyer, of Essex, la.; Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Gray, of Inman, and Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Walker and family, of Page. In celebration of their 11th wedding anniversary, Mr. and Mrs Robert Nissen entertained the following guests at a dinner at the Town House in O’Neill on Sunday evening. May 20: Mr. and Mrs. Verne Riege, of Or chard; Mr. and Mrs. Lorenze Nis sen and Mr. and Mrs. R. V. Oumly, of Page. Following the dinner they enjoyed a theater party. Mrs. Hal Farnsworth returned home Saturday from Las Vegas, Nev., and Los Angeles, Calif. Mr.’ Farnsworth, who had accompan ied her there, will return at a later date. Ewing Boy* Meet In Tokyo— EWING—It was a happy meet ing, May 9, when 2 Ewing boys, Pat Sanders and David Cloyd met aboard ship in a port at Tok yo, Japan. Both are serving in the navy. Sanders is aboard the USS Phil ippine Sea, a carrier, and Cloyd is on a landing craft. The boys took their boot training together and this is their first meeting since being separated. It was through letters from home that each boy learned the whereabouts of the other. Pat stated in a letter received by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ar thur Sanders, that there is a pos sibility that he might get leave and would be sailing for the States the 29th. Pat has been in Korean waters since October 13. David was home on furlough be fore sailing for Japan. Frontier for printing 1 Visit Stuart— Mr, and Mrs. DeWayne Phil brick and children, of O’Neill, were in Stuart Sunday, May 20, visiting friends and relatives.
